Title: V3 Dark Prophecy + Fire Orange MLS.
Post by: Xanedan on March 29, 2012, 02:58:46 PM
So my collection continues to grow, having received a V3 Dark Prophecy stunt saber in the mail today - blazing red because I was feeling kind of sithy.  Also in the package, a fire orange LED for my Raven.

The fire orange LED is represented fairly truthfully in that picture (not quite, but close) and is...okay.  It might grow on me, like sentinel yellow did (going from "meh" to "probably my second favorite color" as soon as I was smart enough to take the ultra edge blade off it) but I'm pretty on the fence about it right now.  I don't hate it but it just can't usurp the VA LED.

The Prophecy on the other hand, oh dear - where to start?

It's almost certainly going to become my primary dueling hilt.  I have limited space here, so it'll have to wait until tonight for a good test run - but it's light weight (I'll weigh it on the scale at work later - but it seems lighter than the Initiate V2 I have) and thin grip fit well in my hands.  The point of balance is slightly further forward than I'm used to, but that also seems to work out better for me.  All and all, I was really impressed with how it felt, almost immediately but all of this is pretty subjective.

It looks pretty spectacular too, smaller than most of my other sabers - but that's not necessarily a bad thing.  It's an interesting piece; detailed and refined up top, but tactical on the bottom - I personally like it.  As a bonus it wears really comfortable on a belt thanks to it's size and weight.

The LED is indeed dimmer than the others I own, as is customary with red LEDs but it handily outshines my only other red saber (unconverted Hasbro Maul) and still more than does it's job.  It may not light up a room the same way my purple or yellow sabers do - but it stands out from a distance.

I'll update with more pictures after I get out to the park tonight - and probably a few more comments after I get to swing it with some conviction.  Alas, my dueling buddy has finally escaped England so I don't really have the opportunity for that for a bit.

Oh!  Almost forgot, a comparison between the Force FX Maul and Prophecy.  I almost feel bad for the Maul.

Awesome review. I too was tossing the idea of a Prophecy stunt. I've been using my son's until I get mine back from repairs. I have to say the hilt is EXTREMELY comfortable. More so than I thought looking at it.

The Fire Orange will grow on you lol, especially when you see it on camera during spins ! Nice Prophecy !

All of this.

It's very underrated because it isn't so blinding like other colors.

Dude, awesome collection. But watch that rack, I can see the blades warping already...

That's distortion from the cheap wide angle lens I had on the camera - but excellent tip.  I didn't really consider the idea of polycarb warping - but have since taken down the hilts that were too big to fit in the rack and display those sans blade now.

I didn't think to bring my Raven out to the park last night - but will definitely try some video with it.  I admittedly bought the FO LED because of all the negative press it generates, made me think that one day they'd probably get rid of it. >_>

---

So I got to play around with the prophecy a bit more in an open area and enjoyed it pretty thoroughly, despite getting really out of shape over the last month.  I was using my Aeon V3 LE with an initiate blade in my offhand and found the balance difference between the two to be a fairly neat trick.   The Aeon balances a few inches further down than the Prophecy with that blade set up.

The activation switch dug into my palm a bit when doing any quick changes as my grip shifted slightly - but I solved this problem by wearing some grippy shooting gloves that I had stashed in my duffle bag.  Reflecting on that, I noticed that the saber seems set up well for lefties (me being one) as otherwise a two handed grip will land your lower hand on the covertec knob.  It's light enough to wield one handed though.

Wow ! is that the PO or BR with a DVA ? Asking because that purple looks exactly like my DVA.  That's a awesome color combo !

Oh, I only have Fire Orange, not Pyrestone.  It's BR with the DVA.

Nikon D300S up on a tripod, with a remote switch.  I'd like to experiment more, but alas the community I'm currently in isn't hugely receptive to people running around with elongated glow sticks and a duffell bag full of camera equipment at 3am.
