Hello,

I finally finished constructing my first lightsaber-ish. It makes the sounds it should and the LED on the button stays illuminated, however, the Blade LED only flashes on when I turn it on for about half a second. Is this an issue with the Buckpuck I have?
This is the one I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LWU0UY8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can think of anything else besides maybe the resistor I used? I used a 1.1 Ohm resistor.

I used the 4th wiring diagram on this forum: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=42841.msg732779#msg732779

I cant think of anything else that could be wrong...

Thank you!!!

First that buck puck is about half  of the current output you want for the LED types typically used in lightsabers. It will make it run dim. I'm guessing the resistor you put in is also on the main LED since 1.1 ohm is much to low for switch LEDs that typically run at 20mA. If that is correct you do not need it. The buck puck is all of the protection you need to safely run your main LED. The resistor is probably dropping the operational voltage below forward voltage after the start up because of the current regulation.

The resistor I am using is actually directly connected to my switch LED which is bright as it should be, so I belive it is in fact the buckpuck causing my issue. What current output buckpuck would you recommend I order for a green clash orange modular LED system? You said half earlier so id assume about 700 mA but I would like to be certain before I make my purchase.

What color are you using most cool colors can run at 1000 mA but many of the warm colors are only safe up to 750mA. Using only 1.1 ohm resistor leaves you driving that accent LED at or over 1000mA, the amount needed for high power LEDs like in the blade. The switch LEDs are only made for up 20mA. You arr seriously overdriving it and it won't last long.

I see... I am using a green main LED and a clash Orange LED. I would run the calculations, but to be honest, I am unsure how to do the math without knowing the resistance of the LEDs and I've never used a buckpuck before. What kind of resistor would you recommend for the accent LED? I only used the 1.1 ohm resistor before because it was the one I used on my previous build (without the obsidian board) and just assumed the math would be similar.

Not sure on that one.  Sounds like an issue I had a while back.  Don't remember how I fixed it or what it actually was, so I didn't help this discussion at all.

I just replaced my buckpuck from the 350 ma to the 1000 ma and still have the issue. Now the soundboard is quieter however. I cant think of anything else I could have done wrong unless the buckpuck is still undergrade. Once again I am using the darker green main LED and the Orange Flash on Clash LED. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong is greatly appreciated.
