Sewing is actually easy.

If you can pick your nose, burp, fart, and sneeze at the same time while keeping your eyes open...then you can sew.

Uh oh, what if you can't do any of those things, does that mean you can't sew? GAME OVER MAN< GAME OVER!!! LOL.  No I have some experience sew, sadly I passed home ec with flying colors, everything but the cooking as my family will undoubtable confirm.

Cooking is even easier than sewing...it is all about the process, preparation, and staying focused.

If you can build decent lego buildings and such then you can cook.

It is physically impossible to keep your eyes open when you sneeze.

Just sayin.  Cheesy

Oh I like a naked female force user to be sure...I will not be posting any links or pics to the same but yes I do fins those appealing on many levels.

I suspect the thread host was noting that an average forum member male, perhaps a bit out of shape, maybe not the pinnacle of what most would consider attractive...being naked would not be all that appreciated by (me for one, I vote no spank u) the forum as a whole.

I have an idea as to what kind of jedi outfit I would like to have for the series my friend and I are going to film, but I have no idea how to go about doing this. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Here is a pic of my idea.

I would like to from you experts what good materials are, and also how I should go about taking my idea from paper to real life. I have no idea where to start.

With multiple layers, as you have here, you're going to get warm.  Fabric traps heat.

So, I would look into fabrics that breathe.  Linen and cotton, mostly...

If you're asking someone to do your sewing, have them go with you when fabric shopping, so that they can tell you what will work - not just for the costume, but for them.  Some fabrics are awesome looking, but can be terrible to work with.  Your seamstress may already have a pattern that would work with your idea, as well.

Gloves and boots can be difficult to craft oneself - finding good ones to wear can take time.  When shopping for boots, I recommend Renaissance Faires - they generally have merchants in both categories, and will help you get fitted correctly as well as allowing you to see/try out the product before buying.  You CAN go cheaper with costume boots as some have - nothing against it.  But if you're spending a lot of time in said boots, good leather ones with GOOD soles will leave you a LOT less achy later.

i my self just grabbed some steampunk costuming boots that are synthetic

but i do really like the pattern, and for the most part the fit

i plan to take them to a couple of boot shops here in the city when they finally wear out, to tear them apart and use them for the pattern for a good set of leather ones custom made

Good points about the layers...it could get hot real quick...lighter fabrics lay better also...allowing some flow and those tell tale wrinkles and folds that add character and reduce the costume aspect, granting a bit of a clothing aspect.

The gloves and boots...there seems to be two schools of thought here...

1. get the highest grade you can afford...finds a quality maker and get it done right the first time

2. go with inexpensive pleather or plastic Halloween grade products which are cheap

I would offer a third...modify your existing or inexpensive locally secured materials...a simple black or brown (later having some black shoe polish added...this gives a depth of color) short work boot with an inexpensive length of upholstery material to build the leg/calf extension portion...a simple wrap and secure (sew, adhesive, velcro, etc.).

The same could be applied to gloves...find a cheap pair that fits your hand, the most difficult aspect of gloves...and then construct the flourish as above.

So while it does require some skill and effort...you can save hundreds...which can be used to buy another saber for me...I mean for yourself   Roll Eyes

When it comes to boots, don't scrimp.  Your feet are going to hate you if you do.  My suggestion is that you but a pair of leather work boots and some leather.  A few pop-rivets, a little sewing, and a lot of dyeing and you have a perfect pair of boots that fit and look great.

This idea is more simple, but have no idea how I would do the chest plating.

camping foam, latex paint, and thicker poster board backing to give it some rigidity
