Title: Boot question Post by: Dalian on September 27, 2012, 10:31:34 PM So, I've been looking at some boots online and realized something... They're expensive! So I was looking around and found these on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Funtasma-Pleaser-Halloween-Roman-15-Black/dp/B001AHAE8U/ref=sr_1_2?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1348784384&sr=1-2&keywords=gladiator+sandals (http://www.amazon.com/Funtasma-Pleaser-Halloween-Roman-15-Black/dp/B001AHAE8U/ref=sr_1_2?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1348784384&sr=1-2&keywords=gladiator+sandals) Now, they are technically gladiator sandals, but, I figure I put them on over some black socks and black scrub bottoms and it could make an interesting take on a sith costume, thoughts? Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Manroon on September 27, 2012, 10:43:56 PM Not bad, not bad. I tend to recommend finding either some old riding boots or otherwise original or replica German boots from WWII. They're surprisingly affordable when they turn up, and look great, if slightly plain. They were something of the standard boot of the OT.
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Dalian on September 28, 2012, 02:48:13 AM cool, thanks, I'm checking ebay as we speak
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Manroon on September 28, 2012, 03:03:24 AM Anytime. Glad to be of help. :) Again, they may be a bit plain, but they're affordable and easy enough to modify. BTW, if you get a pair that's kinda dry and stiff, you can just work on em for a little while with water and a paper towel, and also a little leather oil. You can pick that up for cheap at anyplace that sells shoes.
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: ed_ification on September 28, 2012, 04:05:16 AM Some boots can be expensive, but good ones that will keep your feet from agony later will be pretty pricy. Are these a multiple costume boot, or Star Wars only?
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Manroon on September 28, 2012, 05:06:48 AM Which reminds me you'll want those German boots on the large side. 2 pairs of socks or a gel insole works wonders for comfort in them. :)
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Dalian on September 29, 2012, 01:55:00 AM Any suggestions on where to find them? Ebay doesn't have any in my size (US 13 shoe), some companies have measurements of sole length and width and I... am usually 1 or 2 centimeters bigger than their biggest boot both ways lol
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Dx6channnel on September 29, 2012, 03:48:44 AM Me and my brother each have a pair of these: http://www.amazon.com/Funtasma-Pleaser-Mens-Halloween-Captain-100/dp/B001AH60TC (http://www.amazon.com/Funtasma-Pleaser-Mens-Halloween-Captain-100/dp/B001AH60TC)
We are on day 15 of filming a lightsaber duel and they have been holding up great. Good to know, I had been wondering about those and couldn't find a review by someone who had actually used them for my purposes Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Manroon on September 29, 2012, 03:53:17 AM I just Googler German wwii boots and several sights came up last time I was looking. I'd search and link but I'm on my phone. Lol
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Master Nero Attoru on September 29, 2012, 07:35:45 PM Good to know, I had been wondering about those and couldn't find a review by someone who had actually used them for my purposes Yeah I actually have the same ones in black. Definitely a good choice for a cheap pair of boots, I haven't done a lot of sparring in them but I haven't had any problems thus far. Plus they're tall enough to look normal on me, which is actually pretty tough to find for a guy my height (unless you get some riding boots like Manroon said). Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Manroon on September 29, 2012, 07:38:04 PM It should be noted any riding boots will be a PAIN to duel in. Wood soles lack traction. lol
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Thonolan on September 29, 2012, 09:02:40 PM This place has great quality pieces and a fairly wide selection and a good choice of inexpensive gear. I linked the boot page specifically. I know they don't have a lot of specific star wars gear, but when you are looking to do a hybrid build or an original Idea, it is something to consider.

They are not hard to find where I live, are made of high quality leather and look nice.
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: eerockk on October 26, 2012, 06:35:45 PM Those boot-sandals are awesome! Match that with a leather (style) trench coat and the dark side would be all yours!
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Ricos on October 27, 2012, 08:11:50 PM have you tried a Star Wars costume website ? lol http://www.buystarwarscostumes.com/search.aspx?q=boots&x=22&y=15 (http://www.buystarwarscostumes.com/search.aspx?q=boots&x=22&y=15)
Title: Re: Boot question Post by: Darth Abaddon on December 05, 2012, 02:23:50 PM If I may, http://www.atthefront.com (http://www.atthefront.com) is a WWII re-enactment shop site. I can PERSONALLY vouch for their quality as I have purchased a WWII GI uniform from them. They may seem pricy but after weeks of shopping around they are the best price for the quality you get, which may I add is amazing.
You will easily find your boots there. And if not try http://www.soviet-power.com/product.php?cat=24&PHPSESSID=4b296b2259d44e23eda9b3f9e3662b01 (http://www.soviet-power.com/product.php?cat=24&PHPSESSID=4b296b2259d44e23eda9b3f9e3662b01) Hope this helps you. P.S. At The Front may take some time to get what you want back in stock as they make just about everything in their own ''factory'' using real issued gear as a reference. But their products are immaculate. |
