The Mad Professor

« on: March 26, 2014, 08:11:46 PM »

Whedonverse alum Amy Acker has landed a pivotal role on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Acker will appear in at least one episode of the ABC series as Audrey, the famous cellist first mentioned in Marvel's The Avengers as being the love of Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) life. A talented musician turning heads in Portland, Audrey believes Coulson to be dead and has no idea that he's guarding her from a distance as a super-powered threat from her past re-emerges.

The cellist, who had remained nameless until now, was mentioned earlier this season when Raina (Ruth Negga) goaded Coulson by saying his former long-distance lover had cried for days after his death.

Acker's casting marks a reunion between the actress and Gregg, who shared the screen in S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing adaptation. Currently starring on Person of Interest, Acker is also well known for her roles on Whedon's Angel and Dollhouse, where she worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. bosses Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Her credits also include Once Upon a Time, The Good Wife and Alias.

Acker will appear in an episode slated to air Tuesday, April 22. Are you excited to see her on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Tuesday, April 1 at 8/7c on ABC.

I'm a fan of the show and I liked angel so I got no problem with it. I think this is cool to find out more about Coulson.

This poor show....

While I have watched every episode since the premiere, their week to week missions are not compelling.

It was only recently that they seemed to up the stakes, now I have an interest in the characters and their well being.

I must not forget to point out that 'Arrow' had a slow-burn start its first season as well.

We also need to remember that the show has to exist and coincide with the movies. Given that Captain America: TWS deals specifically with a serious division within SHIELD, they have to be mindful of that.

This is why there have been so few episodes recently. There are only two episodes between now and TWS, and after that, there are five episodes on a regular weekly schedule.

I have a feeling that a lot of the issues people have had with how SHIELD operates will be resolved once TWS comes out.

That seems like a reasonable assumption, there is likely to be a HUGE amount of fallout from TWS.

Fallout that would have to affect how Coulson and the Agents operate in the MCU.

I still don't understand all the negativity towards this show... in fact, every time I sit down to watch it from my DVR, I instantly become happy because S.H.I.E.L.D.!

I guess it's because I'm a sucker for those shows that portray strong bonds of friendship and unity, especially since I never had any real friends growing up, except for two truly amazing ones way back when. So for me, watching this show is like watching all the stuff I could never have because personal issues and moving.

Yeah, fine, I suppose everything else is kind of bland... but the characters and the relationships between said characters make up for all of that in spades, IMO.

Can't knock that, they certainly have better chemistry as a team now and I can't get enough of Fitz-Simmons.
