I don't find Irish annoying . . . just difficult to follow because the lilt is "off" to my ear and my brain can't keep up with the speech pattern.

I actually really like a German accent.  Mmmm, yes.

There are a lot of different Irish accents too.  There are even a few that it takes me a good sentence or two sometimes to catch on to the fact that it's not American. O_O

Then there's the typical Irish "mick" accent that's barely decipherable (see "Snatch"). Wink

Edit: That doesn't read well...

True. The local pop station brought in an Irish DJ for the morning show about a year ago. Most of the idiots phoned in to complain because they didn't catch the point. Living in Northern Indiana, every(kriffing)thing has to do with Notre Dame and the Fighting IRISH. They all thought that U93 brought in an immigrant worker. (This is what I have to deal with on a daily basis  Cry)

Anywho, his accent isn't terrible. It's very similar, nigh identical to the one used by Tom Branson (Allen Leech) from Downton Abbey. That one doesn't bother me. It's kinda like Patrick Stewart's accent. You know it's there, but you can't really detect it.

Speaking of accents, this clip is from a popular Uk comedy show called Rab C Nesbitt. Bonus points for all my american friends if they understand what is being said

Whoa.  I thought because I could understand a pretty fair bit of Burnistoun I'd be okay with that.  Nope!

Speaking of Burnistoun...this basically sums up what I think of social media and why I don't have any.

I got most of that.  Consequence of having a friend while I was stationed over there who had a Glaswegian accent about as thick as Rab in that clip.  Haven't talked to her in over a decade though, so I'm a little rusty.

Considering how many accents come from England as a whole, it would not surprise me to learn that Scotland has noticeable variations in the accent as well.

Fun fact: The modern British accent we know today is actually relatively new. The current accent didn't develop until after the American Revolution. Until then the British accent was similar to what we consider an American(at least in the North East) accent today. The British actually changed accents, while we mostly retained the old accent.

Most of the British...the West Country accent is closer to ours.  It actually sounds a lot like what some people think may have been Shakespeare's true accent, too, but not identical.

But you want to hear a West Country accent?  David Prowse is actually a good example!

It's funny how pipe cleaners've become common arts and crafts material. From cleaning tobacco residue to making 3D artworks of beloved characters such as Mikey:

I never knew what kind of pipes they were intended to clean until now!  I only knew them as craft materials.

I KNEW THEY DID IT JUST TO PISS US OFF!!!!

Would that explain why an American Southern accent is so easy for Brits to mimic?

I was told a story at from my local Tinder Box how a woman came in once to get her husband some cigars for his birthday, saw the pipe cleaners and thought they sold craft supplies as well. She was terribly confused why they only came in white. <face palm>

I never knew what kind of pipes they were intended to clean until now!  I only knew them as craft materials.

I had the reverse problem!  When I was in elementary school, I knew what they were for (because my grandfather used them on his pipe) and whenever I saw them at school, I became very alarmed as to why kids my age would have packets of them.    Cheesy  I went home and told my mom that I thought the teacher wanted us to start smoking and gravely informed her that I would have to get an "F" on this project.
