Title: Any tips on a Grey Jedi costume?
Post by: Rassilon on July 22, 2012, 04:26:42 PM
Hello All. I'm looking into starting a Grey Jedi costume. The trik is, i have to start from scratch, and I am on a tight college-student budget. So! i would like to see if any of you guys had ideas on the best way to go about this. As of right now, I'm thinking go with a Black or Dark Grey Karate Gi as a base. And then black or grey outer tunic  and some sort of Cloak. thoughts?

Check out group costuming group called The Dark Empire. Uhm... URL is http://www.thedarkempire.org/ (http://www.thedarkempire.org/)

You'll need to register an account on their forums, but you can visit the WIP Costuming Gallery where members post their costumes as a work in progress. Lots of Sith and Grey Jedi costumes in there.

For colors, you will want to stay away from natural earth colors, like browns, tans, and greens. The base colors will most likely be black and grey, with some other darker colors for emphasis, like purple or blue.

Karate gi uniforms are excellent! As a matter of fact, the entire lower half of my costume is based off of martial arts. I have plain black karate pants and my shoes are tabi boots. If you can manage to shell out some cash, Mystik Merchants has excellent robes and cloaks for sale, some on the more expensive side though. Twin Roses Designs has tunics, tabards, and obi for sale and they can do things custom for you. I got my base outfit from them, and my cloak from Mystik and I could not be happier.

Good luck in your costuming endeavors! Please keep us updated on your progress. I personally love seeing the creativity of our members.

Wow. Thanks. that's a great resource. They pretty much helped me solve my footwear crisisin a way i never thought of. Maybe I will end up going with different forms of Browns for the time being (not quite Grey, more of a darker Consular), because a lot of what I already own is brown. When i can, I will start aquiring more blacks and greys. Will keep updated When I can!

Master Artorius and I both use black tunics under charcoal robes for our Grey Jedi ensembles.  My tunic is made by Twin Roses, as is my grey cloak.  He has a black karate uniform and a grey Twin Roses robe over top.

If you wanna take a look at ours, here is a picture thread just to give you an idea:

Wow those look great. Okay, so buy a Black Gi, and make some Grey Tabbards/Obi,  and black shoes footwrapped in Grey fabric to the knee. That's what I'm thinking so far...

This Starkiller outfit screams grey Jedi at me.
