Leather Questions (pics)

Hey everyone, So i've decided that it's time to give my Aeon V2 the customization it deserves. I'm going for a Wandering Jedi Sentinel style weapon. I have some leather, string, and tools that I got from Micheals. Now I know of a few different ways to put this type of leather on... I could put it over the whole saber, cutting a whole for the switch and stitch it around the saber.. Or, I have heard it's possible to get a tighter fit if you soak the leather in warm water, stretch and stitch it, then let it dry and it will tighten? (if i do this method I plan to put O rings underneath the leather in the grooves. What do you guys think? where should the leather go? how should I attach it? Any other cool ideas for customizations? any feedback is welcome!

I've done a couple leather wraps and they weren't that difficult but they where a laced method. About the shrinking i think that lams skin works best for that because its a thinner material and that's done by first sewing the tube inside out soaking it and then rolling it on the saber . What you have there looks like what I've gotten from michael's in the past whitch is fairly thick. Also adding the o-rings is deffinately an option 1. It adds more grip 2. The V2 dosent have a protruding pomel ( they would help hold the wrap in place ) 3. They look cool.
But you still could get the leather to shrink to it I guess.
I can't wait to see what the final priduct looks like.

I haven't done a leather wrap myself yet, but I'm always looking for ideas. This thread struck me as interesting and unique.

I'm not huge on curved sabers but the leather work was pretty cool. Huh... beeswax... never would have thought...

Hey there.

I'd strongly recommend using some Scotch double sided tape under your leather, so it won't slide around or wiggle loose.
Also it has the benefit of protecting your hilt if you want to add more stuff to the leather, as pictured here on my Overlord.

The under wrap has the double tape under it, but the laced wrap is over that, and super glued to it.
So if I wanted to go back to stock Overlord or whatever, there's nothing glued to my hilt, just tape.

I used the same leather on my Raven Scepter just black. I just cut to fit and used Leather glue on the hilt on the back of the leather and it came out great. Its little messy so if you do it this way you will need a wet rag to wipe the glue off it comes out but otherwise it doesn't take long to set and if you mess up you can just wipe the glue off and start again. Also I used strips of the Velcro that you use to wrap up power cords with to hold in place until it dries. You can get a roll of that at target in tools area near the light bulbs.
