Hazard is right, but there's a work-around. I can do spins and duel with the above Emerald Consular with Dark Menace Emitter (Silver Underlay with Windows), and the grill stays in place. I haven't tried heavy contact dueling, but I don't do that usually.
Here's what I did (the key is using the 3 retention screw drill holes):
1. Only screw on the silver or black underlay part of the emitter to the hilt. Leave the flanged part of the emitter and the grill off.
2. Put your blade in (no, you don't need to have a blade for this to work).
3. Here's the tricky part (it takes me a couple of tries to get it right--aka a couple of minutes): you have to screw in the retention screws tight enough so that it holds the blade snugly, but not too tight because
the 3 retention screws need to hold the grill in place once you put it on top of the underlay. So, in short, the retention screws will hold the blade snugly, but will also protrude a little bit from the underlay (it won't be exactly flush with the underlay, just creating a very slight bump that the grill can hold onto).
4. Put the grill on (over the tip of the blade, down the length of the blade, and if you did #3 right, the grill should feel some resistance as you push it over the retention screws).
5. Screw on the flanged part of the emitter.
The blade is very secure (I have no worries about it), the grill stays in place for any spins and probably any dueling you do, and you get to use your Menace Emitter on any saber! Perhaps if there was only one retention screw on the Menace Emitter, this wouldn't work as well, but who knows...
Good luck!
