Used a different method to weatherize my modified Consular hilt. Used fire for the burn marks, dry brushing with flat black and metallic gray (on black body parts) to add details, then clear coat. Turned out really nice. The good thing is, I can polish off what I did since I did not sand the surface so it will clean up nicely if I want to revert it back. Pics below.

Nice job. What did you use to weather this one?

Per the description above, "Used fire for the burn marks, dry brushing with flat black and metallic gray (on black body parts) to add details, then clear coat."

More detail: A large grill lighter was used to create the burn/scorch marks. Then lightly rubbed it down with a soft cloth. Added some detailed touches with dry brush (flat black and metallic silver). Then clear coat.

Sorry, should have been more specific. I meant what did you use as your burn source. Thanks! It looks great.

That actually looks amazing! I really like the points that seem to have been hit by blaster bolts

Thanks! I was going for a well used hilt that has seen some action. Smiley

Decided to mess with the weatherization to add some more details. I was trying to create the look of the where the hands were placed on the body, so there would be a rubbed off look. I think I got it looking pretty good. I also added some darker areas in the grooves, which would not be as clean as the exposed surfaces. Below are some closer pictures of the details. This is only my second attempt at weathering and so far I like how it turned out. (Note: I also replaced the flush retention screw with a knurled thumb screw).

Also want to give a shout out to Darth Rifter. I used his dry brushing technique on the black body parts. Worked great and super easy. Thanks!

How did you get the black scratch marks and faded marks on the saber. It looks bada**.

Dry Brush technique with silver/gray on the black parts. Chrome parts were done with a lighter to get the burn/scorch marks, then followed up with some flat black dry brushing. Then a thin layer of clear coat. Once it dried for about 30 minutes used a lint free rag with a very little amount of paint thinner and rubbed the hilt down.

The cool thing is I can reverse this anytime, which I did. This saber looks completely different now. Smiley

Same saber below. Cleaned up, new media blasted choke and new low profile pommel.
