OK, OK. Here it is. It's this Gear Keeper and it's heavily modified. http://www.amazon.com/Gear-Keeper-RT3-4568-Retractable-Instrument/dp/B00BB0AVB6. I took it apart carefully as to not totally destroy the casing. be carefull not to let the spring come out. It's very hard to get it back in(use a clamp of some sort). I replaced the wire with 100lb Braided Fishing Line. after 5 different modification I found that it needed a smooth metal opening for the string to exit out of the casing or it will melt the plastic because of friction. I used epoxy to glue a very small socket to the opening, the chrome works well. I placed the socket at the lower end of the device instead of the original opening to keep the string as straight as possible as it is moving to reduce the stresses. make sure you add a blocking attachment to the string so the line does not retract all the way into the device. Then put the casing together. I used Velcro so I can easily open it back up when needed. then I used an elastic velcro strap to attach to my wrist under my glove and pulled the string through a small hole on the palm side of my wrist. I used the 4lbs of force gear keeper because my saber was ~2lbs. I wish I had pictures. if I have time I will make a video. the string will eventually wear out. I tried many different versions with several kinds of lines, strings and wire. let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Everyone,

I'm not sure but this might be of interest to folks doing lightsaber spinning/tricks or choreography. If you want a slightly less complex way to have a "floating" lightsaber then maybe you could rig your saber to work like a Flow Wand or Levitation Stick. There are various videos on YouTube showing Flow Wands and info on how to construct them. As I mentioned maybe the technique could be adapted to sabers. I did see one video of a guy at a Con using something similar, when I find it again I'll post it here.

kind regards,

For Tyeth

EDIT:  The video/Gif is hosted on imgur but linked to that infamous gossip website, so not sure if I can post it here.

I have achieved something like this as well and have been posting on it over in the saber artistry section. Basically, I am just using string and a clip. http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=32700.0;topicseen.

Just finished my comparatively low tech rig a few days ago. I finally have it where I can do all 5 of the tricks I wanted to do. Here it is in action.

I am thinking about putting together a kit on my kickstarter. It only has 19 days left though and does not look like it will make it, So I don't know if I should do that or just wait and try it as it's own thing.
