Well I've had this saber for a few weeks now and thought I should encourage even more people to get one. I'll post photos once I work out what's happened to my camera...
I ordered the saber with an ultraedge heavy grade blade (without sound - though I am working on that), which works perfectly with the guardian blue LED, even in the brightest daylight I can get around here the colour is still pretty obvious. The balance point of the saber with this blade in is ever so slightly beyond the end of the emitter - I'd say about a centimetre away. Though I've not got much experience with swords and the like this is a pretty hefty bit of kit, it feels like an actual weapon; swinging it around and hitting things with it is really fun and I can't wait to get back up to uni to use it in assassins!
The hilt itself is absolutely lovely, the finish is a sort of brushed aluminium, and if you look closely in certain places the grains of the metal are visible! I love that, it makes me realise that the metal used really is of a high quality, since smallish grains are best in most practical circumstances...
The hilt is really well engineered, the threading on the 3 separate components fits snugly, and has yet to undo itself. The battery pack fits snugly due to the nice touch of added velcro wrap, and the LED module fits rather snugly too - I asked for the quick disconnect option, which appears to work a treat, though I haven't yet got any spare modules to change colours.
The grips on the main body of the hilt are perfect, they don't stick out but go inwards, and stop my hands from sliding around on the hilt. The shape of the hilt itself also helps, the curved choked point guides your hands to comfortable positions.
The claws on this saber were the main selling point for me, they are really solid and do help to act as a sort of guard for your hands, they add a certain flashy uniqueness to this saber and remind me somewhat of a cross between Saruman's staff in the LOTR films and the 11th Doctor's new sonic screwdriver.
I'd give this saber 10/10 (though I may be somewhat biased since it is the first one I've ever bought!), its a really nice solid, well designed bit of engineering and I couldn't be happier with it.
As for ultrasabers customer service 10/10 - you guys are brilliant, they kept in contact with me the whole time when UPS decided to send my saber on a little detour, and were willing to help even though it wasn't their fault at all. When the parcel arrived it was rather the worse for wear (rather bent, signs of being put in a deep puddle , and possibly opened and resealed) but the contents were pristine, thanks to the massive amounts of padding that the sabers are wrapped in.
