I had a fun one the other day. It was pouring rain and all of the lights went out/all the computers went off. A customers walks over to me and asks "Did your power go out?" My response was to look at the now dark work area and say "I'm going to go out on a limb and say yes".

I am very pleased, Jev, to see you save an otherwise worthy weapon from an ignominious existence.
Update: I have picked up two more pink aisle blasters to save. Yes, I know they are crossbows, but I can save them and transform them into true works of art. First things to go are the crossbow arms. On a tangential note, it REALLY pisses me off that the NERF Rebelle series (the one designed with girls in mind) has basically jumped on the Hunger Games Hype Train and is heavily favoring bows and crossbows. You can't even find a regular blaster in the stores anymore. It's all bows and crossbows.

Not at those sizes... Well, maaaaaybe the bottom one, but the top one is a single handed weapon.

I had the same thought about a bowcaster. Regardless, I hope we'll get to see the finished products!

Question to some of you with martial arts experience. Is it normal to throw complete beginners(it was my first day, wouldn't even consider myself a white belt, I thought you had to earn that) into a class with more advanced students? No one bothering to make sure they know the very basics, just have them start somewhere in the middle? The art in question here is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu(don't know that that makes a difference).

I know it's a little intimidating at first being put in a class where people are more accustomed to being wrestled with and otherwise manipulated. When I started I just mentioned that this is my first day/week/month (insert your time comfort zone) and the opponent would adjust where necessary. And remember just tap out when you reach your limit. Keep going and you'll get used to it. You'll adapt faster if you have experience in other sports too. Good for you. Jiu Jitsu is very challenging and technical if you like that.

Not at all. We're just testing out the Amish method in an attempt to save money. In other thoughts... According the Google translate Inu Yasha means "dog female demon". I think that guy got a raw deal.

Oh, so that is normal? I'm actually supposed to be there for my second class, but elected not to go, because I was so convinced that was the "wrong" way to structure a class, I was quite put off. I was on the wrestling team in high school. It's been ten years, but being wrestled with and such is fine, I'm pretty used to it. I have to give the instructor credit, he made sure every one knew it was my first time, and that he expected them to help teach me, not just use me as a practice dummy(I still kinda felt like one though). Technical doesn't bother me. Nor does challenging(to a point). Although not showing up today might have dissolved my welcome, so perhaps I shouldn't go back.

I think not showing up today is fine. You were a little surprised by the class format. There was a lot to take in on the first class especially since it's been 10 years since your last time you were in that kind of environment. I'm glad the instructor let everyone know you were just starting out. It's a martial arts class so everyone will feel the the 'practice' dummy because that's what you are doing! Don't be discouraged. You're going through the normal transition period of starting out this kind of thing new. And, you are doing it alone. Not with buddy so that makes it a little more difficult since you don't know anyone. (I presume) Keep with it. Make some new friends. It's a lot of fun once you get over the initial hump really!
