Do what I do depending on if your saber is something that has MHS style parts just take the emitter off and take a permanent marker and trace the circumference of the MLS. Then cut it out. It will fit snug and it won't be too small. I usually just trace around the open end of my blade with a marker. Then I cut the inside diameter of the circle made by the marker.

dont have MHS parts on my saber so tracing the emitter is out. Even more out because its an emitter with a slant, so cant make oval shaped filters. I will have to trace the end of the blade or even the blade plug.

So i began phase one of looking over the swatch book. But my color experiments were a little thwarted because my batteries were dying. Here's a little rundown of my process and findings.
I'm no light expert, and for those of you that are, please feel free to correct or critique this, but on that graph on the left of the color, i notice that the best bright colors are the ones that are in the 500nm(nanometer) range and shoot up to high transmission. I believe this is the ideal range of intensity coming from an Adegan Silver LED. The colors were bright and distinct, even when going through the blade. Its very obvious, because on the darker filters, the chart will have the nanometeres closer to right and low transmission. I believe that you need a stronger light source for those kind of filters.
I placed my swatchbook on the edge of my bed, and sat on the floor facing the wall, and used my hilt like a flashlight, going through the colors 1 by 1, casting the light onto the wall. i kept my blade handy, just to see how a color would look through the blade. i didnt make any cut-outs, i just placed the filter between the blade and hilt. until i get a little filing system going, i was afraid of cutting out the filters, cause with that many colors, its easy to loose track of what i cut, and what color it is.

Any thoughts on how you will file them? Maybe an index card box? I do recall seeing small paper envelopes that may be the right size for the cut outs, suggest looking at office supply stores.

I use my old plastic discs I USED TO use in my sabers to template for my cutting. If I had to identify some of the strongest colors with Lee filters... magenta, greens, and OKLAHOMA YELLOW is the balls. I also liked one called Fire and liked getting a less "Fruit Punch" type of red from Lee than my old discs gave me.

I do the exact same thing. Works really well for a starting size.

Index card box was my first thought, but the small envelopes would be the best. i feel like the filters might slide under cards in the box.

Hey I wanna contribute. I couldn't get a lee filter one, but I did get a totally free one from apollo gel. http://www.internetapollo.com/ContactUs/MarketingMaterials.aspxI got some good colors. i have a red one in a SY and got a nice dark orange. I also put another reddish one in a VA and got a pink I assume would be close to Bane's Heart. I got a lot and still need to experiment, but mostly the filters I cut out don't work too well. i found that an orange in a RGB gives you a amber ish instead of yellow, and another darker pink color, more magenta i guess. if you want pics just say.

I've eagerly waiting on my Metal Grab Bag with AS so I can play with my Lee filters more, but I love the stuff shown here with the AB led (My DSI has an AB blade) as well (MAN those greens are nice.
Two ideas for both cutting and storing:
Storing: I've just been using a WEE bit of low tack tape to stick the cut out piece of filter back to it's card, that way I know which color is which, and it keeps them all together. Handy, too, since you can easily get two discs out of each filter (for yourself, or a friend).
Cutting: I haven't done this yet, but I will soon. I'm going to get a short (5 - 6 inches) piece of steel pipe that has the same INNER diameter as the outside diameter of my blade, and then I'll sharpen one end of the pipe to turn the ID into a cutting edge so I can use the pipe as a punch. I did this at my old job to make hang cards for some pegs out our displays that were of an oddball size, and it worked like gangbusters. Then you just need a hammer and a wood block and you can quickly punch out a disc.

I'm curious on what the Apollo gels look like on a Adegan silver blade. mostly because of the manufacturing differences. That and I'm soo undecided on a single color. Pictures would be nice ! thanx .
