Hello everyone! I've got some noob questions with some back story to help you understand why I'm asking them.

1. My and my new fiance are thinking of doing a saber duel in our wedding. We aren't sure what type of blade would be needed. In an event like this presentation is everything. We won't get too crazy hard with our contact, but we will be using our blades to practice with before. Would ultraedge mid grade be enough?

2. We just got engaged 2 weeks ago and plan to get married May 4th, 2018, (yup, we are those kind of star wars fans). Currently there is the 15% sale, and it is very tempting. How often do sales go on, and would there be something as good or greater between now and next year? We plan on getting sound based ones.

3. Color brightness. Comparing a Tri with the purple or teal (sunriders destiny). How much brighter is a tri vs one of these combo colors? Should I be concerned that the tri would be notably brighter then the 2 color one?

4. She is only 5' 1". Would a 32" blade be good or would 36" still be good?

1. Mid grade should be fine if you keep the contact light. If you're going full speed, full strength, then get heavy grade.  I wouldn't recommend trying to go all out so quickly in your marriage.  Wink  You could also get a couple extra blades, just in case.

2. The sales are pretty frequent, but you never know what will be up for sale it how much of a discount you'll get. If it works for you,  then you should probably take advantage of it.

3. There is a noticeable difference between tri cree and standard, but it's not a huge difference. Even the standard bulbs are plenty bright. I'd go with colors you like as opposed to only going with a tri cree color you don't like as much just because it's a little bit brighter.

4. I'd get her a 32 inch blade.

5. If you're getting sound, go with premium sound (v4 is well worth the price difference between that and v3). The lite soundboard uses standard batteries, and those have a tendency to come loose during duels. And, with the lithium ion batteries AND buck puck option, you get a brighter blade for the length of the battery life. This is super important of you get Sunrider's Destiny or purple. Otherwise, one color will dim faster, and your purple blade will end up looking pink or red, and your teal blade will look green.

Congratulations, and have a blast. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

You compared tri to standard. Am I misunderstanding in my thought that mix colors like teal and purple are using 2 lights, and are sort of in between tri and standard?

When I said standard, I was meaning non tri cree.

Here is the direct quote from US:

"Blazing Red, Consular Green, Guardian Blue, Fire Orange, and Adegan Silver are all made with single diode High Powered LEDs.

Violet Amethyst, Sunrider's Destinty, and Arctic Blue are all made with multicolor RGB LEDs and combining two diodes to create the Blade Color.

Tri Blazing Red, Tri Consular Green, Tri Guardian Blue, Tri Fire Orange, Tri Arctic Blue and Tri Adegan Silver are all made using Tri Cree LEDs with all three diodes wired together. Not compatible with Flash on Clash."

Tri cree are the brightest, and it would seem to reason that mix colors would be next. Brightness has a lot to do with our perception, and sometimes mixed colors don't appear as bright.

I fully agree with everything that Landen has said.

Especially about blade size.  I'm 5'7", and use 32".  A 36" strikes the ground for me...

Also, I'd imagine that your wedding will be somewhat brightly lit - unless you're in fact holding it the Mos Eisley cantina or Jabba's palace...perhaps look into day blades (not a US product - unfortunately).   They work great at ComiCons. Wink

Congrats on tying the knot, and welcome. Smiley

Good point about the day blades. The thought of mentioning to dim the lights for the lightsaber part crossed my mind as I was thinking about my brightness answer, but I forgot to type it.

I'd see if the location can dim the lights while you duel. I pictured it happening during the reception, and if  that's the case, it should be pretty easy to do. If not, Rapine has some good advice. Look into day blades.

You are correct in that it will be happening in the reception, after our first dance. My father in law might be a good sport and join in,  playing to be Darth Vader and take her away for the daddy daughter dance.

As for lighting,  I'm not too worried. It's most likely going to be done in a gym and the hope is that we won't use most of the gyms florescent lighting,  but instead dim,  "edision"  bulbs. So if we need to we can unplug a strained,  but the brightness won't be too big of a factor.

OK now I have been to A LOT of weddings but I like your ideas: dueling spouses (sounds Freudian  Wink) with lightsabers; the father-in-law as Darth Vader?  AWESOME  Grin

On a more serious note: congratulations to you and your bride-to-be  Smiley. And my wife is 5' 2". The 36" blade is too unwieldy for her; you're right that 32" should be more appropriate ^^
