Title: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Master Nero Attoru on October 11, 2012, 07:05:22 PM Many of you probably don't know this, but I just recently got a Graflex SE for my girlfriend. It's Arctic Blue with silver FoC (which, btw, is an EXCELLENT combo) and we both absolutely love it.
Like my Jacen Solo Dark Prophecy, this saber had a theme in mind. I always think of the two of us as Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade in many ways, and not just because they are one of the most badass couples in Star Wars. They share a relationship based on the perfect yin and yang combination - Luke's easygoing nature vs Mara's fiery sass, Luke's humble farmboy upbringing vs Mara's start as an Emperor's Hand on Coruscant, Luke's skills as a Jedi vs Mara's skills as a spy and assassin, etc. Many of these traits I see in my own relationship, and I can only hope that it continues to grow in strength until it's as powerful as the eventual marriage between those two characters. Anyway, the point of this rambling is that Luke eventually recovers the lightsaber he once lost on Bespin, his father's hilt until he lost it dueling Obi-Wan, and gives it to Mara as a token of his gratitude for her help. (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20071128233328/jedipedia/de/images/e/eb/Luke-Mara-LS_EGF.jpg) I had planned to obtain the Graflex eventually anyway, choosing Arctic Blue to make it a true OT hilt, and once I recalled this moment in SW history my decision was made - it would be my girlfriend's first (and probably only) lightsaber with sound. Without further adieu, here are some pics. One of the hilt: (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8309/8072502342_f8acc0101b_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neroattoru/8072502342/) And a few in the hands of my lady: (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8316/8072677419_f7229d7895_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neroattoru/8072677419/) (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8182/8072676803_b9ebb51a67_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neroattoru/8072676803/) (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8169/8072677961_8f5b227460_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neroattoru/8072677961/) I've really spoken enough already, but I just want to do a quick summary of my impressions thus far. First, I had expected this hilt to be less comfortable for some reason. It's not that I didn't have faith in Ultrasabers - I really, REALLY do after all this time and so many sabers ordered - it's just that it seemed far too accurate to a true Graflex replica to be terribly comfortable. I was wrong! This thing is an excellent Makashi hilt to be completely honest, I have found a number of comfortable places to grip it with one hand, and the lower grips give a good solid place to place your other hand for a two handed style. The details on the thing are beautiful, and I really need to take some more detailed pics to show it off appropriately (I will, later!). The Obsidian board is LOUD (seemingly even more so than usual) and the sound quality is excellent as usual. Finally, my impression of the silver FoC is a very positive one - two thumbs way up for this flash color, especially with the beautiful Arctic Blue blade color. Seriously, this is an all around excellent hilt. If anybody here wants to own a functional version of Luke Skywalker's first lightsaber, I highly HIGHLY recommend it. As usual, questions and comments are welcome. Enjoy! Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Sky Dragon c5 on October 11, 2012, 07:09:58 PM Do you prefer the arctic over the guardian for the hilt?
It looks amazing. Glad it works better than I expected. Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: ThreadJack on October 11, 2012, 07:16:55 PM I think I already know the answer, but is the activation box removable?
Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Master Nero Attoru on October 11, 2012, 07:17:57 PM I think I already know the answer, but is the activation box removable? I don't think so... I'm pretty sure it's glued on. Usually I'm not a big fan of them, but I think the rounded design of this one makes it VERY comfortable despite what you'd think. Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Veldryne on October 11, 2012, 07:18:39 PM wow i think that last pic...her grin can safely be described as "poodo eating" lol
she looks pretty happy Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: ThreadJack on October 11, 2012, 07:19:55 PM I don't think so... I'm pretty sure it's glued on. I wanted to see if I could add one to my Prophecy when I get it. Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Kham-Ryn Kurios on October 11, 2012, 07:23:42 PM Cool story bro, and saber. ;D
Point for being awesome, also your lady's name is the same as my lady's name and that's funny. Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Vex on October 11, 2012, 07:36:07 PM Great saber to match a great story!
Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Master Nero Attoru on October 11, 2012, 07:38:17 PM wow i think that last pic...her grin can safely be described as "poodo eating" lol she looks pretty happy She likes to pretend she isn't, but she isn't fooling me ;) She loves it, I know she does. It's a great addition to her collection, which at the moment is comprised of this, a GB Aeon, and a VA Archon V1. Cool story bro, and saber. ;D Point for being awesome, also your lady's name is the same as my lady's name and that's funny. Thanks! Maybe you should get one of these for your lady too ;) Granted she already has a Dark Shock (IIRC), but still... it's an awesome hilt! Oh, and here are a few pics of me dual wielding it with my custom Luke ROTJ: (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8177/8072666478_937fc9e507_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neroattoru/8072666478/) (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8170/8072672683_74e9b63bc6_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neroattoru/8072672683/) (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8309/8072667282_38bfe1a558_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neroattoru/8072667282/) Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Manroon on October 11, 2012, 07:55:07 PM Looks absolutely sweet! I want one. lol
@TJ: It might require some work, but I believe you could possibly add a box to a Prophecy. It would, however, likely take a bit of work and some tools... Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Master Bluespike74 on October 11, 2012, 08:43:47 PM So are you going to get a CG Archon to match? Also, glad that things are going so great for you guys. Of course, you know that I love that hilt right?
Have a great day and thanks for sharing. Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: i2oadi2unnei2 on October 11, 2012, 09:41:37 PM Love the story, the pic and the saber, thanks for sharing!

Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: Deep on October 12, 2012, 10:08:40 PM Darn. I wanted to see if I could add one to my Prophecy when I get it. You can. He's got a couple different Luke's including a nice showpiece that he "could" duel with but is too scared to break it lol. Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: sabertooth on October 17, 2012, 06:36:31 PM Did you find any scuffs, little bit of scratches on the saber body?
I just received my very first ultrasaber, Graflex as well yesterday and was wondering if those small scuffs and such is to be expected, or I'm the only one. Thanks! I just received my very first ultrasaber, Graflex as well yesterday and was wondering if those small scuffs and such is to be expected, or I'm the only one. Thanks! I don't recall any, but I could have missed it if there were some... I pretty much was dueling with it right out of the gate like I do with most of my hilts, so scuffs are a normal sight on my hilts ;) I think there are some machining defects from time to time though, so I wouldn't worry. And never forget he's the ONLY one with an Obsidian Luke ROTJ MR. ;) Damn straight! I am quite proud of it too ;D Title: Re: Arctic Blue Graflex Post by: jmPlagueis on October 17, 2012, 08:07:54 PM And never forget he's the ONLY one with an Obsidian Luke ROTJ MR. ;) I will never be able to express enough envy... |
