I have a red saber with an ultra edge. It looks great, you won't be disappointed.
Yes, same here!

I think red looks best in standard edge, but I think green and guardian blue look best in ultraedge, this is just my taste though, the regular blades tend to be more intense towards the emitter like that burst look in the movies. The regular does not light up around the edge of the blade where as the ultraedge is full all the way through. In short I think that the type of blade I buy depends on what color I buy. Hope this helps totally agree on the color being what type of blade "look's best" but it's all personal choice, i have blazing orange with UEHG and the guardian blue and sun rider's destiny in HG standard blade's just personal pref but thot i'd drop my 2 cent's anyhow

We gotta get the terms right in this thread or there will be too much confusion. Don't say "Standard Edge" when referring to the blades that use clear polycarb. Those are not Edge blades.
"Ultra Blades" have the silvery metallic core and have a clear polycarbonate outer shell.
"Ultra Edge" blades use a translucent white polycarbonate shell that diffuses the light, making the blade glow all the way to the outer edge, hence the name.

Ah damn, if that's the case I've been calling Ultra Blades "standard edge" all over the place. Piss. Oh, I see why. You don't sell anything called "Ultra Blades" specifically here. Do you use "standard edge" to refer to other companies' products and "Ultra Blades" to be the blades you sell that are not "Ultra Edge". "Standard Edge": Not sold by Ultra. Ultra Blades: Clear tube, silver core. Is this blade, in mid-grade, the default shipped with new sabers? Ultra Edge: White tube, silver core (though hard to see).

Have you, like, seen how fast the price of gas is going up?
As for blades, after you've decided on Heavy Grade, the rest is purely personal taste. My suggestion is, since you will undoubtedly purchase another saber after your first in the next year (bet you can't eat just one), be sure to end up with one in each edge. My preference is the standard edge. I think it looks more like a light saber when lit. I am in the minority.
I would like to echo the sentiments here, (I'm in the minority with you), in all honesty, I couldn't care less about a "white core" that is said to be with the ultra edge. I prefer to see nothing but the color I'm after, and in pics, the white core still comes out regardless. I would suggest you go with mid grade for the best color contrast, and heavy normal edge if you are going to duel with it (however this will make the saber substantially heavier). Like was said, I know I am in the minority, but the rest of you can have the ultra edge, I'll take the mid grade . Make sure to get the pointed tip though, for screen accuracy purposes

My opinion? As far as durability goes, depends on the way you spar. Most average intensity sparring only requires a mid grade blade, whether Ultraedge or regular. People who like to go a bit harder in their duels are more suited to heavy grade. This seems obvious but I'm just saying this from personal experience since most of my dueling tends to be lighter in nature, just to avoid potential injury. That said, I still love my heavy grade blades For the tip, I recommend the rounded tip. Not only is it cheaper, but safer as well. I personally, having lots of fencing experience, like to do some stabs so the rounded tip is much safer in that regard. Depends on your own personal preference though. I also recommend the Ultraedge, it does disperse the light nicely and gives a nice evenly lit blade. The regular mid grade or heavy grade, however, will work just fine - they just give a slightly different light dispersion. I can post some comparison pics if you'd like, just to give you an idea (I too have a red saber, a Dominix v2)

Don't worry about the red in Ultra Edge. My DL has an Ultra Edge Heavy Grade, and it looks awesome.

whatever blade you choose , you wont be disappointed with your choice when it arrives. when you open the box and turn the saber on for the first time, your eyes are going to bulge out of your skull and your jaw will drop.
