I figured the Customizations section was a good place for this. I know that LEE filters seem to be the go to brand for filters especially when you could get the swatch for free. Now the swatch is $.01+ shipping so I went looking elsewhere. I found Apollo Filters today and you can request stuff from their website including a filter swatch book. And it was FREE.

I mostly am doing this to tweak my new SRD blade. It is just a little more blue than I would like. But this may be my excuse to get an AS saber!

I figured it was worth a shot as well, so I sent one in too.

After you fill in all your info, which box to the right do you select? Is it the Apollo Gel Swatch book?

Yep the one that says swatch book. I got an email that said they got my request and would send them out. So its lookin good!

I want a set now. Maybe get some sick colors for my Guardian Blue Bellicose. Do I have to fill in the background experience page? Answer quick. I wouldn't mind having a free set of filters.

I got an email yesterday that said my promo mats were on the way. I live in Winnipeg, so shipping didn't seem to be an issue.

I dont know that adding a filter to a non-multi-color LED (i.e. VA or SYD) would do much, I tried it with my BR saber and the most any filter did, and I tried multiple shades of blue and green (seeing if I could get close to either a purple or yellow) and the most they did was dim the blade.   I would expect similar results from GB just because it's a solid color LED, just like the BR.

I too would like to know how you guys have been filling out the experience, background, and job sections on the form. I would assume if 20 people fill out the form asking for a swatch book with 'lightsaber collector and dueling enthusiast' in there, it might start raising some eyebrows. lol But I'd love to get a set of these for my AS Shock! Just wanna make sure I fill it out right before I make my move. :)

I just put I have experience with color filters and I would like a booklet please then for the job title I put no job title. I hope it gets accepted.

I told them that I worked on a few production crews for musical theatre shows in college and high school and that we were always trying new filters and would like to try the Apollo ones as well. For me personally that was absolutely true but even if it isn't 100% true for everyone you can probably adapt it. I put that I worked sales in the Job Title. And they took mine and said they would send them so I think it will be fine. They just want to get their name out there and that's why companies offer free stuff.

Good to know. :) Perhaps I'll see about requesting a set tonight then. My work DOES involve photography, though we don't really use filters, so I suppose that can work in my favor.

I just said I work with custom costumes and prop replicas.

It's probably just to see what kind of industries are interested in their stuff - not to validate if you're worth sending a sample to. :)

It's all true to some degree. "electrical engineer with sound and lighting" was my covert way of saying "lightsabers"

Its a good thing we dont all live in the same area, they might get suspicious!

Does anyone think its possible to add a filter to CG to make it Emerald Green? Im really curious

I've done it. Sort of. I might say it's more forest green though. lol It's dim, but not horrible. I imagine with a filter as opposed to the standard color disc, it would be brighter. Let me see if I can dig up a pic for you...

Forest is on the left, AS in center, and regular CG on the right. The CG is UEHG, the AS is HG, and the Forest is Mid Grade if I remember right.

Yeah that is dim, but it still looks good. As embarrasing as it is to say, the blade I am using with my CG is a slavaged MR Darth Maul blade! But it works perfectly in my saber, and looks good with the CG. Thats the one I'd like to add a filter too. I also have a US SY blade I'd like to make more yellow orange, (mac and cheese color) Think it can be done?

If not for my current lack of batteries and the, erm, likely damaged condition of my arbiter (related to the current battery condition lol), I would throw an orange disc in there and let you know, but I'm pretty sure that your desired color could be achieved. So long as all you're looking for is a shade adjustment, filters can actually do a fair bit for a colored saber from what I've seen in my (granted limited) experiments. :)

Nothing, it's just the one saber out of my collection that seems to be cursed. lol Actually, what it is.... well, you remember that embarrassing story with the exploding battery a few months ago? Inspection of the saber after said incident revealed some burnt wiring. I've not used her since, for fear of accidentally damaging the board, LED, puck, or another battery. I plan to just take it all down to parts and rebuild it myself when I have the skills and time. Should make the weathering I want to do easier, and allow me to add QDs at the same time. Poor little Armitage, she's been through a lot for such a young saber... lol

I put a request in on the 28th or so and they came in today. There must be about 150 different ones in here. Just waiting on my AS saber to get here to test them fully. Added a green one to my SRD that was just a little too blue for my liking but now its nice!

Anyway pretty fast turn around for them to get here so I imagine others should be receiving them soon too.

I requsted mine the 1st or 2nd and I still haven't got am e mail... I hope I get mine...

Here is what they look like. I pretty excellent assortment of colors. I'll get new sabers tomorrow so I can test them out. I'll post some pics tomorrow night.

Just got my email saying that they are sending them out and me only requesting them yesterday.

I like how we think alike, get free filters, buy a new saber, much like how I got a free blu-ray, so I bought a blu-ray player lol

I actually ordered the new sabers and then looked for filters. They just got here sooner than the sabers :) (Which get here tomorrow!)

I told them I work with photography at work, as well as photography and video in a hobby capacity, and sometimes experiment with lighting in those areas, and was interested in a swatch book to see how their product compares in that use. All true. ;)

Though I DO wonder how they would react if I told them the lighting I experiment with in my photography comes from a lightsaber, and that it's the subject of the photo. lol

They probably love light sabers and own about 20 a piece and that's why they're in the filter business ;)

Oh I would love that. Wouldn't it be great if I got an email from them that just said 'Your filters are coming Manroon.... you'd better post a review....' I'd be all like 0_o lol

I ordered mine on Friday night or Saturday, I forget which, and I haven't gotten an email yet either. I think though that it's because of the weekend, and then the holiday. *shrug* We'll see.

I just put in the job title Photographer since that's what I am now basically and that I need a booklet for a project. So we will see how it turns out this time. =]

Also, cut out a piece of Dominant Lavender for my wife's saber and it took the pink edge off her VA, now it's a really nice purple - she's thrilled.

The best part was when she asked, "How much were these?" and I was all, "Free sample FTW!"   :D

Dudes! I'm getting a free book of Lee filters! :D Just got confirmation today. Well, they asked for my shipping address. This is so awesome. :P I'm going to tweek my blue blades and my red blade. Maybe come up with a nice purple. Now I also got a reason to get an AS saber. Might turn that to yellow.

@ Z.T. glad  to hear that! I plan on (trying) to turn my CG into more of an emerald or blue green color. And I will play around with my SY to make even more colors in the 50 shades post I did.

I'm just going to go for an AS Prophecy to play around with the colors. Hopefully getting it this week. ;o

Also whats the best way to put the filters inside the blade emitter? I might go for an Aeon V2 LE while I still can. Always wanted that hilt...

Honestly I don't know I have to experiment. I was just going to trace the blade and cut the circle out.

Yeah, I just traced a blade plug and and cut'em out.  I did it pretty roughly too, because I was eager to try a lot of colours (I didn't have the patience to cut out 2 dozen perfect circles).  It actually doesn't matter if they're rough around the edges IF you have an MHS emitter you can remove. 

I remove the emitter and place filter right on the LED module and screw the emitter back on (with the blade still in).  If you don't have an emitter that comes off, you'll probably need to cut your circles very neatly and be wary of getting them stuck inside the end of the saber.

Also, funny things happen if you have FoC - I put a blue filter in my Sentinel Yellow with silver FoC and it gave me an emerald green blade with a near Arctic Blue FoC. 

Green with blue FoC?  It's definitely different.  :)

I'm working on a video and photo thread for filters vs color disks. I'll see if I can't get it up in the next few days.

I got my Apollo filters today! Smaller than I expected, but who cares they were free! They came with a nice catalog of thier products too, interesting, but ill never use them. The swatch book has a lot of colors! I'm not sure how many, probably 70+.  My favorite color name so far is "Yellow Snow" and its pretty acurate too

Yeah, someone had a good time naming all those colours, a lot of good puns in that little swatch book - I'll post some of my faves when I get home.  :)

Sorry to revive an old thread but Apollo seems to no longer do free gel books anymore. Kinda sucks. I was going to get me a new gel book. I'm getting new Lee's though so I'll be good there.
