I must raise a question here. How is Peter Mayhew supposed to reprise the role of Chewbacca when he needs a cane to even walk most of the time?

They will likely need two people.  Mayhew would do all of the voice work, and wear the costume in any scene he can sit in.  Then someone else would have to do, well, the rest.

Or they could design some really cool natural looking staff that would actually have to hold his weight.
