MLS LED Question

So here is the deal... The wifey had pretty much allocated me with limited funds and I have about 50 bucks to spend.

What I have : Bellicose in CG and Aeon in AS

What I want to do :

New PO LED unit for Bellicose

I want a new color in my aeon so my question is in regards to the MLS units themselves.  I understand there are two sizes MLS units one for the small narrow sabers and one for the larger ones...

My question is : is it possible to remove the CG LED from the MLS housing that fits into the bellicose and then remove the AS LED and replace the CG LED into the smaller MLS LED unit that fits into the Aeon

So I would have my Aeon in CG and then I would buy a new PO LED unit for my Bellicose and then I would have an extra LED

Is it possible to take apart the LED units and swap LEDs from the larger unit to the smaller unit ?

Not only is it possible but is easier than you think. From memory, the base heatsinks are the same threaded sections so you could just unscrew the top off and switch them.  You will still need to cut the wires and resolder to switch between hilts. Green and white run off the same voltage so are interchangeable.

I think the PO is the red-orange luxeon led which you could purchase individually and install into the led module housing, or if you want to get a separate module it would allow for quick disconnect swapping. Note that the PO will run off a lower voltage so will probably require a resistor

The only size difference is in the outer casing, so far as I can tell. It screws onto the heatsink, with the LED unit in between.

You can disassemble it by hand. I find holding onto the wires and gently twisting the outer casing will be sufficient to start unscrewing it - no tools required!

Very nice ! Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to make sure there was no glued elements that I would be fiddling with.  I plan on just buying the PO MLS from Ultrasabers so I do not have to mess with resistors and what not and trying to solder the right led board dyes - thanks for the responses to both James Casey and Darth Vapour - much appreciated !

Ok so I actually opened up my sabers tonight and I forgot a detail…  I am going to list my specs and then ask my question…

I currently have a Bellicose with Buck Puck, in CG with FOC

I currently have a Stunt Saber Aeon V2 with AS

My plan (since I really don't like FOC that much) was to purchase another MLS LED unit for my Bellicose in PO, that should work.

I wanted to re-purpose my CG LED from the bellicose and put it in my AEON

Originally I was told I should be fine to do this but I came across some info that made me question it before I started cutting up my Aeon…

It looks like for FOC equipped LEDs they use a 10 Watt LEDENGIN ?

So my question is … Can I take the LED that was from my Bellicose that is FOC and re-purpose that by simply cutting the wires and re-soldering them to my Aeon ?

hahah my knowledge is so limited in this field and I am seeing conflicting information… I am seeing that If I do this and its not regulated properly (standard battery set up on my Aeon) that I run the risk of it not working.

Could one of you expert saber smiths shed some light on my conundrum  ?
