Hey all.  I am on the verge of picking up a Bane RGB saber, but I had a question before I buy it.  From what I understand, the Bane is compatible with MHS pommels.  What I want to know is if it would be possible to use a MHS coupler to lengthen the hilt even further.  now hear me out on this one: I really want to make a saber in the same vein as Darth Nihl's long handled saber.  I'm an experienced bo staff user and really want to give myself as much of a staff feel as possible, and I think the Bane would be an excellent base for my own Darth Nihl style bo staff-ish saber.

For those that dont know what darth nihl's saber looks like:

Any thoughts?

I like it.  From what I know (just enough to be dangerous), you shouldn't have any problem lengthening your saber with TCSS parts.  Just add a few extensions and couplers and you should have it.  Not sure how you would do that ring on the bottom though.

How long do you intend to extend the hilt? From my experience, a hilt as long as Darth Nihl's with that many extensions (and therefore many more points on the hilt with high stress) would have a greater chance of snapping apart in combat.

Id add a coupler and a 6 inch double female threaded extension.  If the rgb bane is around 15 inches, then the additions would make it almost 2 feet long.  I'm still worried about the stress such an addition would undoubtedly create, though.

Well, I am by no means an expert, but it sounds to me like the kind of hand-to-hand transfers used with bo staffs would put a lot of stress on the coupler.

I'm not sure though; I'll let someone with more experience than me chime in here.

What you should really think about doing is doing just a straight custom saber, or having a local metal worker or plumber help you out on one. Buy the saber guts and blade from US (LED, battery pack and blade are like 50 bucks, and ask then to include one of their guarded buttons as well) and then just make your own hilt. It makes a lot more sense than to risk hurting a really beautiful lightsaber.

yeah, I think I'm going to go with  JdiKnhtJMH on this one.  It does seem to be more logical, plus I wouldnt want ot ruin a Bane just to see if it would work.  And yeah, the pic is intense  Grin.

You know what it kinda looks like to me? Steel rebar, like they use when pouring cement/concrete. That could be bent in any form he wanted.

if you were to add the extensions , wouldnt that throw off the balance of the saber? maybe look at plastic conduit , i think its thicker than pvc but its seems a little bit more flexible. when i got my dominix v2 with a heavy grade blade a co-worker and i had a small battle and he wasnt being gentle , and the conduit held up to the shots we delivered.

I know this is little off topic and I didn't want to start a new topic just for one question, anyway here it is; Are the black grips on the Bane removable or are they part of the hilt?
