What's the difference between the Blade types? What's the best blade type?

Hey guys. Im thinking about getting  the color Sun Riders Destiny but cant decide which blade type to get. I already know i want a heavy grade but can not decide whether to get ultraedge or not. Any advice?

From the advice given in this thread, it seems that UltraEdge blades are best for photography. I own an UltraEdge that's used with an Arctic Blue LED. The white film inside the UE blade gives a fuller, more evenly-lit look but in person it does alter the color a bit. It ends up having a pastel shade to it, though it's still bright. Blues and greens tend to handle UE blades better than other colors. The benefit of the UltraEdge is more apparent on camera than in person. Pictures of my Arctic Blue UE blade look straight out of the movies. In person, anything with red in it will suffer somewhat because of the white blade film inside an UltraEdge. With a normal, non-UE blade, reds, purples, oranges and yellows will have a much truer hue and will still be very bright. If in doubt, normal midgrade blades are an excellent all-around choice for color, brightness and durability. Heavy grade blades will sacrifice a very small amount of brightness for durability compared to midgrades. I ordered a normal midgrade blade for my Chosen One SE in Blazing Red, based on Deep/Emory's advice and the observations given in this thread. Have fun with your saber when you get it.

I have been all UE since I got my first saber, but I have to admit that the standard MG blade looks great on my recent GB saber. I don't know if its the color I like in it or the classic look it brings to it. I'm now of the mind that some sabers look better in different blade types as well, not just colors. For example, I like the UE blade for my Bellicose, but will be sticking with the standard MG for my Shock LE.

question.. how come on the buying section of the website there is no 32" blade? there is only 36 and 40 and 24.

i have a 36 inch blade UEHG in the grab bag i just bought (first US its awesome) and i was thinking about buying a dark prophecy thats blazing red, and midgrade. it doesnt say on the options whether its 32" or 36" or even 40?

since i wanted to one hand use this US i was thinking 32". but im really confused.

It is not a super popular size outside of initiates and double blades.  Most companies I know will only offer those 3 sizes but you can order a 36" and put in the comments a request to have it shortened to 32".  This is what I do.

I'm thinking when I order in a few weeks I'll get UE mg but order heavy at a later date in case I can get some friends into dueling

I am not sure about any other blade type, but all the youtube videos have told me that the ultrasabers heavy grade blade creates a more fuller color and far as I can tell I am not disappointed by the blades of the two sabers I own. I will continue to get the heavy grade till I see something otherwise to this effect.

Rounded tips are standard.  The pointed tips are a $5 upgrade.

Hey Deep do you think it would be possible to put more links to this thread on the site? I know it is in a few places, but I missed it for my first order and made the mistake of my first order being a BR and FO in UEHG on my Phantom Initiate V3, so my first impression of US was great hilts badly lit blades (which I now know is most definitely not the case) anyway great thread much appreciated.

Actually, Blazing Red should generally stay on regular blades as well. Both Fire Orange and Blazing red look best in regular blades.

Heyas! I saw my first Ultrasabers at D*Con and they look so amazing, I must have one for myself, so that I, too, can become one with the Force by drunkenly brandishing a shiny lightsaber in a menacing manner at cons, ren faires, and other geeky establishments. However, I've got a few Qs first that hopefully you fine nerds can help with.

Stuff I know for sure:
I'm a 5'3" female, so a bit on the shrimpy side.
I want a purple blade ("BAMF" on the hilt optional), and I'm probably gonna go for DVA as opposed to VA.
I plan to do some moderate sparring but not actually fight anyone to the death.

Stuff I want to know:
I'm guessing a 32" blade would be a good length for me. The impression I get is that initiate is for kids, 36" is for adults, and upgraded initiate is for in-betweens and pint-sized adults. Is this more or less accurate?  I've got one of those cheap-o plastic retractable lightsabers at home that I've used as a costume prop, and it's got a 24" blade. When I play around with that one, the length is on the short side of comfortable for me, so I'm thinking I might just go with that, or possibly request a 28". Thoughts?

Blade type. I'm at a loss. Given the above info, what would you guys recommend? I'm keeping aesthetics in mind, but also wondering from a practicality standpoint. I'm leaning toward one of the heavy grade types, but I've also heard the heavy grades can get heavy enough to mess with the balance point of the Saber and make it difficult to wield. Is a 24" heavy grade a good balance for an initiate hilt? A regular hilt? How about a 28" one? And with DVA as a color, should I go with UA or regular?

I think for your height 32" would be fine I stand at 5'10" and the the 36" blades are quite comfy for me for single bladed sabers.

As for blade type the mid-grades can withstand light to moderate dueling so as long as your not swinging at full strength with them then you don't need a heavy grade bade which you can always grab one later so you have one blade designated for your dueling and one for show if you wanted to

For DVA I like it on standard but it doesn't look bad with an UE blade either
