The Dark Shock is a well-built hilt, with both an MHS (Modular Hilt System) Emitter and pommel. It also comes handily with a pre-installed covertec wheel, to hang the saber off your belt. Because it has a MHS emitter you can get it with quick disconnect with a MLS (Modular Light System) unit to swap out colors. I got the RGB version which has 4 guarded switches 3 for each color (RGB) and one for primary activation. There is also the option if you get sound to make the primary switch an AV switch but I felt it should match the rest.
-Saber Design
The design is very unique, simple, yet elegant. The emitter with its ribbed groves and the large accent groves all long the hilt. It is not overly complex but still very recognizable. The RGB is a really nice length. I actually like the extra length the RGB switches add. I know many call it a drawback but I do not.
What are the features?
I ordered mine as I said with RGB and with sound. As well as the guarded switch as the master to match the rest. I got Silver FOC (Flash on Clash) as it matches all of the colors in RGB better in my opinion. The only other option for FOC is orange. This is due to there already being 3 LEDs on the dye. One thing to note is you cannot get quick disconnect with RGB so don’t order it with it. This is because there are many more wires for the RGB MLS.
-How it handles both one and two handed
The shock RGB works very well in one and two handed because of the extra length and the balance point is actually in a great location with the stock parts.
-Weight/Length in comparison to another saber
The length is really nice and is similar to my Liberator when my Libby has a Dark Shock pommel. Weight is slightly higher, due to the thickness of the hilt.
-What specific things you would change or enhance
I wouldn’t change anything about this hilt. It is an older Ultra Saber design but still one of the best!
-Possible customization ideas you have if any
I ended up doing an interesting bit of customization with my Dark Shock RGB. I really liked the Manticore emitter, but the Manticore saber didn’t have a Covertec, and it also couldn’t have RGB with sound due to it being such a short hilt. I thought the Manticore emitter would look great in any color so instead of getting a Manticore with tons of MLS units I got my dark shock RGB. I swapped out the pommel too for a plain Shock pommel to match the all silver look of the Manticore emitter, I liked the lines of the shock pommel that matched the taper of the Manticore emitter. I thought the two Manticore pommels were a bit too simple for the emitter. The low profile just seemed too small, and the high profile looked too harsh having no tapered elements. The other big thing I did was add the smaller section of a Guardian pommel as a choke for the emitter. I felt the lip on the emitter was too close to the ring that is close to the emitter on the shock. With the shock pommel it makes a good grip but with the Manticore it is too small for my hand to be comfy. But the Guardian pommel section is the best choke I have found and would work great on any MHS saber.
-Overall thoughts of the saber
Overall I love my Dark Shock RGB. The ability to live swap colors is amazing. The hilt is beautiful, and if you look at my saber reference chart, it has everything available too it. The only other that is this complete is the Overlord, but it doesn’t have the curves and details like the Shock series.
