my theory is that Jedi dress like jedi and sith dress like sith, but how do the grey dress?
Because I am grey I would like a costume that reflects that, I was thinking (mainly because I am just about broke and I can easily acquire the parts) a long duster over darl colored pants and an earth tone shirt for the base. and choose accessories according to personal preference. I have a nice pair of lambskin driving gloves, combat boots, a burgundy/dark red sash, and a black watchcap. (sorry I don't have any pics). anyway, I was wondering if anybody here has any Ideas to improve it.

a duster is going to make you look like a smuggler. Honestly most Grey Jedi still dress like Jedi just some are more liberal in their color and style choices. But that comes down to personal taste. For example: My Twi'lek Grey though works for the Jedi she wears blacks, dark dark browns, silvers, purples, dark blood reds, whites, and creams. Anything that clashes with her purple skin she doesn't wear. And she wears a variation of the standard Jedi dress code, sometimes even jumping to a full black skirt, robes and tunic. I have seen Grey's wear Sith clothing, with a touch of Jedi, or wear Jedi with a touch of Sith. What makes a Grey Jedi is their actions not what they wear. I would read this http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gray_Jedi it would give you some helpful information on Grey Jedi.

I have read it, I I would prefer to think that those that have chosen the middle road would distance themselves from the two sides in order to not be mistaken for either. and I have added a hood to my duster so that it does somewhat resemble a cloak with buttons.

I would think that the Grey Jedi tend to purposely avoid the titles and restrictions of the Jedi or the sith and thus this would also include what to wear. I would think they wear what they want. Better to blend in than stand out.

What I said was my opinion. Honestly I hate dusters but its your costume. If you want people to think your just some random dude running around at con with a lightsaber, don't dress like a Jedi or a Sith.

You know, I would consider making a simple statement...make your design with a grey theme. Anyone who knows Jedi will see the grey and ask "are you a grey?" Just saying

I feel like a grey Jedi should have a grey cloak or robe. First, the better to hide in shadows, and second, nothing says gray Jedi like, well, gray. I personally would choose a style that is somewhat visually similar to a traditional Jedi robe or cape as well.
Beneath that, though, I think a gray Jedi can take much more liberty with their clothing. One option would be to do traditional Jedi robes in dark grays or darker, washed out shades of colors, or Sith style clothing in lighter shades. Another would be to have a more refined version of Jedi or Sith clothing. Fancier fabrics, muted trims. I would stay away from bright red and black together, as it's a pretty standard Sith combination, but a dark gray, deep burgundy, silver, navy, muted purple, deep blackish green, a combination of white and black, etc. would be good. Or you could go with standard Galactic fashion and dress like a bounty hunter or something. But if you do, I'd suggest adding in as many Jedi or Sith influences as possible to help sell the fact that you're a Dark Jedi, not a bounty hunter with a cloak.

you may want to consider getting a Grey Gi. These are pretty good bases for any jedi or sith costumes, and a lot of people around here seem to like them. They are also very durable since they are made to be tugged and pulled on.

There are some good tips here. I like your idea of using the duster, if you get a minute to post some pics of that I'd be interested in seeing it with the hood. My personal Grey Jedi costume is black under charcoal, with a cloak over top a simple tunic and pants. Master Artorius uses something similar, but with a robe instead of a cloak. One thing to keep in mind with this is that we tend to think of ourselves as our own Order of Grey Jedi, known as the Suns of the Force, so the thematic look makes sense. For someone who is more of a rogue Jedi type, a duster or other long coat would be very fitting.
I've actually been looking into some other options for a Grey Jedi costume, as an alternative to my more traditional robes. I'll let you know if I come up with anything good.

Assassin's Creed does have some nice costumes that could be easily adapted into a Jedi outfit.

That's actually one of my ideas... the hood thing really seems to fit the theme! Either something like this: or this: Both are from Volante design, they have some excellent stuff there from what I've seen. I'd probably go with some kind of black/grey combo...

Perhaps in gray, with dark charcoal gray or black underneath and a contrasting obi?

See, my SW persona, Rina Ascura, was a Gray Jedi during the later part of her life, from the NJO period and on. She looked, well, like a bummish old woman wearing something not unlike patchy and stitchy potato sacks, a gray bandanna and smoking a corn-cob. But this image may not be appropriate for you, it's specific for a single character, an obfuscatingly senile Clone Wars and Resistance vet.
