Hey Ultra, Deep & Co.

I was wondering if the AV switches will be available in different colours any time soon, i.e. withing the time frame of the summer sale. I really want a consular saber, but it will have to have a red AV switch. And I really don't want to miss out on either the summer sale or the obsidian inductee price.

So, when will the different coloured AV switches be available (at least for order)?

Thanks!

Obviously I'm not Ultra, so I'm sorry if this answer isn't helpful haha, but it seems like Ultra is super busy getting the Custom Saber Operations as well as the Obsidian sound font store up and running so I wouldn't bet on them coming out before the sale ends.  Then again, this is just speculation on my part, but I've been trying to get Ultra's attention about a custom job he did for me and he's been tough to get ahold of.  I'm sure other AV switches will become a reality soon enough though!

Point taken.

However... - and this is definitely NOT meant to insult anyone - so please don't try to get it wrong, because there's absolutely no point in doing so.
I'm not asking Schopenhauer for some new propositions nor Beethoven for a revised Moonlight Sonata. As great as UltraSabers are (I own a Prophecy, so I do hold their products in high esteem, just as I am happy with their CS so far) , it's a business. A dedicated one - that's true - but still a business. Ultrasabers being a business, they have customer service, a part of which is this forum, especially the "Ultra Sabers Questions" section. Ask and a member of staff will answer. That said, there has been a forecast of differently coloured AV switches. As a customer, I simply wanted to know, whether or not the new AV switches will be available within the timeframe of the summer sale. Easy and simple. No rushing involved. I am a patient person, but this does not mean that I have no questions.  And I see no harm in asking. Also the AVs have become/ are becoming a standard element in UltraSaber's products. The Consular saber is not a unique, customized saber and a red AV switch, for example, is just a matter of ordering parts. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me. I simply did not want to miss out on the summer sale and the Obsidian inductee price. For as much as I'm digging the Consular and the lightsabers-hobby in general, I still have to keep an eye on how much I can spend on it.

So I thought - hey, maybe it's possible to order a Consular with a red AV now and enjoy the reduced summer sale price tags, even if the saber cannot be built within the next 4 weeks, because the new AVs are not in stock yet. You see, I really don't mind waiting. I was just looking for the answer to my question.

I really like lightsabers. I really appreciate and respect the work of the sabersmiths. Also, I find the community quite enthusiastic, helpful, and generally friendly and likeable. However, I never drool over a saber, not even metaphorically speaking and I do not hold sabersmiths to be unquestionable beings with supreme powers one cannot or must not ask questions. They are busy people. So are most of us. I just started a new topic to get some info about a product I was (and of course still am) interested in and I did not demand an answer right on spot nor did I intend to noz give anyone the time they need to whatever it is they want to do.

I understand what you're saying, this forum is pretty much designed for good customer interaction with Ultra.  It's totally fair for you to ask the question and expect an answer - I wasn't trying to shoot you down, I was just letting you know that I haven't seen very much from Ultra at all lately, and have had trouble getting ahold of him myself.  That way you wouldn't be annoyed or think he was ignoring you specifically if you didn't get a response soon.  Good luck with your AV switch search, I hope you get what you're looking for!

I got the meaning of your first post and that you just wanted to help. Thanks. And of course, I do think you were right with your assumptions as regards Ultra & Co. being busy. However, I was still hoping for an answer by the gang in charge.

Still, what I generally find a little confusing are statements as to"sabersmiths being all that great and don't you ask questions". Again, it's nothing personal (just in case you feel yourself adressed, Dark Wraith) and not even board-specific. It's just that it doesn't help at all. Maybe it's also because I'm generally confused by the way, people praise the sabersmiths and their work. It's not that they don't deserve applause. But all this high-praise with 1001 layers of icing on top of it. If I were a sabersmith I'd feel rather funny about it. But then again, that's just me.

One of the things to know is that Ultra does all the custom work and that's not part of Ultrasabers LLC as far as I can tell.  The only other employee that I'm aware of is Deep (Emory) who runs the day to day business.  With only the two official workers it can be quite difficult to get in touch with them.  Trust me I've been trying recently as well.

Best of luck to both of us!

In all honesty I don't think there is much luck in a release before the end of the sale, I've been out of the saber loop for a while, the bellicose brought me back in... but to my understanding AV switches have been around for alittle while now with no real mention of any soon to come new AV switches.

However with a lot of the customize options and upgrades you could probubly either wait till Ultra has them as an option... or you can buy one from somewhere. either option you take you can probubly get it now for the summer sale, and then send it back to ultra when you have the switch or it's available on the website.

just trying to problem solve here~

also umm in response to :

That why our saber have been taking a while?, are they trying to get OS (Obsidian Sound) set up before they send out the sabers and we all log into the program and start getting new fonts? xD I'm just curious?

With that said I'm still trying to see a picture of an AV switch in a saber up close >=)

I will try to make some sense here, bare with me  Wink

It may seem like a simple matter to just buy some switches and offer them, but there are actually many variables we consider before offering anything.  We have to make sure the part is in abundance and can be regularly obtained year after year.  The small AV's are actually not that easy to acquire in large numbers.  It would really stink to offer a new switch only to be out of stock all the time.  20, 30, even 100 switches won't do; we need thousands.

So until we can find a supplier that will actually commit to a dedicated delivery schedule with us, we don't offer the part.  We lucked out on blue AV's and have many hundreds in stock with a good supply line for more.  Other colors are coming once we get the logistics finalized.  The turmoil in Asia has caused havoc for electronic components manufacturers, so this is taking a bit longer than usual, but we are diligently working on it to bring yall the parts you want at the prices we are known for.

On another note, this forum is NOT setup for customer service.  Forums like this do not serve that kind of function.  No financial records are attached to your forum account and the forum is not checked all that often by staff.  The only official customer service is handled through phone or email - never the forum.  Sure, if you have trouble getting our attention, give us a shout here and ask us to contact you, but ultimately, the forum is for:

  • Fun
  • Information to help make informed decisions
  • Sharing experiences
  • Learning new things
  • Socializing

Stuff like that.  This forum is a community, not a business, and we don't run the forum like a business because this is supposed to be a fun, laid back place where we can all come to relax and discuss stuff.  Of course, you can discuss the Ultra Sabers business, the products, get tech advice, and ask questions, but if you need actual customer service, we can better serve you through our official channels  Smiley

Hey Ultra,

thanks for the clarification. Rumor had it (via Email) that other AV switches (e.g. red ones) were about to come (very) soon (about 1 week).  Then there was no new info whatsoever. That and the Obsidian inductee price was the reason why I was so stubborn about getting an answer. Also, this part of the forum is subtitled "Have questions about Ultra Sabers or their products? Ask them here and our staff or members can answer them!", so I thought why not adress the issue here?

That's all. A No is not a problem. What I don't like is "very soon" and then nothing for weeks to come. Now I know roughly how things are and can live with it.

I see this all the time. New people get SOOOO excited about sabers, that they get very impatient with parts not being available, etc. when they don't understand what it takes to stock such a part. Ultra explained it very well how things must be for them to stock a part, so there you go.

Its kind of ironic now that i think of it. New members  introduced to the wonderful world of the saber community start of believing that sabers/parts should available right away for them because they want their first "specific saber" right away since they're excited and new to the whole sum of things around here. After a while though as you settle in your cries of i want it now will turn into cries of why ultra why must you keep releasing so many great products when i have just ran out of monies?!  Cry Tongue lol

Sure, now it's the newbies again...

@ Caine:

I've been a collector of comics and action figures for about 10 years now. So believe me when I tell you that I can cope with release announcements, delays etc pp. But if you get a CS email-answer telling you that the red AVs will be in stock in about a week and then you hear nothing else for 3+ weeks, you ask again. Also, I haven't been the only one interested in these switches. So I thought, I'd start a new topic for this. I do see now that in "the wonderful world of the saber community" this was a faux pas. And no, I had no clue how hard they are to come by. In my world it would stand to reason that if there are blue switches, there might be red ones as well. Now I know why it's not that simple, that I was mistaken and that I might have to wait quite a bit longer. Thanks. That's no problem at all. It's actually all I wanted to know - and IMHO it has nothing to do with being overexcited or whatnot.
