Title: coolest saber color Post by: Darth Hett on February 11, 2011, 01:10:32 AM im planning on buying a saber, and well there are too many cool choices, personally i like SRD and consular green. what do you think.
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Stockton on February 11, 2011, 01:36:44 AM SRD!
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Darth Hett on February 11, 2011, 01:39:03 AM I've heard the srd isn't as bright as the other colors due to power distribution is this true
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: ThreadJack on February 11, 2011, 01:55:43 AM SRD is plenty bright, don't worry.
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Darth Hett on February 11, 2011, 01:58:30 AM cool thanks for the info guys
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Onli-Won Kanomi on February 11, 2011, 04:32:04 AM I really like Fire Orange and Sunriders Destiny but purple sabers have been used by some of the most famous Sith [Darth Revan, Darth Bane] and Jedi [Mace Windu, Jaina Solo] alike which makes them pretty darn cool in my opinion...and I love my Violet Amethyst Liberator.
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Ronin on February 11, 2011, 06:58:41 PM It's all about opinion, but also what ever looks best with the specific hilt you plan to match it with. Personally Consular Green is my favorite, but my next saber will be Fire Orange.
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Saberstar on February 11, 2011, 08:19:18 PM If you wanna go for green you`ll need consular green, but if youre favourite is blue I`d go for the new Arctic blue.. On film sometimes the SRD is a bit to green I think ,it depends on light and the collors around.
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Darth Hett on February 11, 2011, 08:28:06 PM is the arctic blue more of acyan or a baby blue
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: ThreadJack on February 11, 2011, 09:06:18 PM is the arctic blue more of acyan or a baby blue The arctic blue is more of an ice or sky blue. Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Saberstar on February 11, 2011, 10:25:08 PM More ice /mint blue is the arctic blue, try different videos at you tube, type Sun Riders destiny..
But again the light in the room or if youre outside reflects the collor of the lightsaber. It is vishuell effects that can be mixed with such as camera, light, etc . Just try it with flash or without flash. Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Eternus on February 12, 2011, 02:52:45 AM I have all the colors (thanks RGB) and while I stay true to my preference (Red), the Orange is the color that makes most people stop for a minute. Especially people who aren't as into the hobby as others. However there are still a LOT of people in this hobby that haven't taken the plunge and gone for an Orange. I was one of them and got one as a free saber during a special last year and I love it. Not my color of choice, but the coolest color in my opinion. Also a good color if going for a 'not light side but not dark side' theme. Can't go wrong with any color though in all honesty. Happy pickings!
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Darth Hett on February 12, 2011, 05:35:53 AM ive never actually seen an orange blade before, people have old me it looks more of a yellow.
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Deep on February 12, 2011, 06:02:26 PM I've heard the srd isn't as bright as the other colors due to power distribution is this true Not true at ALL, we're mixing two of our brightest colors. You won't be disappointed in the brightness unless you're Mr. Magoo. Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Eternus on February 12, 2011, 06:14:10 PM Even my old amber lux3 is bright. Not the brightest, it's plenty bright. And it's definately orange!
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Darth Rifter on February 12, 2011, 07:56:05 PM speaking of arctic blue, is there any chance we could see it in future RGB sabers or not.
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Aelde Renn on February 13, 2011, 03:58:57 PM I suspect not on the arctic blue being in an RGB. Reason is, I'm pretty sure they had to resistor one or both of the die used on the RGB to achieve that color. If this were an option, it would consequently change all the other colors as well.
I've been considering the Fire Orange for a long time. Then I heard they were working on a yellow, so I've been waiting to see if that materializes! Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: SILVERBACK on February 13, 2011, 04:39:56 PM would anyone have any pics of the fire orange in mkidgrade or ultraedge? i just might make that my next color.
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Aelde Renn on February 13, 2011, 04:44:09 PM Go to www.ultrasabers.com (http://www.ultrasabers.com), and look at the available colors about 1/3 of the way down the page. I believe those are shown in mid-grade.
Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Eternus on February 13, 2011, 05:57:23 PM Aelde I remember you from the other forums! I was Lord Ian over there. Nice to see more familiar people. And silverback if you're at all considering grabbing an orange saber do it! When I finally get my custom built I'm gonna use a red led but I'm gonne install QDs so I can switch to an orange when I want. It definately stands out in a crowd!

I don't know about other people, but my arctic blue saber is pretty much the same color as the blue + green from my RGB. I think Deep mentioned on another post that arctic blue is just a straight mix of blue and green without any resistors, which match my observations. Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Hobb on February 13, 2011, 09:17:23 PM So, if the Arctic Blue is a straight Blue-Green mix, and the SRD is leaning more towards the Green, then what would you get if you leaned more towards the blue?

If the arctic blue is a straight mix, then I stand corrected! By the pictures, I figured it was more towards the blue side. Title: Re: coolest saber color Post by: Onli-Won Kanomi on February 13, 2011, 11:05:16 PM If "Arctic Blue" is a straight equal unresistored mix of blue and green then it is true cyan which is blue.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyan) Note especially the "electric cyan vs process cyan" section and the right side panes with ADDITIVE secondary cyan vs SUBTRACTIVE primary cyan. Notice that the additive secondary cyan pane has RGB values of 0 red, 255 green, 255 blue. This represents a fully powered equal mix of green and blue in RGB and should [in theory] be what an unresistored RGB LED mix produces since RGB mixing is ADDITIVE not subtractive like coloured filters on a white LED are. If your monitor is calibrated correctly methinks Arctic Blue should be close to what ADDITIVE SECONDARY CYAN shows there. Of course reality isnt theory and human colour PERCEPTION varies individually ['colour blindness'] and also I've noticed that for me at least because high powered LED sabers are very bright direct EMITTED COLOUR light rather than how we perceive most object's colour indirectly from reflected light that for me sabers do seem a bit 'paler' in hue than the same colour on a PC monitor...I hypothesize this may be because they are higher powered tighly focused light sources [?] or maybe its just my own perception so your milage may vary. So personally I would expect an Arctic Blue to appear a bright pale cyan blue and look forward to getting one and finding out. |
