So I was browsing youtube videos and I came across one that said "blah blah blah it look them long enough to come out with un-edited versions of the original trilogy on blue ray blah blah blah the version with no sarlac worm, no CGI jaba scene, and NO greedo shooting first."
I was like WWWWHHHUUUUUUUUUUU??!!!

Anyone know where I can get in on this? I'm not really sure how to looks this up. Ebay really doesn't say whether its the un-edited version or not.

It hasn't been done, to my knowledge.

However... http://www.cracked.com/article_19906_6-pieces-fan-art-that-are-better-than-original.html

No such thing exists. not officially anyways.

You can find several fan made hi-def versions of the originals, but Lucas has never offered them, nor will he.

Oh, yeah. Not a great version, though - look up the Limited Edition DVDs released back in about 2005/2006 which have the theatrical version as a bonus. Stereo sound, grainy, letterbox picture... It's the original version, but I'd honestly struggle to watch it on a standard 16:9 widescreen TV, and if you're an audiophile...

I get the many points of why people want the original version, but I'm not sure it's worth tracking the DVDs down for this version of it.

I've watched a lot of versions, and IMHO, the 06 theatrical DVDs are pretty good. However, I grew up with grainy worn out old VHS tapes, which makes ANY quality seem pretty darn good. lol It's not that the 06s are a bad quality, per se, it's mostly just that eight years later a lot of people are used to an expect much better, and did even back then. *shrug* For my money.... the BEST cut is probably the Definitive Collection on Laserdisc, for visual and sound quality, but then I have not watched the blurays at all. The 06 DVDs are best for convenience.

Really, it's all a matter of your preference. Smiley

So far the best I've found is Harmy's DeSpecialized Editions.  They take a while to download, and technically aren't blu-ray, but they are 1080p and the sound is pretty spot on.

I believe with George out of the decision making process, releasing a restored, hi-def version in un-edited form will become a possibility.

With the new movie coming out by the end of next year, I would expect to see announcements for all kinds of things in the lead up to Episode VII.

I purchased the BlueRay version just several months ago & I like it. I noticed most of the differences in the release of course but it was forgiven while I watched. What I was really looking for was the squares around the Tie Fighters during the combat scene with Luke & Han. Very interesting.
