Title: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Kaiden Shardsbane on March 10, 2011, 10:36:20 PM Well, just like the title says, I've ruined another perfectly good Dominix. Since I completed the Wired Dominix I've had nothing much to do, so I decided for some stupid reason to mod my red saber. And so, after much Epoxy and trimming of pieces, I wound up with the following tire-tread-patterned saber. What do y'all think?
Introducing the Malignant: The Epoxy discolored it a bit, so my Dominix is no longer shiny black. (http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy100/Creature_of_Antioch/Lightsabers/DSCN4628.jpg?t=1299796120) I managed to leave the retention screw and the other hole open, so I can still take the blade out. Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Kaiden Shardsbane on March 11, 2011, 08:45:50 PM Yeah. It's so grippy that the first time I picked it up it took me at least five minutes to detach my hand from the hilt. Then I decided to let it dry some more.
My biggest complaint with it now is that the hilt is more rubber than metal, and sometimes the O-rings roll downward when I'm twirling. Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: sjorsjo91 on March 17, 2011, 11:27:26 AM Wow just wow
I think it looks amazing buddy. I really dig the looks of this saber. Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Smokiewan on March 17, 2011, 07:44:19 PM Ooh! Smokie likes!
That's an awesome looking conversion my man. Very dark looking. It makes me think Ultrasabers should have a mat black option available on their dark sabers. Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Kaiden Shardsbane on March 17, 2011, 09:11:56 PM Unfortunately, the glue is starting to come off after a few duels, resulting in the curved rubber pieces uncurling back to their original straight position. I'm thinking about taking them off and reapplying them straight, like around the activator.
Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Jedidad on March 26, 2011, 12:44:45 AM You might try "Bardge Contact Cement" Boot makers and leather workers use it.
Its Great stuff. http://www.jlsmithco.com/OTHER_2/BARGE-CONTACT-CEMENT-TUBE-3-4-OZ-TUBE (http://www.jlsmithco.com/OTHER_2/BARGE-CONTACT-CEMENT-TUBE-3-4-OZ-TUBE) Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Kaiden Shardsbane on March 26, 2011, 02:56:32 AM Boot makers, you say? I'll have to look into that.
Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Kaiden Shardsbane on April 22, 2011, 02:49:07 AM Well, I'm finally done modifying my Dominix, so I took a few pics to share with you guys. The silver you see is where I sanded through the black finish. I also added a few strips of silver metal underneath the O-rings below the activator, and straightened the strips of rubber on the emitter.
I present the Malignant. Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: navajas on April 22, 2011, 03:16:07 PM Ha. I want to admit something. When you first posted this thing way back when, I clicked on it, saw the pic and instantly though, "Wo. Damn. That's pretty hot!" And then... oh, 10 seconds later, "Nope. Yep. He's right. That looks weird." :)
Good job on your new version. Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Kaiden Shardsbane on April 22, 2011, 04:05:52 PM Thanks guys! And yeah Navajas, that's about what went through my head as I was finishing the first version.
Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Darth Rayne on July 04, 2011, 07:50:22 PM The first one reminded me of a thread you would skrew into something. Maybe a saber made of droid or machine parts from a junkyard. Original very original
The second is very very nice. Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: AerykGunn on July 05, 2011, 01:51:41 AM I honestly like it a LOT more then the wired one. :)
Title: Re: Another Dominix ruined Post by: Kaiden Shardsbane on July 05, 2011, 04:32:49 AM Eh. The wired one is different. I think the wire handles a bit better, and is less problematic than the rubber, but to each his own. This one's still really cool.
