Title: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on July 03, 2012, 04:43:27 PM Okay, after much delay, procrastination, forgetfulness, real life insanity, and other such annoyances... I now proudly present the official launch of the Saberforum Stanley Project. (Pictures coming soon! ;D )
Here's how this is gonna work. The first post of this thread will serve as the official list and order of who Stanley will be visiting. I created the little guy, so I take the first couple photos with him, then mail him on to the next guy on the list. They then repeat that process, continuing until we eventually reach the end of the list and he gets mailed back to me for safe keeping until the next time we do this. The idea is that when you get the little guy, you snap a couple pics together with him, then mail him along to the next person. If you want to take him to a local landmark, that's great, if not, then anywhere you wish is fine. Just keep it all appropriate. If you wish to take him to a convention or meet-up of some kind, that's great! The more the merrier! I only ask that you let me know so I can make note of it on the list. That way when he doesn't get mailed on for 2 or 3 weeks, we know why. On that note, if you wish to get him signed by someone famous you meet, that's fine too! Just remember, he'll be going around to many members of the forum, and since I created the guy I get to keep him, so if you DO get him signed... it's not a signature you'll be able to frame. Also, when you mail him along and take pictures with him, you can add souveniers and the like. You just have to make sure they won't tear him or the package you mail him in to shreds, and try to keep the size down. I can't ask all the members to pay $20 to mail him to the next guy because a generous member gave him his own RC Car. lol And if you should wish to alter any of his clothing, please do so by making a removable paper sleeve. IE, take a piece of paper, fold it in two, and cut out the shape of the new helmet, hoodie, boots, or whatever you want him to have. Then glue or tape that sleeve together, color it, and slide the finished item onto Stanley. That way he can always be returned to his original configuration or switched out from Rebel, to Imperial, to Clone, to Jedi, to Sith manners of dress. To cater to the preferences of the different members. ;) This brings me to what is, currently at least, the final bit of info you'll all need. How to get on the list! It's actually very simple, you just have to be able to take pics of yourself with Stanley, and then mail him to the next member on the list. To get on the list, send me a PM titled 'Saberforum Stanley' with your name and general location (country and state/province). I will then add you to the list, sorted by proximity. This way, we minimize costs for everyone, and we don't have to send him to Europe more than once or anything. :) When you receive Stan in the mail, take your pictures, then post them to this thread. When you are done, find your name on the list and then PM the next person after you requesting their specific mailing information so you can pass him along. PLEASE, everyone make sure before you give out your info that the member PMing you has posted pics with Stan before you do so. I don't want anyone giving their info away to a troll by accident. And of course, NEVER post your exact info on the forum either. Trolls are evil. :P I think that about covers it, so I'll stop typing now. lol I hope to see many, many, many pictures of Stan visiting plenty of interesting members and places soon! =/\=Moderator Manroon NOTE: Those who have already had Stanley will have their names scored out. Please find the next closest person to you who has not had him yet and send him along to them. :) THE LIST WASHINGTON:Eiyame, Seattle March 29-31 Sakura Con 2013 CALIFORNIA: RabidFuzzle, Frisco Bay Area UTAH: NEW MEXICO: Darth Khatai, Albuquerque MICHIGAN: Kaiden Shardsbane, Tuscola County MISSOURI: Sarich Belmont, Jefferson County KENTUCKY: Daniel Anteron, Fisherville GEORGIA: PENNSYLVANIA ThreadJack, North East PA Sinya, Central PA - Lancaster County VIRGINIA: Frizzenflyer, Fairfax CANADA: BenPass, Nova Scotia Batty53, Sidney BC eerockk, London Ontario EUROPE: Stephen Strange, The Hague, Netherlands Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Remy Lost on July 04, 2012, 02:55:38 AM PM sent!

I think he came yesterday, but my roommate has the key to the box, so I never get to check the mail. I'll take him to John Carter with me next friday, but he missed the Muppets.. too bad. Stay Tuned for Epic Adventures of Colossalness with our Hero, Saber Forum Stanley!!
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on July 30, 2012, 06:30:33 AM Glad he arrived safe! Sorry it took so long, but I just kept forgetting to mail him out, and then I noticed some choice photo ops around the office, and well..... ;D
My Secretary was quite taken with him. (http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h158/Manroon/20120724_182034-1.jpg) Security was glad for the extra muscle. (http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h158/Manroon/20120724_181956-1.jpg) Very glad for the extra muscle... (http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h158/Manroon/20120724_182148-1.jpg) After taking out the trash there was some socializing. (http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h158/Manroon/20120724_182230.jpg) Not sure how to classify this one... it just seemed funny at the time. (http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h158/Manroon/20120724_182127.jpg) And before he had to go, he did a little training. "Things you will see..." (http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h158/Manroon/20120724_182105-1.jpg) I have a couple more, but I'll throw them up here a little later. These were the best ones anyways. ;) Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Darth Rifter on July 30, 2012, 06:32:43 AM security cams? where do you work?
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on July 30, 2012, 06:40:52 AM For an Auction House. The real kind, not the crap you see on TV. I'm actually amazed at the quality of my phone camera here. You can really see the indian laying on the table in our gallery on the security cam, and the giant airplane, and all the trains in our lobby... dang. That's a good little phone camera. :) (I love my Droid)
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Akos_Amun on August 04, 2012, 08:38:04 AM Ok, People, I had a great time with Stanley, we talked for a while and really enjoyed ourselves. Then it was time to head out to John Carter at the Utah State Capitol. I had a pretty bad day, what with locking myself out of my house just before heading to work, so I didn't have several things, but just had to make do. Oh well, everything worked out for the best. Stanley tried to cheer me up but I just couldn't shake the gloom and it comes across in the photos you'll see. ;) Sorry some of the photos are blurry, I usually have pretty clean pics but sometimes people don't know the nuances of a particular device so... yeah, you'll have to deal with it I guess.

(http://oi47.tinypic.com/34qsbhz.jpg) (http://oi47.tinypic.com/34qsbhz.jpg) (http://oi48.tinypic.com/6qd37c.jpg) (http://oi48.tinypic.com/6qd37c.jpg) My hood blew off! (http://oi45.tinypic.com/9u8don.jpg) (http://oi45.tinypic.com/9u8don.jpg) (http://oi46.tinypic.com/2ijrwhd.jpg) (http://oi46.tinypic.com/2ijrwhd.jpg) After the movie we got home and took a couple more shots. (http://oi47.tinypic.com/3483rlt.jpg) (http://oi47.tinypic.com/3483rlt.jpg) Stanley said I HAD to smile for this one, and threatened to teach me a lesson if I didn't.. I decided to try to appease him. (http://oi46.tinypic.com/346nz4g.jpg) (http://oi46.tinypic.com/346nz4g.jpg) He wanted to test his skills, so OF COURSE I obliged. (http://oi47.tinypic.com/2lkcqde.jpg) (http://oi47.tinypic.com/2lkcqde.jpg) (http://oi50.tinypic.com/ir6lbs.jpg) (http://oi50.tinypic.com/ir6lbs.jpg) Well, I asked if he had enjoyed himself and he said that he had quite thoroughly enjoyed my company and the movie and said he wouldn't mind visiting Utah again. We just chilled a bit while I uploaded the pics and talked. What a great guy, I hope you get to meet him. He saw my shirt and said he LOVED the Princess Bride, but really, who doesn't, so he got a quick shot with me and my shirt, but he edited me out of it! what the heck man?! oh well, it made him happy so you know, whatever. (http://oi47.tinypic.com/2db3436.jpg) (http://oi47.tinypic.com/2db3436.jpg) He'll be packing soon, getting ready to head out to Atlanta, so we better get some sleep. Looking forward to seeing all your adventures Stanley, you take care of yourself and May The Force Be With You. Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on August 05, 2012, 12:01:28 AM Sweet! Glad you guys have been having fun. Tell the little guy HI for me. ;D

Stanley, I'm jealous, I wish I got to hang out with Remy! Those are some sweet pics Remy, looks like you had a blast! Some really cool characters too! I like the Nihilus pic. looks like there were a few Ultrasabers in the crowd! I see a raven and a couple Dominixes and Aeons...
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on September 06, 2012, 05:04:53 PM Mace there has his pouch upside down... lol And that's the same guy who wanted me to be Qui-Gon for that group! He was cool. One of the guys from saber chats, wasn't he?
Remy, those pics are awesome! SO many good costumes, I wish I'd been there. Kudos on the epic pictures man, looks like Stan was enjoying himself. Hanging with Leia, representing the lightside to those Sith Cheerleaders.... guess the guy's more of a ladies man than he let on while he was here. :D Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Sandtracker on September 06, 2012, 10:20:48 PM I should say that my dad and I ran into Remy at CVI. Sadly, he didn't have Stanley with him at that time so we didn't get a picture together. But it was really cool meeting a forum member in real life.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on September 06, 2012, 10:46:19 PM Sweet! I remember palling around with Shyguy at Wondercon. It's loads of fun to actually meet up with people from the forum, and I loved hanging with Spidey and MJ when we ran into them. Forum meet ups are probably one of the best parts of cons. :)
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: ThreadJack on September 06, 2012, 11:04:05 PM So who gets Stanley next?
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on September 06, 2012, 11:53:16 PM Whoever is next closest geographically to Remy.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Master Bluespike74 on September 10, 2012, 06:11:02 AM I guess that would be me.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on September 10, 2012, 04:41:57 PM How fitting that Stan wields a BLUE Bellicose..... ::)
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Remy Lost on September 11, 2012, 01:47:31 AM There are more pictures coming but my internet has been sucking lately. I have to get them through dropbox and then sort them so I can get them posted.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on September 11, 2012, 01:55:56 AM No worries. We look forward to seeing them. :)
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Sinya on October 04, 2012, 03:36:46 AM Any way to still get in on this??
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on October 04, 2012, 04:17:32 AM Shoot me a PM with your general location and I'll add you to the list. :)
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Darth Vrenen on October 06, 2012, 01:03:57 PM This is pretty awesome! And the pictures are equally amazing! Is there a story behind how this started? I'm sure it would be interesting.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on October 06, 2012, 10:44:16 PM I suppose there is a little story to it, but I only recall the basics off hand. Someplace or other there's actually a second thread about this, where I was checking interest in the idea. That would show a bit more of the story as well if you can scrounge it up in a search.
Basically, I do some drawing and sketching from time to time as a hobby sort of thing. :) The idea for Stan here hit me after Wondercon, back in March of this year. I went to the con, largely for the reason that US had a booth and they are NEVER at cons in So Cal. I just couldn't pass it up. lol Welllll..... I found out quickly enough that the other semi-local forumites were mostly planning to be there as well. Shyguy, Kham, and Waxman I think was the other member. Waxman was there the day before I was, so I didn't meet up with him, but I spent something like half of the day paling around with Shy (which was a BLAST! his TOR Sith costume is EPIC! and he has some really cool friends), and we did find and hang out with Kham for a few minutes because there was no WAY I was going to Wondercon without chilling with Spidey. Anyways, after the con, there was a lot of talk about our little meet up, and about how much all of us forum members wished we could do a real large scale forum meet up at a big con. Of course, most of us are fairly broke when cons roll around, and even if we aren't, we usually can't get half way across the country to get to one, stay there for several days, buy tickets, and afford food and con swag all together. Something or other reminded me of Flat Stanley, this little paper man that my old Bio Teacher's Niece had done as a class project years ago and sent around to everyone she knew, and everyone they knew. Then all those people took a couple pics with him, and sent him back. The class made a big map and taped all the photos together and put them on the wall at the end of the project to show where Flat Stanley had traveled. Remembering this, I thought 'Hey, we can't meet up... why don't we mail a paper Jedi around to all the members? We all post tons of pics of ourselves with our sabers anyways...' I did an interest thread and got LOADS of positive feedback on the idea, so I dug around until my colored pencils were reunited, found my sketch pad, some scissors and tape, and a week or two later, Saberforum Stanley was completed. Now he travels the globe in search of formidable sparring partners, wearing darkly colored Jedi Robes, carrying two sabers, and proudly donning his Nova Squadron Flight Helmet wherever he travels in the galaxy. 8) He's even been to a Con! That totally blows my mind. I have to wonder if one day we'll get some new forum member tripping over this thread and commenting, 'I think I saw that guy back at such and such convention....' lol Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Master Bluespike74 on October 29, 2012, 04:33:13 PM Ok. Stanley arrived at my house from Remy on 9/17/12. This was during a new year celebration so I was planning to do the pics starting on 9/24/12. Unfortunately, I was facing a lay off, starting a new part time job that quickly turned into a full time job that kept me working two places (sometimes up to 20 hours in a day) and finally got that sorted out two weeks ago. My wife had her testing date for her boards moved up one month so Stanley and I watched Star Wars movies and played with my daughter and hung out at the dojo until Psydoc could get her camera. Pics were scheduled for Wednesday October 24th only to find out that all of the batteries we brought along were dead. This sucked because we had some plans to have Stanley hanging out in a Federal Court House and get some exclusive access pics.
Yesterday, Stanley finally got some long overdue pics with me at some cool places around Georgetown, Kentucky. I'll be loading them later today but I didn't want Manny to think that I had lost him or that my cat had eaten him. Stanley is ready for another road trip. I just need to know where to send him next. Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on October 29, 2012, 04:45:27 PM WHEW! Glad the little guy's okay! I was starting to get worried about him. lol As for who gets him next.... *runs off to check list* Looks like the next guy on the list is your fellow Kentucky Neighbor: Daniel Anteron! So just shoot him a PM to get his specific mailing info and you can send him right along. :)
BTW, looking forward to seeing new pics of Stan! Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Master Bluespike74 on October 29, 2012, 04:52:57 PM Stanley gets a quick history lesson:
(http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h440/bluespike74/175.jpg) Stanley and I hanging outside the dojo. I couldn't obtain permission for filming inside. Sorry but this was the best I could do: (http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h440/bluespike74/171.jpg) (http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h440/bluespike74/168.jpg) During the World Equestrian Games in 2010, over 100 of these horse was created by artists and placed at different locations. This one was placed outside the hospital where I work. Stanley is standing above the building. I am 5'11" tall to give a reference for how tall this statue is. (http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h440/bluespike74/165.jpg) (http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h440/bluespike74/163.jpg) Stanley got to see a unique style of farm close to where I live. It was created after a very famous horse won many races and then was quickly put down when he retired because the owners didn't want to be bothered with caring for him. It is called Old Friends Farm. (http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h440/bluespike74/159.jpg) (http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h440/bluespike74/157.jpg) (http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h440/bluespike74/155.jpg) Sorry that I kept him idle for so long but he was well taken care of while he was here. Thanks for the opportunity to give everyone a glimpse into my town. Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Frizzenflyer on December 14, 2012, 03:43:58 AM and when will he get to me...I have been waiting quite impatiently.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Manroon on December 14, 2012, 07:10:04 PM I'm not certain, it would be whoever is closest to his current location, which I think is a tie between you and Sarich Belmont. If I'm not mistaken. But you're in opposite directions from each other. Considering we have more people on the east coast waiting for him than in the Mid West, I'm guessing we'd keep more along the Coastal regions at this point.
BTW, Dan.... any pics of the guy yet? :D Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: RevanChrist on December 18, 2012, 09:39:23 PM I thinkin,,Stanley could use a visit to the worlds largest rodeo in Houston,, dud ewould look sweet with 10 gallon on his head.

Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Vixus PriX on March 11, 2014, 03:32:10 PM I'm making the new Flat Stanley... this time it will be Flat George... yes, George Lucas.
This way, Mr. Lucas can witness what he has inspired for the future of our generation of geekdom first-hand. Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Saberforum Stanley Thread Post by: Dauntless Seven on August 02, 2014, 06:24:32 AM This is so funny! I would not want to be the person who has dear Stanley when the fold at his knees gives out. No coffee drinking around our celebrity Stan the man and although he is looking a tad thin, our big boy is not a placemat or a napkin. Since you have someone in Sidney BC for Stanley to grace with his awesome presence, I'll pass unless he insists upon going to the Victoria museum to see our full sized wooly mammoth. ;D
