Hello Saber Forum users. I guess you could consider me a "converted" Ultra Sabers fan after I mailed in two of my Master Replicas sabers. I was skeptical at first, especially due to the cost, but after receiving both my sabers back (with a third on the way), I can honestly say these guys do an amazing job.
Any way, I figured I'd give you a review on the first FX saber I had converted, the Anakin ROTS lightsaber. First, I'll say this. If you're on the fence about getting a conversion or buying one of theirs, and you have always wanted to bash the hell out of your Master Replicas/Hasbro saber, I say pull the trigger. Here's way:
As many of you know, the conversion process removes the LED-strip from the blade. And if you go with any of the blades from Ultra Sabers, you'll have a immensely bright blade that is nearly indestructible, even with the non-heavy grade blades. Since we are on that topic, I'll start with the blade on the saber. I upgraded and went with the Ultraedge blade. The blade is a slightly wider than the stock FX blades and noticeably much stronger (When I dueled with my Anakin Force Fx before the conversion, the stock blade, while fairly durable, was taking some serious damage and had a small crack running along the blade.
With the Ultraedge, I have been able to subject it to severe punishment, and it has not suffered any structural damage (you may get some scuffs, but that would be impossible not to). Also, the light from the converted saber stretches across the entire blade, giving what many people refer to as an more blade-like look, since the color runs all the way to the edge (hence, the Ultraedge concept).
Brightness is one area I know many people wonder about when it comes to each of Ultra Saber’s blades. While I only have experience with the Ultraedge, I’ve been so impressed with it that I don’t think I’ll bother with the midgrade. The natural white color of the blade itself coupled with the light from inside of it create a very bright and full blue color (remember, I’m judging this based on my Anakin Ultra Fx saber). In a dark, mid-sided room, the blue hue fills the space well. I was unable to duplicate that effect with my Master Replica’s Obi Wan ROTS Force Fx saber, which is known as the company’s brightest offering: it simply gives off a nice blue glow, but nothing as extensive and full as the Ultra Fx saber coupled with the Ultraedge blade.
As for the saber itself, it is well constructed. There are no loose pieces or major blemishes (my Anakin saber suffered some minor scuffing around the small gold “toothpick-like” extensions near the edge of the blade holder, but it’s understandable). Considering Ultra Sabers has to take these things apart and reassemble them, you would expect the saber hilt to have some rattling or loose pieces, but everything is tight and secure. Even when dueling, the saber feels sturdy.
Having the ability to remove the blade is another great feature, and really allows you to realize how well constructed the hilt itself is. It has a nice weight to it. Because the LED strip was removed from the blade, a single luxeon LED installed inside the hilt serves as the single light source. And let me confirm for you. That single source of light is so powerful that the entire blade is bright blue, not just the bottom, like some would expect.  Against the same saber without the conversion, there’s no comparison. The Ultra Fx is THAT bright.
Overall, the Ultra Fx conversion is a wise investment for anyone looking to possess the sabers from the movie with dueling capabilities. My saber has held up well over the span of 20 duels and has impressed friends and relatives whenever I bring it out. Don’t let the price scare you away. It’s well worth it once the package arrives.
Thanks for reading! I’ll be sure to post more reviews when I get a few more sabers. Also, I will try to post some pics of this saber when I fix my camera.
EDIT (pics added by Deep):At last, the pics are here. Enjoy!
