Title: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on August 19, 2012, 08:13:25 AM (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/lexiongal580/miss/day1_2_in_progesscopy.jpg) A bit about the character... (Ashara is my second Star Wars OC) Name: Ashara (meaning wish) Fi Gender: Female Race: Hapan Appearance: Hair Color/length: Brown, shoulder(ish) - White, lower back (later in life) Eye Color: Green Height: 5.5” Build: Small figure Skin Tone: Light tan Biography: Ashara grew up for a short time in her home star cluster, till she showed signs of being force sensitive. Which was a surprise because nether of her parents, or close relations have ever had any force sensitivity. Niece to the Queen Mother, she was raised around the court but was always playing “warrior” with other children her age. When her parents saw the signs of her being force sensitive they asked the Queen Mother to contact the Jedi Council. Even though they didn’t want to let their only child nor less a Hapan girl out of the cluster, they knew that, that was the right life for her. She was always their little warrior girl. If it wasn’t for her force sensitivity she might have ended up going into the Hapan military. The Queen Mother didn’t want to make contact with the outside world, she drug her feet till Ashara’s mother made her do it. By using the line “You want what is best for you right? If so contact them. That is where she needs to be.” In the end the Jedi Council was contacted and arrangements made for a Jedi to come with a special clearance code to come and retrieve Ashara. But due to the Hapan Clusters rep of being a end game for anyone stupid enough to go near it, it was no wonder that the Jedi Council had a hard time finding a female Jedi willing to risk her life to retrieve Ashara. Jedi Master: Linara Sintari (My main Twi'lek OC) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So I'll explain a bit how this all came about first. Me and my husband where playing Star Wars the Old Republic. And I have kinda always wanted to do a Star Wars costume. So we started brain storming. Anyway I started drawing and after a few days came up with the design that you are now looking at the in progress shoots of. This costume is taking so long because everything is professionally finished. I look to enter at lest this piece in the 2013 Sakura Con Costume Contest, Seattle WA Time So Far: 15 hours But I am also designing and making two other costumes this year for Star Wars. One is for my husband; the other is for my friend Ryan. Ashara Fi (C) Me Costume Design (C) Me ((Meaning don't steal what isn't yours)) Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Master Rel on August 19, 2012, 10:50:23 PM Point for a great outfit!
Yes, I stole one of my dad's old shirts (since right now I'm living at home part time) and put it on. Then while watching a movie had my mom duck tape me into it. It was kinda a bitch to cut of; my mom ended up poking me with the SHARP sewing shears. But I made that about two years ago. And its a cheep way to get a dressmakers dummy, and so far all the costumes I have made on it have turned out pretty good and have needed very little tailoring. Hey hey this is what I use to cut mine off (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31JMSV5KZ1L.jpg) It cuts with a small amount of pressure and the sharp edge is inside the arc...never a single nick. You hold the blade at a 45* and it just glides down like a seam ripper. :D Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on August 20, 2012, 07:09:29 AM Yeah, well I plan on buying a dressmakers dummy soon so the purple...erm thing will be tossed. Or at lest de-stuffed and put away somewhere.
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on August 20, 2012, 07:44:33 AM I got my tunic mostly done today. I need to hem the one sleeve I didn't get done today, and need to hem the bottom hem. After pressing the tunic it will be done.
Also took apart my very first sewing project today. My set of black Jedi robes I made 5 years or so ago. I'm going to resew them so they will fit me properly. Though when I took the fabric out of the dryer I had found that I forgot one hem. SO, I have to rip that out tomorrow and rewash that piece. Unless I can find that lint roller... Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Zephon on August 21, 2012, 04:10:59 AM Ah Eiyame, I saw this from you a few days ago on Deviantart. I should of guessed that if you knew about US, that you'd probably post here as well. Still cant wait to see the finished product.

Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on September 06, 2012, 04:37:31 AM Alright so had to fix my skirt. And now where my skirt sits on me, my old belt doesn't sit right. So had to replace it. Thus the new belt.

Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on September 08, 2012, 12:57:48 AM Thanks
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Manroon on September 08, 2012, 01:15:40 AM I like the new belt. Has an interesting look to it. :)
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on September 08, 2012, 03:51:01 AM Thanks, I picked it because it was something different. Though I need to go to the army supply store and get more pouches for my belt. Right now I just have one really big one that doesn't really fit that well. Also I need to remember I am going to have a second lightsaber on the belt as well.
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Manroon on September 08, 2012, 04:44:58 AM Old Army gear is great for Jedi belts. I run some WWI French pouches, the leather tool case for a BAR, and an old knife pouch on my rig. They're a little big, but the real aged leather looks wonderful. Surprisingly cheap too!
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on September 08, 2012, 05:05:24 AM Cheep and they look good, honestly that's all I care about in the end. lol After all my next lightsaber is going to cost more than my whole pirate cosplay put together.
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Manroon on September 08, 2012, 06:00:28 PM I feel you. My first saber cost about as much as the whole rest of my Jedi outfit at the time. lol And it wasn't a bad outfit either, though I've improved it alot over the years.
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on September 09, 2012, 06:24:56 AM My costume being made by my own hand, only cost me about $70 in mats.
The robe had made five years or so ago, but I took apart washed all the panels really good and put them back together the right way with finishing the edges. And also fixed the hood, it was pointy. x.x Right now I'm taking the lettering and logos off some under amour gloves I had so I can use them for dueling (sick of getting my figures hit) and for my costume. Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Master Rel on September 09, 2012, 03:06:15 PM I should do a tutorial on making small leather pouches.
It is fairly easy and relatively cheap. Even quicker and less expensive if they are props rather than actual pouches. A decent upholstery leather from the fabric store, $10-$20 a yard...one yard will make 10-20 pouches. Check the remnants section. Use small containers... deodorant tubes (http://www.sks-bottle.com/images/0805-06.jpg) overnight travel cases (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bSSG5HtkRek/Sp6t5msQ-dI/AAAAAAAAACA/H2HwFWP20PQ/s400/radius2.jpg) ...etc. with most of these being free from your common use items or $1 from the local Mart-Wal or Dollar store. Spray adhesive Cut to fit/wrap Apply glue to material and press on In the end these cases should run about $3 each. :D Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on September 09, 2012, 07:59:49 PM That's really cool. I might play around with that. I know some people make them out of wood. But they just aren't big enough to even put a cell phone in. Though my deodorant comes in a really small tube so I would have to take my husbands. lol
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Veldryne on September 10, 2012, 12:43:35 PM JR thats actually a really wicked idea, point for suggesting it, im going to pass that on to my group
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Master Rel on September 10, 2012, 02:16:37 PM JR thats actually a really wicked idea, point for suggesting it, I'm going to pass that on to my group I have used it to make purses, small chests, and even "wood" props for opera and theater stages. Best thing is that you can make something in minutes...so it is a great emergency plan...take your time and it becomes useful and inexpensive :) Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on September 10, 2012, 10:22:57 PM If I had to count the last minute... "OMG we don't have this prop! And its opening night and the play has started!"...realizations I would be rich. I have had to pull at lest 10 props out of my ass in about 10 minutes.
Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: CZ3RO on September 15, 2012, 04:18:58 AM Another good place to find pouches is to dig through the bags/purses bin at a thrift store - if you can find something plain, remove the straps/handles and cut some vertical slices in the back to create belt loops.
Bang - instant genuine leather pouch. :) Title: Re: Ashara Fi Costume Post by: Eiyame on September 15, 2012, 04:38:01 AM I found a few pouch patterns at my local store might buy them and play with those if I can make them I will be able to sell them with costumes.
