Title: Liberator v3 - Bane's Heart
Post by: Eiyame on August 23, 2012, 09:52:36 AM
So my first lightsaber showed up early today. UPS said between 12-4pm it showed up at 11:30am lol

I don't know why people say their box comes looking like it went through WWII mine was almost perfect.

Bubbles!

The Liberator unwrapped; damn that's a lot of bubble wrap, for one saber. But hey a Bantha could sit on the box and it wouldn't break the saber.

Covertec clip Close up; its a lot better than I thought, but when that is on my belt I can jump around like monkey and my saber isn't going anywhere unless my belt does.

Standard Battery Set-Up; 4 AAA

Sorry if the images are kinda sub par but, I left my camera at my Grandma's, so I ended up having to use my cell phone. Then my SD reader for my Mirco SD cards gave out tonight after the store was closed so I had to txt/email them to myself, and my phone made them smaller so once really clear images became blurry.

I'm going to start custom painting tomorrow...that's IF I can find the paint I need.

Finished customizing my hilt for the most part.

~Shined it to chrome finish (How to thread: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=8675.msg127396#msg127396 (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=8675.msg127396#msg127396))
~Painted purple into the groves for extra detail
~Added goddess charm that is removable (just for show when hilt is on my belt, need to take it off when dueling)

Sorry about the yellow lighting, I'll get better images in the next few days

Nice saber. All the color choices matches really good. How did you go about painting the grooves though?

Awesome blade pic!  At first glance it just looks red, but I've seen enough lightsaber pics to know how they look on film; that Bane's Heart is so unique.  :)

This is super Pretty! goes with your outfit nicely too btw. I need to get me some of that polish stuff, I want all my sabers to be super shiny!

Title: Re: Liberator v3 - Bane's Heart
Post by: Eiyame on August 25, 2012, 02:25:31 AM
@ Zren Tobas: Thanks, I just used Testor Co. Model Master Acryl Color Purple Pearl; and  a number 0 paint brush. I would put a layer of paint on, and let it dry and then repeat.

@ CZ#RO: I think I might through a purple filter over it to make it more the color I was thinking it was.

@ bluespike74: Thanks, it is a simple design. And I didn't do much to it I just shined it, and painted the groves. Well and added my removable charm at the end. I might put a wrap on it, though I am not sure yet.

@Akos_Amun: Thanks I rather like my saber tool. And I designed my outfit to go with the saber not the saber to go with the outfit. Remember you are going to have to re polish them once it a while. But one nice thing about polishing that I have found is that the finger prints are less obvious.

So...I discovered this morning that my Bane's Heart is really PO.

Oops, someone made a booboo along the line. But that happens sometimes when ordering forum colors. But I have emailed Emory so we can get it fixed. Not a big deal. :)

Title: Re: Liberator v3 - Bane's Heart
Post by: Akos_Amun on August 27, 2012, 01:58:43 AM
I think your PO is much darker than mine, I like it. Too bad it isn't what you wanted..

Title: Re: Liberator v3 - Bane's Heart
Post by: Eiyame on August 27, 2012, 02:55:11 AM
It is to bad becuase I like the color; just not in this hilt or for this costume I'm doing. So I'm just waiting for an email from US to see what they say.

What, the above photos are all Pyrestone Orange?  Shows what I know - they look pretty magenta-ey to me.

How did you discover this?

Interesting mixup, I'm sure they'll get you straightened out quickly.  They could probably send you a new LED module and you could install it yourself, if you possess electronics skills like that.

Good pics though, regardless.

Title: Re: Liberator v3 - Bane's Heart
Post by: Eiyame on August 27, 2012, 09:29:13 PM
@Master Nero:

Yeah, I'm not really complaining about the color, I like it;  just not for this saber for this character.

But I rather send it to them and have them do it. I'm good with that stuff BUT I don't want to mess around with this saber. I need it in working order. And besides I don't have a QD so it makes it that much harder.

@CZSRO:

They look magentay because I took them in daylight at an odd angle.

I discovered this after I had a dream about it and woke up and found after comparing my images and saber to those here on the forum then asking my color blind dad what color it was that I had PO.

BTW

HAHA, I'm a retard. I didn't change the batteries SOOO...funny story.

It's Bane's Heart. I just didn't change the batteries so it turned PO due to lack of juice.

^^;

I'm smart....

Yeah going to buy rechargeable batteries OR just send my saber back for a battery upgrade.

I'm trying some Eneloop rechargeable batteries that I got from Amazon. We'll see how it goes, the colors look good, so I just need to find out their run time/charge time. If you want to wait a bit I can do a comparison of the Li-Ions and the rechargeables to give you some more info.

Right off the bat we can say what we know:
Li-Ions w/resistor=$25 for a normal order (don't know what it is for upgrade, we'll assume a tad more... 35?) plus around $13 shipping.
Li-Ions w/buck puck=$30 for normal order (ditto ^^^ so 40?) plus ~ $13 shipping
Sanyo Eneloop pack and charger=$33 plus shipping (I have prime so that was free...) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VLAEPQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VLAEPQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01))
Sanyo Eneloop 8 pack AAA=$16.35 plus shipping (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ILYG4M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ILYG4M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00))
Or just the charger=$11.40 plus shipping (http://www.amazon.com/SANYO-4-Position-Rechargeable-Battery-Charger/dp/B005ILYG5Q/ref=pd_sim_e_48 (http://www.amazon.com/SANYO-4-Position-Rechargeable-Battery-Charger/dp/B005ILYG5Q/ref=pd_sim_e_48))

if you go with just the last two thats $27.75 for 8 batteries and the charger. The trustfires will only give you two cells but you could buy two more from US, I just like always having spare batteries ready to go. I have 4 hilts with the Li-Ion trustfires and 3 with AAAs and I hated them cuz I didn't have any good rechargeables, but these eneloops have started off well so far.

I can keep you posted on run times of each if you'd like so you can benefit from someone else's time and money ;)

That would be very helpful thank you. ^^

I just emailed Emory (wont get a reply till late next week since they are at DragonCon) asking about what the Li-Ions w/buck puck set up is with an install on my Libby. So when I get an answer I'll post it up here.

But for the record I HATE AAA batteries nothing in the house but my lightsaber runs on AAA so we never have them in the refrigerator out in the garage where we stock pile batteries and soda. LOL

If they're rechargeable then they're probably NiMH ones, which means you're running on a lower voltage than the standard alkalines, hence the color difference.  Very nice!

I'm glad you did, I got really busy this week, sorry. The look is fantastic!

I noticed no real color difference with my eneloop rechargeables.. It's weird because I thought I would see a change, and they are just as bright as when I used the AAA li-ion energizers. And the run time is pretty impressive, I have played with a few friends for about 20min sessions 3 times with no noticeable dimming at all. I'm pretty impressed.

@bluespike74: I love my Bane's Heart (now that stupid me got fresh batteries) It's not so pink that a gamer girl like me can't stand it, but its pink enough that's its very bright and pretty. I have to remember not to look at the blade when I turn it on or I get spots. If you do order Bane's Heart remember it is a forum color so yours might not come out the same shade. Just don't do like me and not replace the batteries when you get it and then freak Emory out by emailing him saying its the wrong color even though its not. lol ^^;

@Master Nero: They are NiMH, but I love the color difference it looks so much better, lest to me. And they last so much longer too. My alkalines didn't even make it through the costume photoshot. Where I have been playing with my saber for a few days and it looks the same. Granted I haven't used it for anymore than 20mins at a time.

@CZ3RO: Thanks, I really like this color. I was worried when I ordered it. First saber, and ordering a forum color on top of that. BUT, I'm very happy with it.

@Moderator Manroon: Thanks, if you look really close at the paint job when the saber is in your hand its not 100% perfect. I might stripe it off and redo it, if it bugs me to much. But unless you know where to look you can't tell. (I'm a bit of a perfectionist)

@Akos_Amun: No worries. Rechargeables where on sale payed only about $20 for the charger, 2 AA's and 6 AAA's. I saw a color difference when I changed over to my NiHM batteries and they last a really long time. Though I think from now on I am ordering the $30 battery set up from US.

I know what you mean. I've done a similar paint job on an SI V2, doing most of the grooves over in red and adding a full leather wrap to the body of the hilt. If you held it up close you could see some mistakes, particularly on the shallower emitter grooves, but when fighting or displaying it looked WONDERFUL. I also did gold grooves onto another SI V2. Much less even coating, as I didn't get the metallic paint mixed well enough I think, but it provides a nice accent to the pommel and gives it a worn look that's nice.

I find that Model Master Acryl Paint by Testors works really while on lightsabers and it comes off with water. Though if you want to put some designs where your hand is going to sit you need to put a clear coat on it.

Post by: Eiyame on September 22, 2012, 02:53:52 AM
My problem with the Bane (13") itself its stupidly long for a short person like myself; if its over 12"; that's pushing it for a one hander. And I am a one hand to a hand and a half user.

So unless your 6.5"+ and your a two hand one lightsaber person; (which I am not) you are going to have a hard time wielding the thing.

But if you want to see the Bane with BH. Put up a request on the picture request thread.

Nice! I seem to detect some tones of Magenta and Hot Pink. Betcha it looks awesome  :) Even though I am more of a Jedi fan, Red has always been one of my favorite colors and all the red based us saber colors seem to be really cool. I just wished they had at least one good jedi that used a red saber in the movies instead of relagating it to sith only.  :(

For the record, Luke used Red on one occasion, as did Obi-wan, though both are in relations to the EU (Luke  vs the Emperor Sidious  & Obi-wan and Asajj Ventress vs Darth Maul and Savage Oppress [All red battle]

Yeah you never see it in the movies, but there are plenty of EU examples.  Leia later uses red, as does Saba (one of the members of Luke's Jedi Council).

Furthermore, and here is a bit of trivia for you

Way back even in Official Cannon history many Jedi used any color of crystal they could get their hands on. Though the Sith still mostly used red crystals, due to being cut off from the crystal caves of the frozen planet of Ilum and having to synthesize their own crystals; and red crystals are the easiest to make in this way. It was only later that they started saying it was for this, this and this reason when it was just a act of necessity.

Revan as a Jedi, used a purple saber, then when he turned to the dark side his purple saber remained and he ended with duel wielding a red and purple lightsaber. Then when he was turned once again this time to the light, he kept both his lightsabers. Thus as a Jedi using both a purple and red.

(Thank my husband for his love of Revan for this tidbit he has  stuffed into my my brain along with all the other useless Star Wars Trivia)

Samuel Jackson (who is more used to playing the bad guy) better know as Jedi Master Mace Windu wanted a red lightsaber, but was told no because it was a Sith only color.

They used the Green and Blue vs the Red in the movies in order for movie goers to tell if the character was a good guy or bad guy.

Man I am way behind on my star wars knowledge. LOL Looks like I need to dust of all my old books and comics and start re reading. Now that it is mentioned I do remember Luke using a red saber in some of the comics I read.

I heard that he ONLY would join in Star Wars as Mace Windu if he could use a purple lightsaber since 1) it's his favorite color and all characters (allegedly) that he has ever played incorporates purple one way or another in the movies he's in (once again allegedly), and 2) So he could stand out in the large Jedi Battle towards the end of EP2 TCW instead of being just another Green or Blue saber in the crowd.

According to a few sources (both online and from actual personal accounts from a friend's bf, etc) they all say the same thing. But here's an excerpt from Wookipedia.

Quote from: Wookiepedia
George Lucas permitted Windu's signature amethyst-bladed lightsaber at the request of Jackson, making Windu the only character in any Star Wars film to have a lightsaber that is not red, green, or blue. In addition, the prop department replaced the activation plate stud with a plate reading "BMF" [57] in reference to Jackson's character in Pulp Fiction. Before Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith began production, George Lucas was approached by Samuel L. Jackson who, knowing that Mace Windu was to die in the film, insisted that his character not die "like some punk". While promoting the movie on Conan O'Brien, he revealed his request to Conan, who joked that perhaps Windu would meet his demise by slipping on some soap in the shower.

Also, according to an interview on the Late Show with David Letterman on May 13, 2005, Mace's purple lightsaber was a personal request from Jackson to Lucas as a quid pro quo for appearing in the films, as well as a way of making the character unique and easily distinguishable. Jackson, an avid Star Wars fan, especially wanted his own color so that his character could be easily spotted and recognizable in the final battle scene of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones amid all of the other Jedi.

Sam Jackson's love for purple comes from the time he spent in college in Atlanta.  Purple means a great deal to him and during the "making of" for Ep II, Jackson is caught on camera asking for his lightsaber to be some other color.  George asks, what did you have in mind.  Sam replies Purple.

Sam does have it in every film that he is a part.  Legend at the college he attended states that Sam's love of purple deals with a play that he watched there as a student and inspired him to do the things that he did.  Kind of a reminder of where he started and where he is now.

Any how, back on topic, the saber looks great and I cannot wait to see what future customs will come to your future sabers if this is a taste of things to come.

Thank you for getting back on topic,

But anyway, I have a Shock LE coming to me, this week. Though I am unsure how much customizing I will be doing to it. Because its a lovely saber as is. But I'll see after I have it in hand.

When it comes to design I like simple and elegant and go by "less is more".

I have gutted the poor thing... and also have gutted my Monarch (raffle prize) who's sound board is getting put in my libby. And the Monarch is becoming a stunt, since not on of my friends (or family) like to use the thing, having sound in it is pointless.

So list of things to do to Libby...

~Drill sound hole(s) in pommel
~Drill switch hole for AV switch
~Install sound, AV switch, and LED with QD

Things to do to Monarch

~Install new guarded switch (broke the first one)

Yes that is an old Obsidian Sound Board 1.0, and that's my Shock sitting next to my computer.

How do you wire inside there?

I have a broken wire in one of my sabers and just need to reconnect it, then use heat shrink. It was a grab bag so I dont really want to pay to ship it all the way down for repair plus pay for the repair.

It is just a Dominix V3 in Arctic Blue, with standard 4 AAA batteries.

Depends on where the break is. I have just started to learn how to wire sabers. So I would ask that question in the technical board, I just don't feel conferrable answering that question.
