Title: Color Filter Combinations
Post by: spn_phoenix_92 on January 17, 2012, 07:55:55 PM
I just got my Lee filters today.  ;D  There are like 100+ filters in there, so I'm going to start a thread where I will post pics of many different color combinations. As soon as my Phantasm Initiate V3 Adegan Silver sabers come in thursday, I'm going to literally try every color filter in the swatch book, so if you have any requests on seeing a certain color combination, feel free to ask! I also have sabers in Fire Orange and Violet Amethyst, so I'll be experimentung with those too.

For a start, here is my Fiance's Dark Warglave in Violet Amethyst.

But she wanted it to look like Bane's Heart instead, so I popped in a filter.

I used this one, it's just basic magenta.

Starting thursday, I'll post lots of pics with the filters in the Adegan Silver sabers.

That's exactly what I was planning on trying first thing! Oranges and yellows are the best colors in lightsabers,  ;D

You are so awesome!! Point, and my thanks :)

Any color that is JUST too orange to be called yellow, is how I think I can describe my color inquiry the best....  But I am eager to see what you post SPN, even the other colors!!

How exactly are you utilizing these filters? Do you simply cut the filter in a circle and insert it down the saber?  Also I think some one else posted this but where do you get these Lee Filters?

I was messing around with a white led laptop lamp to get a hint of how each filter would look, and there is one called Chocolate that would be a great brown, I'll do that as soon as my sabers get here, any minute now, impatiently waiting. 0_o

You cut the filter in a 1" circle and place it right below the blade, here's the place to buy one, but make sure you use the coupon code SWATCH to get them for $0.01+shipping.  ;D

Well everyone, the wait is finally over, my Phantasm Initiate V3 came!!! Or, maybe I should say Phantom Initiate V3, they sent me black instead of siver.

And for Taun and Kham, here is yellow orange, I achived it by using a Burnt Yellow and Millenium Gold filters x1 each. A very great color IMO.

And for SOTJ, here is the closest I could get to brown, I used 1 Urban Sodium filter.

Plenty more are soon to come, and anyone can request any color, I will also edit my pictures to get the color to show the most realisticly I can. ;D

Here's a request by a friend of mine, its a lime green color I got by using Sally Green and Oklahoma Yellow filters, it's like the color of lemon-lime gatorade with slightly more green.

I love the Lime color.

Luckily I can achieve it with an Orange US filter, in case anyone is interested but doesn't have LEE.

God I want some.

They are both actually quite bright, now not as bright as a colored led, but almost there.

You're welcome ThreadJack  ;D

Well I was messing around with the lee filters, and I decided I wanted to try to find what filters can make all of Ultra Saber's colors, Here are pics saying which filters were used. (NOTE: pics were edited to be adjusted to what they look like in real life)

Blazing Red (Yes, you CAN get red!) Plasa Red Filter

It's the least bright of all, but it's an amazing red color, not pink or orange at all, its the exact same shade as blazing red.

Pyrestone Orange -  Madge Filter

It's not as bright as others, but probably one of my favorite shades, its like lava.

Fire Orange - AS Golden Amber Filter

It looks EXACTLY like Fire Orange, about the same brightness too. Currently using as one of my colors for the staff.

Sentinal Yellow - Burnt Yellow Filter

An amazingly bright yellow, its the other color on my staff.

Consular Green - Primary Green Filter

It's not very bright, but it's the perfect shade of green.

Sun Rider's Destiny - Mallard Green Filter

A little brighter than the green, but not much.

Arctic Blue - Jade Filter

Very bright and perfect shade, one of the best filter colors.

Guardian Blue - Bray Blue Filter

A nice deep blue, but not as bright as the real one.

Dark Violet Amethyst - Deep Purple Filter

Pretty bright dark bluish purple, almost reminds me of a black light.

Violet Amethyst - Medium Purple Filter

A very nice Mace Windu purple, and good brightness too.

Bane's Heart - Magenta Filter

A Bright Magenta color, just a tiny bit less red than the real color.

I can never get a good enough picture of it, this is amazing.

I'll give it a shot, but it won't be as bright as the regular Pyrestone. I'm currently waiting for my new set of Li-Ion batteries Deep sent me cause one of the batteries in my Shock LE Fire Orange were faulty, so I'll give it a shot when they arive.

Basic clarification: So you order these swatches and then cut out circles of the material to place on top of the led in the blade?

Title: Re: Color Filter Combinations
Post by: jccomedy on January 25, 2012, 06:53:47 PM
Yup.  That's how it works.  You should be able to cut at least 2 good circles out of each color swatch from the swatchbook.

Yep, I usually hold a US color filter disc against it and cut a octagon out around it, you can get about 3 from one swatch page

So excuse me for being such a noob, but do you take the blade off to put the filter's on? And would an old Eisenhower silver dollar be a good estimate of size I'd need to cut out? (Also I just ordered my filters. :) Can't wait for them to get here, though it'll be four or five days.)

So far it's been really difficult to achive the pyrestone orange with fire orange without it being too dim.

I would either use the Ultra Sabers color discs or trace around the bottom of the blade to get the right size, it's alot easier than I thought it would be.

Love this topic and pics.  Thank you so much for doing this.  I just received a Lee filter swatch book and am not sure on how to apply it to a saber.  Could you maybe show a quick tutorial on how you cut and installed the swatches?  Thank you once again for doing this thread.

The filter pages are big enough for trial and error 2-3 times if you happen to mess up the cutting out part, but I just used my blade base as a guideline to trace a circle around and then placed it beneath the blade in the hilt. Pretty sweet color combos and surprisingly many of them do not dim the brightness much at all!

SPN,

Great thread point for you.  Just ordered two of those swatch books to play around with later and it was only $7.36.  Love some of the colors you have posted thus far.

Just a curiosity question, how long have you run the saber with the filters in and have you found there to be any heat issue on the filter from the LED?  I saw on their sight that some were made for high heat sources like stage lighting and such, but was wondering about the films that came in the swatch.

Title: Re: Color Filter Combinations

it's the same stuff, just little pieces to check out, you can get a solid 2-3 cut out of one.  Oh and I found if you have a MHS emitter it's soo much easier to take that off instead of the blades. Less retention holes.  ;D

I've run some 2 of my sabers at the same time for about an hour when me and my cousin were messing around, and they took everything perfectly. I think it would take fire to mess those things up.

I was wondering too, can you mix match colors say if you have a main Guardian Blue, Consular Green, and Blazing Red blades? I'm thinking of getting a booklet. How do you get them for free though? (Or so I've heard). Like if I want my Guardian Blue Liberator to be purple, which filter would I use?

By no means are these a replacement for the actual LED colors. you loses ALOT of light with the darker shades. If you looking for lighter colors though, these are perfect. I have a DSI V2 in As and I found this awesome baby bluish color that is now the main color for the saber.

Try 2 Pale and Lime Green filters together from Lee. Makes a nice, bright, vibrant green. =] I let my bro have my Adegan Silver Aeon V3, put those 4 filters on, and he loves the shade of green that they make. I'll get a pic up sometime.

This is a great topic and helped me find a solution by the lacking range offered via the standard color discs I have, are the pictures taken with the standard none stunt saber blade? I ask because I'm not sure how much diffusion I'm going to get once I receive my LEE filters.
