So far, feels pretty nice, havent really seen how bright it can be, too many windows at work Dominix v3 with lithium/puck setup, no sound, UE HG blade ill do a more thorough review later. Its a very nice slim hilt, actually a bit longer than I expected it to be but that doesnt bother me at all.....my first saber was a guardian after all. That saber looks Tasty with the Guardian pommel on it. Take it into the bathroom or a supply closet and turn off the lights. ;D Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: Veldryne on April 23, 2012, 08:18:29 PM just wait untill i get it customized
i have a machinist friend modifying the emitter and attatching a covertech wheel for me, and then im wrapping the bottom section of the hilt in leather Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: ZequarX on April 23, 2012, 08:29:07 PM JEALOUS!
Looks good man! Can't wait to see all the customizations for it! Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: CZ3RO on April 23, 2012, 08:30:51 PM Nice pommel swap!

So it's definately looking more orange than yellow. I'll see how it looks later tonight with completely charged batteries, and maybe a non ultra edge blade. If all else fails I'll toss in a yellow colour disc and see how that goes. Hopefully tonight I can start sanding it down and working on the leather grip. The machinist should be doing the mods to my emitter this weekend. And adding a cover tech wheel, and perhaps another blade retention screw. Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: Kham-Ryn Kurios on April 24, 2012, 09:12:46 PM I love the wrap job, Did a something similar to my Aeon; Just helps adds some visual weight, other than the obvious grip purposes. ;D
Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: Veldryne on April 26, 2012, 03:44:47 PM Okay so a more formal review finally after i got to use the saber last night.
Shipping: 10/10 Fast shipping as usual, only slowdowns were on the receiving side of things because the CBSA is ridiculously stupid and try to hold up things at the border a lot. LED Color: 1/10 I had asked for Sentinal Yellow, and i ended up getting something pretty bang on with fire orange, even on 100% fully charged batteries. I have a colour disc in there to make it consular green for now, and working on a couple of other things to try and get the yellow colour out of it. If i can get the colour to where i want it, this mark igoing to go up. It was part of a really big order, and right as their big sale started so i know they were busy as heck. If I end up having to buy a new led unit, rip this one out, and solder in a new one so be it. Brightness: 10/10 Holy %^$ this thing is easily 3x as bright as my GB guardian. Its pretty crazy. Add ons: 10/10 I didnt ask for any addons other than a retention screw alen key. (Can never have too many of those) Which I got, so its top marks there. Comfort: 10/10 Smooth, balanced, and very easy and natural to grip. honestly I like the feel of it better than i do my guardian. Running through basic forms last night, some freeform spinning, and a few velocities with a friend, this is going to be my go to saber now. Overall Impression: 7/10 Very comfortable saber, the choke points are great, the balance is fantastic. And the andonizing was difficult to weather, meaning it was applied very very well, and took me a couple of different grits of sandpaper to get it to where i want, and about an hours worth of work. Still dissapointed with the led colour, but that has a temporary fix in place to make the blade green instead. Even with a colour disc in it, the blade is very bright. Total: 48/60 so 80% On a side note, HUGE PROPS to the guys at US for this. I buggered up the covertech wheel on my guardian, saw the shroud was a seperate piece and was curious as to what it would look like without the shroud on it. Afterwards i couldnt get the covertech wheel back on for the life of me. I tried to bore out the wheel a little bit to give the screw some more length, and completely screwed it up. Now here is where the guys at US come through in an awesome way. In my order i just purchased another covertech wheel. No big deal its 5$. I sent a request for them to make the wheel they sent one for the guardian, citing how i screwed mine up. Not only did they send the covertech wheel i requested (with a longer retention screw!) but they also sent the standard covertech wheel you can purchase ad-hoc on their website. i think it was Emory was dealing with via email. So thanks Emory! i should note i got the ultraedge heavy grade blade, in normal light, like in the living room or at work here where i unboxed it the blade looks a very dark yellow, but the light it gives off around it, is orange, likely the source of the blade looking orange. When testing it on construction they probably saw the yellow under the flourescent lights, but as soon as you get it anywhere remotely dark where you can really see the light, its unfortunately very orange. Like i said, im looking at ways to mod it so i can get the yellow that guys like kham keep going on about. Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: Master Artorius Vidnyl on April 26, 2012, 04:21:22 PM Double post fixed.
I believe you mentioned that you've emailed Emory about it so a solution should be in the works. Keep us posted as to how the color fix attempts go! Cheers. Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: Veldryne on April 26, 2012, 04:24:25 PM I did, and thanks again for fixing the post, i hate making more work for you guys but for some reason on my work computer the option to modify just doesnt seem to exist, nor on my iphone....just on my home computer, so wierd
Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: Xanedan on April 26, 2012, 08:44:09 PM You can't modify posts after a certain amount of time on this forum (a short amount at that) but I've also noticed the button missing on my Ipad. Not sure what's up with that.
That SY is definitely the reddest I've seen. Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: billat10oclock on June 07, 2012, 02:04:47 PM So would y'all suggest this as a first saber? It looks really good and very affordable. Is it good for blade to blade dueling?
Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: Master Nero Attoru on June 07, 2012, 02:12:58 PM So would y'all suggest this as a first saber? It looks really good and very affordable. Is it good for blade to blade dueling? The Dominix line is great for its simplicity. The grooves and choke points allow for good grip, with very little to get in your way. Not to mention it's built to Ultrasabers durability standards. So in short, I'd say it's a good first saber, especially if you're into dueling. Title: Re: Dominix V3 Sentinal Yellow Post by: Veldryne on June 07, 2012, 02:42:06 PM it would make a great first blade, a friend of mine got the aeon v3, same idea just not andonized black
i do find that my dominix was more comfortable than his aeon, but thats because i used sandpaper to weather the hilt, its smoother, the grooves less sharp, and pronounced feeling on your hand while wielding it its a very stable saber however, and balances well with a heavygrade blade |
