Title: Custom DL-44 'Manroon Special' (upgraded) Post by: Manroon on August 17, 2012, 06:50:00 AM Okay, someone who's name I unfortunately forgot requested pics of my DL-44 build earlier. There are older pics buried deep in the forum someplace from a couple seasons ago, but the thing has undergone repairs a couple times since then, and a recent paint job has given her a much needed facelift and final touch. She is now and forever, the 'Manroon Special' Custom DL-44.
BUILD DETAILS: She's based on a full metal airsoft mauser spring pistol that I gutted and converted to a DL-44 Blast Tech Heavy Blaster Pistol. The flash suppressor came from an old 70s or 80s toy, specifically either a GI Joe Base (for small figs) or a Star Wars Micro set (the old die cast figs that were discontinued before ROTJ came out), so that's one of the things that makes this pistol stand out in a crowd. She also has her scope mounted on the left, because I'm right handed and that seemed more natural to me. To be honest though, I like to shoot from the hip and front sight my shots anyways. lol The scope and selector switch are actually salvaged from the mauser's internals, which makes them unique as well since most people use the ESB or ROTJ style parts for these conversions. That's all well and good if you want a 'standard' DL, but I wanted a custom and I was working on a budget, so this is what I did and I love it. :) The funny wire and socket thing beneath the front end of the scope is actually something I salvaged from the headset in an old Jet Helmet I have. It just sort of worked, so on it went. ;) The pistons are there as they really are a non-negotiable standard part for any DL. I went with copper on them because I had it and I liked the look when I tested it. Gave it flare. I elected to forgo the front vents though, as I just didn't want to spend the money on one tiny part. I may add them later, or come up with a replacement option for them elsewhere on the mag-well. As for the paint job.... it speaks for itself. Like my unofficial variant of the Nova Crest? 8) Title: Re: Custom DL-44 'Manroon Special' (upgraded) Post by: Luna on August 17, 2012, 06:55:09 AM That's ridiculously awesome! The crest is cool, adds some completely Rebel-like style to it. All my points are belong to you, sir.
Quick question - what is on the TV in the background of the first pic? :D Title: Re: Custom DL-44 'Manroon Special' (upgraded) Post by: Manroon on August 17, 2012, 07:09:41 AM Captain Gloval, of the SDF-1. It's Robotech, Macross Saga. Same thing that's on the TV in all the other pics. lol ;D
And thanks! I'm glad you like it. That crest is sort of my favorite part now, along with the Flash Suppressor. I think the black flash suppressor is just totally BA since nearly all of them out there seem to be silver except the ANH Solos. :) Title: Re: Custom DL-44 'Manroon Special' (upgraded) Post by: Daniel Anteron on August 22, 2012, 05:29:01 AM Very cool man. I need to make a DL-44 myself. :)
Title: Re: Custom DL-44 'Manroon Special' (upgraded) Post by: Manroon on August 22, 2012, 06:04:20 AM You should. They're loads of fun, and very easy. Especially if you fake or find some of the parts instead of going to blastech. My personal favorite is to use antique hand drill heads for flash suppressors. They look almost dead on for the ESB ROTJ ones.
Title: Re: Custom DL-44 'Manroon Special' (upgraded) Post by: Kham-Ryn Kurios on August 22, 2012, 04:00:52 PM I love it, the whole thing; I like that the crest is offset and that it looks like star wars and hylian all in one.
Point to you. :) Title: Re: Custom DL-44 'Manroon Special' (upgraded) Post by: Master Nero Attoru on August 22, 2012, 06:25:07 PM Oh man that thing is awesome. I especially like how it's not just like every other DL-44 out there... it has the unique parts that make it yours (not to mention the Nova crest!). Makes me wanna snag an airsoft mauser!

Actually, your flash suppressor was part of the scope assembly on the G1 Megatron Transformers figure. It also became the large cannon that was mounted to his arm... AWESOME use of the parts! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Megatron-g1toy.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Megatron-g1toy.jpg) Title: Re: Custom DL-44 'Manroon Special' (upgraded) Post by: Manroon on December 19, 2012, 01:42:49 AM HAH! That is AWESOME! I never even would have guessed! There were no other Transformers parts or figures or anything in the box I got that out of at the time, but it seems now there must have been at one point. Too cool of a coincidence. You get your first lightside point for IDing the single unknown part on my favorite blaster. :) Many thanks man! ;D
