Title: Grey Jedi Outfit Post by: Nhylus on June 24, 2012, 02:39:42 AM Hiya! So I just ordered my first Ultrasaber today (SRD Dark Prophecy w/ Silver FoC) and the idea of getting it + the fact a con is coming up next month in my area, made me really want to cosplay.
I wanted to greatly stray away from the typical "Jedi in robes" idea. Almost like a Starkiller/Cloud Strife(Final Fantasy Advent Children) kind of style. Luckily I had some things lying around my house I could already use. This vest for example, is my baby, I love this thing to death, but also realized that it would make a pretty badass costume piece. http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Apparel/Tops/GuysTops//RUDE+Black+Zip+Moto+Vest-150238.jsp (http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Apparel/Tops/GuysTops//RUDE+Black+Zip+Moto+Vest-150238.jsp) I also own a plastic Jedi communicator from when I was 7 (Episode 1 costume) And I have numerous buckles and belts I can use. I have slimming/skinny black jeans that will work well with the boots Im going to order http://www.amazon.com/Funtasma-Pleaser-Mens-Halloween-Walker-130/dp/B001AH8FBS/ref=pd_sbs_shoe_2 (http://www.amazon.com/Funtasma-Pleaser-Mens-Halloween-Walker-130/dp/B001AH8FBS/ref=pd_sbs_shoe_2) I also plan on using either a knee pad or some foam for a shoulder pauldron. And I want to add some sort of cloth coming from leather wrappings around my waist. Very similar to this http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/8/2009/12/thumb160x_headhands.jpg (http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/8/2009/12/thumb160x_headhands.jpg) I also have long enough hair to maybe even do a Padawan braid (not implying my cosplay character is a padawan). So I pretty much only have a few questions. 1. How should/would I go about getting cloth for the wrappings? 2. If I were to use foam for a pauldron, how would i get it to maintain shape. 3. Im having trouble on deciding on black or brown boots. 4. If I should add a hood to my vest. I would consider a single piece of upholstery vinyl material...cut the inside holes out and make an apron of sorts, this would give you the look without the grief...if you want the actual straps look then the same vinyl material cut into strips, glue with epoxy, compress with weight as it cures. 2. I would use this sort of process for the piece noted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb6CXGortrQ#ws (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb6CXGortrQ#ws) 3. The best priced ones? Seriously though, most likely brown...you can always add black polish to them later. 4. A hoodie would look pretty beast...maybe a wide open style rather than the tight close fitting type.
