The Big Bang Theory :D

Well since I got an saber, im in practice almost ALL the day.. (da/v\n its just too much fun swinging an lightsaber Cheesy !!)
Since I'm not just swinging around, having fun.. imagine I'm an Jedi on a secret mission.. (Actually that would make fun as well)
I'm analyzing my Swordtechnique and the usage of my Saber.

For example:

I've got an Standard Issue Battle Saber (without sound and RGB)
The Balance of the Saber (With mid Grad actually) is at the emitter. (More precise.. If you count the rings from the top of the hilt to the bottom.. it lays exactly between the 3rd and 4th ring!!)
I'm using Ataru, what means for me.. the more I hold the blade on the balance point.. as better I can swing and protect myself.
When I hold my saber lower then the balance point.. I'm getting exhausted very quickly, since I have more weight to move.

For an Djem'So user.. this means.. the more he gets grip lower of the balance point.. as harder he can hit! (try it out)

I think it would be an very nice idea, when showing the balance point of the blade on an additional picture in the shop, when you order your saber!
(Balance Point without Sound and RGB)
(Balance Point with Sound, without RGB)
(Balance Point without Sound, with RGB)
(Balance Point with sound, with RGB)
(Balance Point of above with several Blade [Ultrablade, Mid Grade Blade, Heavy Grade Blade])

This would make the decision much easier.. and will give you a hint, of what saber you should get when using different battle styles!

Correction:  You mean the emitter, not the pommel, I'm assuming.  The pommel is the part that unscrews so you can get at the batteries.

And calculating the balance really has too many variables (IMO) for them to put it up on the site and say "This is where the balance is".

And it's not too hard to judge it for yourself if you have a look at the reviews.  Heavy grade will be further forward, 36" (standard for single sabers) blade takes it even further.  Mid grade 32" (standard length for staffs) would have it behind the emitter like you said.

Ahw yeah ^^ thanks alot.. updated it ;O
Hm.. sure quite alot of work.. but still you dont need to put an extra picture for it.. you can just write in the Blade description:
"Recommended Battle Style: Soresu"
or "RBS: Djem'So" (or others)

would make things easier for experienced people, who wants to get the perfect saber.
Or people who knows the battle styles but aren't active in the Forum.

Just an idea :O

a nifty possible option i'd like to see as an option is perhaps a pommel identical to some of the current Ultrasabers offerings, but machined in steel, or with a steel insert to further drive the balance point back into your grip.  they are elegant weapons already, but it would be fun to play with the balance point.

Balance is indeed important. Your balance should be located at the emitter or somewhere close to it since that's where most forms grip the saber. However, Makashi tends to use a grip more towards the pommel of the saber, so in choosing a form II saber, it's very much alright to find a saber that's a little heavier towards the pommel end.

I have never concerned myself with a balance point per se. If the weapon feels even in my hand as I spin, then all is good. To go into calculations on what part of the weapon is balanced (this point or that point, or THAT point, etc) is something that I personally find a waste of my time.

But that's just my preference.

its useful to construct a lightsaber, or any weapon, with balance in mind because of the effect various kinesthetic traits might have on given techniques.  blade heavy weapons facilitate cutting, pommel heavy balanced weapons quicken the point for thrusting, central balance eases spins in pole weapons...its dictated purely by personal preference, and the depth to which one wishes to become accustomed with their tool of choice:)
