The choice of hilts is incredible, some I love, some not so much but I'm fine with a grab bag first time round. No expectations here, just excited to finally be part of the US family.
That's the best way to look at it. Either way, you're gonna get a sweet saber at an awesome price.  |

Hi Darth - the Renegade is a heavy sturdier hilt (2 handed for most people).
You will lose some dexterity with it if you plan to duel with it. It's a fabulous display piece but you may find it more cumbersome w medium to heavier strikes.

Yes, double-bladed sabers from the V3 and V4 lineup as well as all premium sabers (which can be combined to a staff) can be equipped with the Emerald Driver. Except for the V3 line they can even have the Obsidian sound board along with the Driver.
All sabers from the V2 lineup are incompatible and can't be equipped with any of the boards.

I personally feel like the staff setups are great, you get a lot for your money. It isn't just one saber, it's two. They'll come with pommels and a coupler so you can do a lot with them. As for the renegade being cumbersome, perhaps. I'm not a fan of the claws on it myself, they just look like they'd get in the way. I practice with its sister saber the flamberge quite often and while the side blades take some getting used to, I wouldn't say it's too difficult to use. |

Since the staffs are all made with Initiate, Apprentice, Dominix, Aeon and Sentinel hilts, you just need to buy two of any of those with Emerald and a coupler. |

When going through the process with ordering a grab bag, the first option is no blade or ad a blade for $15. Do grab bags really come with no blade unless you pay the extra $15? If so this makes the grab bag more expensive then the cheaper sabers.

Yes, they come sans blade if you don't order one. $15 gets you a guaranteed 36-inch blade in the thickness you order. However, for $5 you can separately order a 24-inch random (midgrade, heavy, ultraedge or not) grab bag blade or, for $10, you can get a full size (32 or 36) random blade. These options are found in the Parts section of the store, under blades.
However, if you're unsure you are getting a good deal, you should just order a "cheaper" saber. You've seen your options as far as sabers in the same price range as a grab bag. $70 (the price of a grab bag with blade) will get you almost any Aeon, Dominix, Standard Issue or Sentinel with a standard switch and midgrade blade. As someone who owns V2, V3 and V4 Aeons and two V4 Sentinels, I can say those are all excellent choices and any would make a great first saber.

my 1st was a grab bag and ended with a Dominix V4 in GB and went with the blade for $15 so I can say it was a deal for me and is kinda fun not knowing what you get.

My first was a grab bag too, I got an Initiate LE V4 with windows and an AV switch. It was a really good deal. Though, all four of my grab bags have come with AV switches. But, there are no guarantees. You can get anything from an Initiate/Apprentice all the way up to a high end saber (theoretically.)
