Why did you choose the path you're on?
I'm not sure I DID choose it, to be honest. I feel like it chose me! (Daft as that probably sounds) I feel that the Sith approach, or at least my personal interpretation of it, fits better with my mindset and attitude in life, and with the experiences I have had; most of them really, really unpleasant. I also have a very "black and white" view of strength/weakness, which MOST of the people I know do not agree with. (that includes many here, who have been very vocal of their criticism of my thinking) More I could probably say, but it really depends how much detail you can stand, and how deep you wanna dig.

Why do I choose the Jedi path? Because I don't believe in the approaches of pluralism and relativism. Without crossing any forum rules, let me say that I firmly believe in right and wrong; good and evil. I believe that as long as Light stands, the Darkness cannot stand. I believe that though Darkness and its servants will always seek to harm others, servants of the Light will always seek to protect, serve, and take care of others. While that doesn't 100% fit with all Jedi, it DOES fit with the ideal of the Jedi and is antithetical to the tenets of the Sith. I believe that the ideal Jedi will seek to overcome the problems that they face whereas the ideal Sith, in my opinion, simply seeks to cause more problems and bring all things and people under their own dominion. In my mind, like SW was intended to be, Sith are the ultimate Evil in the universe and Jedi are the servants of Good. That makes my choice quite clear!

Although it is not specifically Sith or Jedi, I chose the Aing Tii path for multiple reasons.
1. They don't have an allegiance to anyone. They teach based on the sake of knowledge. They believe the individual is evil or good, not the power.
2. They don't see everything as black/white in the universe. They refer to the Force as a Rainbow. There is no pure evil or pure good.
3. They are very protective of younglings and hate those that will exploit others for the purposes of slavery whether it is labor slaves or sex slaves.
4. They do hold a reverence for objects they believe come from those that dwell beyond the veil. There is nothing wrong with viewing something as sacred and giving proper respect when appropriate.
5. They prefer to be left alone but will engage when necessary.
Yoda held the Aing Tii in high regard enough to send a man named Jorg Cardas (sp) to live with them and be healed. So I believe that the Aing Tii are into the healing arts like I am.
Jacen Solo sought them to learn new techniques including those that were shunned by others in his order. Even though he was not pure of heart due to the effects that Anakin's death had upon him, the Aing Tii taught Jacen. They didn't judge him. They gave him a chance to learn. I have always been the most appreciative of those that don't judge me based on my background and financial status but give me the opportunity to learn and explore my own paths.
I just see so much of myself in the Aing Tii so I chose to follow their paths.

Yes but no matter what you do the shadow is always darkest with the brightest light and can stretch with the right motion. I personally am sith because I do not give my enemies a chance you oppose me I will kill you (not literal) I do not believe in a second chance you have one chance to prove yourself to me.

Much like Ben my RL spiritual beliefs led me to the Jedi path. I identify with it well, and ironically the polarizing misunderstood views and misguided representations of my beliefs. It's a struggle I can identify with.

I steadfastly disagree with the bold/underlined statement. I have, very recently, been given new chances at rectifying past mistakes, a fact for which I am grateful beyond measure. If I am afforded those chances, with all of my failings considered, the very least I can do is offer another those chances whenever I can. It's just common decency, IMO -- "pay it forward." I'm in the same boat as Lucien and Ben. My RL beliefs and convictions, both spiritual and secular, turn me towards the Jedi path.

I don't do second chances either. I used to and was crapped on from a great height; repeatedly. Now, it's ONE chance, stuff it up and you're finished.

My ideas of the world are realistic and not a dream we are humans and as such we on a primordial scale of things act. We off war in empty promises of peace but there is no peace in this world we choose to fight no matter if its primordial fear or if its anger we act on. When the wars end and peace begin more wars erupt. As long as we act like humans we will always have wars and fear peace is a dream all we can do is offer some order to this world. This isn't religion its a fact of life.

I agree, but especially so with the section in bold. See, if we constantly strive to be more than we are, we can have hope for a better tomorrow. If we take the Roman Stoic view that everything is set in stone and hopeless for change, then what is worth living for? As long as we act like humans, we WILL have trouble wars and issues...when we try to rise above our petty spats and differences, then we can have hope for the future.

Well that depends its a point of view the ideals of opposing sides are different so to sith Jedi are evil to Jedi sith are evil. As long as these simplistic ideals are encouraged no one can truly be good.

With that logic I do agree. It is fairly simple to see that Uncle Lucas intended that the view of the common person in the galactic community would not appreciate the murdering of children, enslaving of entire cultures, or blowing up planets just to make a point...the same people would find the actions of the sith to be against what the baseline of what is good. In any delusional person's mind, their actions can be seen as good. When I say Jedi are good and sith are evil, this is taking in account the general populous of the galactic community and not a fractured, tainted, or otherwise sith'ed branch of the same may think. Ask any dictator if he is right and you will get the same answer...ask those he has under his boot to maintain his dictatorship and the answer may not be the same. In the most simple of terms...Jedi represent and defend the common good for the galactic community as a whole. In the most simple of terms...sith represent themselves in a selfish pursuit of power and control without consideration of the common good for the galactic community as a whole. Ask a drug dealer if he is wrong and stand by for the stories..."I need to feed my family" "I had a tough childhood without options" "my mother was killed by the man so this is my way of getting back at him" blaa blaa blaa. So if the question is why pick Jedi or sith for fun, for role playing, or video games is quite different compared to ideology. I answered from my core...I find sith in all forms to be grotesque, foul, repugnant, and repulsive. But these are great qualities in a villain...and that is how the sith were written into the Star Wars universe...as villains...bad guys...e...v...i...l. No need to argue as this debate topic will go on forever...I applaud those who support the sith in context, I mean I liked Hannibal Lector as much as anyone else...but I never considered him a hero or a good guy.
