The cheapest sound-capable lightsabre that US offer are the
Initiate v3 and
Dark Initiate v3, both of which retail at $59.99 plus shipping. Limited edition ('LE') versions of those hilts are also available for $5 more - they add
gold or
white highlights to the grooves on the hilts, respectively. The Initiates are pretty comfortable to wave around one-handed, or for those who're younger or who have smaller hands.
Adding sound will bump the price up quite a bit - $100 for the sound card, plus around $30 for the li-ion battery installation. Soundless ('stunt') lightsabres can run on 4 AAA batteries. For sound, you
must have the li-ion batteries.
Any hilt can have
any colour. Consular Green and Fire Orange are standard colours, so there's no extra charge for choosing one of them (or Guardian Blue or Blazing Red). Other shades come at a premium of $5 or $10 depending on exactly what you want, and other shades of green and orange are available, if you're not taken with the standard shades.
I started my collection with a soundless hilt, and one year later I have 16, of which 10 are soundless. Adding sound adds a lot, but it's not essential - there's something very satisfying about just waving around the glowing blade, and of course you can make the sounds yourself...
If your budget can stretch to it, I'd suggest going up to the cheapest full-size hilts, the
Aeon v3 or
Dominix v3 (both of which are also available in LE versions, again a $5 added cost). The price difference is fairly minimal ($69.99 for the basic hilts) but they're better suited for two-handed wielding, which suits most people, I think.
