Hey buddy. Happy to see you, but hate this idea. Why weren't the rest of the droids equally efficient? If that were the case, it should have been "Green-droid, you and the blue rookie go fix the shields and repair the hull. Yellow guy, you go to engineering and get the hyperdrive to kick this pig. I'm going to MacGuyver an ion cannon and shut these federation bitches down. BREAK!"

Glad to see yall as well...  I guess it could be just chocked up to skill.  There are tons of shade tree mechanics that can keep a clunker running but there are a few that can damn near make run like new.  Whoever worked on R2 was just better at it.  Then he gets in the hands of Anakin Skywalker.... Then Luke....  Two of the 4 best mechanical jerry riggers around........  Han and Chewie being the other 2.

This is why I don't like the idea; instead of simply being better than the average droid, he had to be artificially enhanced. It detracts from R2 being an authentic hero. Similarly to how Steve Rogers wasn't a hero because he was enhanced. He already was, the serum merely magnified what was already there.

I actually did like the new aspect of canon that was ripped from the memes: R2 is the most foul-mouthed character in SW. It fits. R2 has shown time and again to disregard orders when it suits him. This is counter to how a droid should operate, considering that droids are most likely built and programmed with similar doctrine to the Asimov's 3 Laws. I had hoped in TFA that BB's little torch to Finn wasn't a "thumbs up," but rather a "FINE I'll do it. F@#% you!" And that BB would be the next gen R2; full of piss and vinegar, but all we got was bowling ball for hyuks.

I think it works for exactly the reason you stated...Droids are built all the same and mind wiped to stay that way.  The Naboo Astromechs are tweaked to suit the pilots but still mindwiped to follow orders.   R2 stoodout then Being around 4 of the biggest rule breakers in the Republic (Padme, Anakin, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan) just made him even more of a bad ass.  Anakin never mindwiping him also added to it.  I was hoping BB would be like an overexcited new kid annoying R2

I never took it as R2 being "better" than any of the other astromechs. He's just the only one that didn't die before his task was complete.

Really good quality and perfect for fans like myself into the moral issues around the Jedi and Sith, the limits of their philosophy, and nature of the force itself.

Well we're going off topic here but, chirut was just lucky afaic, he might be force sensitive but he's mainly trained in combat, the rest is faith and luck. Sabine was in it since rebels albeit not that good and still isn't. Marey sue was garbagely written for sure.

I have mixed feelings about Chirrut being guided by the Force at the end of R1. It raised an interesting question: Can a non-Force-sensitive still be influenced by the Force? We've read about instances where a Jedi falls into the Force or a Sith gives themself to the dark side; effectively giving up control for greater ability.

And as always: Yes. The DSW sequels were utter garbage.

My opinion was that Chirrut was NOT AT ALL Force-Sensitive, just lived by Faith.  That being said: I DO believe that the Force could influence all manner of sentients, Force-sensitive or no.

And your read about Jedi vs Sith is precisely what I've always thought.

...Sabine...just NO...and yes, I've seen most of "Star Wars: Rebels" and she was never a character that interested me...but now, suddenly, she's Force-sensitive?!  I've seen OBVIOUS Deus Ex Machina twists that've been done better...

Long story short: Force-sensitive Sabine=trash

Oh, that the Sequel Trilogy has NEVER been part of my head canon.

Well I'm a huge Sabine fan, what happened is... she got the dark saber. End of story. That's it. She got the ds so they started training her even though there was not a single hint of force sensibility. Kid is rewatching the whole show, so I'll watch closely for any force sensitivity...

Funny I never interpreted the last Chirut scene as him being guided by the force, I just saw a man sacrificing himself for the mission.

Can we please all agree the sequels never existed? pretty please? no? damn it.
