Dark side points please ^^

« on: March 08, 2016, 12:35:37 AM »

I do have two costumes to pose with the sabers for camera, but I'm not really convinced about them. One is my normal attire like I go out everyday (basically a black hoodie and a black coat) and one is the Sith Lady coat from Musterbrand that has more of an utilitarian look but does not convince me entirely. Recently I stumpled over something that I really consider to be marvelous for my cosplay idea for conventions, but it is as pricey as an Emerald lightsaber...

That's the baby I talk about, should I really get it for the price of a full saber?

The shop also has a little more payable attire that I may use instead... what do you think?

And there is even an option for the gents, I may use this one, but I prefere tailed coats

While I like the look of these costs, they're not really saying "Star Wars" to me. Obviously that is just my opinion though. Jedi (and to a lesser degree the Sith) were inspired by samurai warriors. I'm all for artistic license, creativity and originality in cosplay terms, but you want to keep things recognisable.

That being said, there are some pictures of the Knights of Ren that do look closer to the look of these coats. I know opinion has varied on those concept sketches, but I think with some straps and things, one of these coats could look quite cool.

I found the look I wanted in Assassin's Creed clothing. It looks like you might be after something similar.

Honestly, that 2nd one is really nice. I can see it incorporated into a Sith or KOR costume.

The first two both have a Knight of Ren-like look to me.  The second is my favorite, but I like the first, too.

I don't see the Knights (personally) as the type to bear unnecessary skin.  While they look cool, they are also very, very utilitarian--focused on functionality.  Something that offered less than the best protection is something I'd imagine them turning down, myself.

But does a piece of cloth really protect you from a saber or blaster?

Surprisingly, if it's the right kind, yes, to at least some extent.  According to The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary, a such thing exists as armorweave.  Also, Kylo Ren's pleated coat (the layer beneath his surcoat) is identified as being armor.

Nice coats you found! I think the second or third would work great as a piece to your costume. The price is definitely something to consider though if they cost as much as a saber  Undecided

Hey nice coats.  I like the first one.  Anything with a non-traditional cut/angle looks cool IMO.

The "assassin" style neck is a good look. For that reason, I'd look into Gilbert's suggestion.

Yeah I like that 2nd one the best. Also has an Inquisitor look to it too as well so a black Reaper saber could work Tongue You just gotta know how to work a camera for the blades to show up good

Thank you for your suggestions! I will look into Assassins Creed then, I already think I know what you mean...

For me, Knights of Ren do have a practical look, putting the ability to fight over everything else, but they also sport assymetric and highnecked cuts as well as some waisted cuts. The one thing baring skin would be one part of a more closed costume, I just like the assymetric and highnecked look of this. The first one does have more assymetrical features, the second one has more of a fighting style look overall.

I have now decided on this one:

But now I have to see what I want to carry underneath it... maybe a plain black turtleneck jersey; then I have to see what cape or hood I could use
