I picked up my first Ultrasaber a few weeks ago. I paid an extra $20 to choose Consular Green as the color and to get an UltraEdge blade. I ended up with a Dominix LE V3, which ironically would cost exactly the same as my grab bag with customizations. Regardless, I still think the grab bags are a good deal as mine resulted in a hilt that I probably wouldn't have picked otherwise. Next time, I'll leave the color to chance and skip the blade Smiley

As my first Ultrasaber I was pretty impressed, even without sound. The LED is extremely bright and the blade is very strong. I purchased a couple of fx signature sabers during May the Fourth sales on Amazon and was disappointed when I learned how fragile they are. There is no way I could play with my four year old with those things! The Dominix on the other hand is quite solid and can take all the abuse a toddler can bring.

The UltraEdge blade is really nice and distributes the color evenly. Speaking of color, the green looks fantastic and is extremely bright. I have literally used it as a flashlight! As for the hilt, I love the black anodized color and the silver LE accents. The shape is pretty nice as well; the bottom ⅓ provides a nice handle for single handed swings and there are nice gradual transitions into the choke points. It works well as a two-handed saber as well.

The thing that I like most about it is that it taught me something about my hilt preference. It is a bit longer than I'd prefer and the grooves in the hilt are deep and wide, especially in the choke areas. I'm learning to spin and the grooves make it very difficult on my hands without gloves. While I still really like the saber, it has been very helpful in making a decision on my next saber which will be a stunt Apprentice V4 in Arctic Blue, something that is a little bit shorter with a smooth choke point. I'm also planning to go all-out on an Emerald Manticore CE with sound the next time there is a sale Smiley

Overall I was impressed with the saber. The hilt looks nice, the color is great, the blade is even and bright, shipping was fast, and the price was very reasonable. I have a medium-length hilt and now I'm ready to try a shorter one of a different style. Totally worth the purchase!

Hi Jason.  Nice review.  Glad that you are enjoying your first US.  The Aeon/Dominix line is quite popular.  I started out with these and have found both the v2 and v3 to be good for spinning and dueling.  Now I appreciate a shorter saber.  Really like my v4 Initiates and will be getting an Apprentice to try out the difference.  The choke points on the v3 generally are the most comfortable and provide ease of handling.  You could try 0 rings in the grooves till your palms and fingers become less sensitive.

You do have to double check the total cost of the grab bags against other base end sabers and DotD.  GB's are good for starting one's collection and the element of surprise makes it worthwhile buying.  Extra blades are always good to have.  If you do get an Initiate or Apprentice, it will come with a 24" blade ( unless upgraded ) which will be a good safe length for your youngling.  Here's a light side appreciation point to get you started.  Let the forum know if you prefer dark side.  Smiley

Very nice sabers. I also like mostly the Dominix sabers Tongue Looks good in Consular Green. I will also be getting this same set up here soon =] I mostly do stunt sabers though for fun and dueling and such. I have one saber with sound and I'm good with that

Thanks Dauntless Seven! I think I'll pick up a few more grab bags in the future and leave the entire thing to chance. I'll have enough blades to go around by then. Some people have picked up some really cool color / hilt combos that way.

Thanks Jason.  Just be aware that with the grab bags you could get something like a Prophecy or the newer v4's, but may repeatedly end up with the same style of saber such as a v3 Aeon/Dominix.  The only blade colors that I have received in grab bags or free sabers are GB and CG.  Some members seem to have more luck with forum colors and mid-higher end sabers or even unique anodizing features.  These will most likely not come with a covertec wheel or any other saber specific design features such as the Prophecy screws.  Suggest ordering two or more gb at a time for variety as US usually will not send a duplicate saber and blade color at the same time.  Smiley

Haha don't I know it.  My first purchase which was a grab bag showed up as......  an aeon v3 in..... BR.  Because I needed a blade (+$15) being my first Ultrasaber the cost ended up being a wash with the regular msrp of my exact saber.  Some people talked about receiving double the value of the cost of the grab bag but I don't think anyone should bank on that.   Oh well I still stand by my decision because I wanted to be "surprised".  That was half the fun.
