Hi, myself and two coworkers are looking into buy some sabers and have a few questions.

Myself, im looking at getting the dark shock ultra edge heavy duty and I was looking at the audio options. The obsidian sound board, will this out of the box sound like a tradition light saber or do we need to obtain the sounds and add them?

Secondly we were curious about the possiblilty of dueling, will these be able to withstand an average duel?

Third, I have seen that the blades are waterproof, would adding sound therefore stop it being waterproof? (not a big issue)

1) The Obsidian board will come with a default sound font. You only need to buy one if you want a different sound than the default.

2) Yes Ultra Sabers are built to be be dueled with, so any saber you get will hold up to considerable abuse.

3) Sabers with sound aren't waterproof.

Let me add to that the caveat that the "Heavy Duty" and "Ultra-Edge Heavy Duty" blade tubes are the best for dueling, as thier toughness is comparable to a Kendo Bokken.

Waterproof lightsabers ? Am I the only one who thinks that it's quite silly to fight underwater ?

Welcome to Ultrasabers Therra!  I'm sure you'll be quite happy with your saber.  Just to reinforce the above posts, yes they are very durable especially with the heavy grade blades.  The new Obsidian board is a cool idea to get because it was built from the ground up by Ultra to be cheaper and more customizable than the fx boards.  I'd recommend giving it a try.

There was a durability video before showcasing how the sabers are waterproof; however that was back when they were PVC so I doubt it applies now, especially with delicate electronics like soundboards in the hilt.

Actually, although I doubt that they intend to go scuba diving with their sabers, here in the midwestern United States some of us do go boating, canoeing, kayaking, and inner-tubing down the many rivers during summer months. And, as always, accidents happen.
All things considered, I don't find the question all that silly.

I wasn't being mean, I was just kidding.

Of course, it's quite an interesting element. I lived in a little tropical island and with the rain and the nearly constant dampness, it's quite enjoyable when you can keep your possessions dry.

It's a nice plus.

Kit Fisto would disagree.

Damn...

I wonder how a saber reacts underwater... Does the blade make the water evaporate ? Is the wielder suddenly surrounded by boiling water ? Does it simply not work ?

I think I will take some time to meditate on this...

Trust me from experience, do not try and take these sabers in the water, I screwed mine up by doing that and I don't know how to fix it.

This should help (info from Wookieepedia)

Water: All lightsabers, unless specially made, would short out when they were submerged in water, due to rapid chain reactions and the instant overpowering of water on the blade. In rain, a lightsaber would steam up, but not short out.

Fisto's lightsaber contained two crystals employing a bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse that allowed the blade to operate underwater. This proved helpful on Mon Calamari during the Clone Wars.

Myself and Novastar use thin walled blades, and we beat the living heck out of our sabers. Thick walled blades can take a great beating yes, but they tend to weigh the whole saber down. If you don't care about spinning much and your hands are larger, thick walled blades are certainly a good choice. For all other applications, Mid-Grade will work just fine.

Personally, I think the Heavy Grade on my SI is nice because it balances it out, since the hilt it self is so heavy. That could just be in my head though. lol.
