I've herd that fencing gear works pritty good for the head protection
TPLA uses, nay, mandates the use of protective gear for this. We use a fencing mask, road hockey/lacrosse gloves, and groin protection as standard bare-minimum mandatory gear, and then add other things as we like, such as shoulder pads, elbow pads, etc. Sure, we look a little goofy sometimes, but we're able to go at each other full-tilt and not pull any swings. Full-strength fighting and we live to fight another day uninjured! It's a no-brainer and the gear is more than reasonable. Fighting without gear is not an option in the TPLA Apprentice system. |

Well, I doubt the school's fencing team would appreciate us smashing our sabers into their helmets, lol. Great suggestions though. After a near-testicular-incident we did both point out that cups would be a great idea. Guess it's time to go shopping!

The only thing one has to worry about when hitting a fencing helmet is scuffing your blade! My mask is rated for 350N of force. A lightsaber is no match for a fencing mask.  |

Shouldn't it be the other way around. The masks don't even dent. I've been baseball-batted upside the head and nothing. I love my fencing mask!  A FACE is no match for a saber! |

Just think, a simple epee mask (the cheapest option) is designed to withstand stabs from a stiff metal blade, I'm sure it can take some nicks from polycarb blades... |
