I suppose there is a little story to it, but I only recall the basics off hand. Someplace or other there's actually a second thread about this, where I was checking interest in the idea. That would show a bit more of the story as well if you can scrounge it up in a search.
Basically, I do some drawing and sketching from time to time as a hobby sort of thing.

The idea for Stan here hit me after Wondercon, back in March of this year. I went to the con, largely for the reason that US had a booth and they are NEVER at cons in So Cal. I just couldn't pass it up. lol Welllll..... I found out quickly enough that the other semi-local forumites were mostly planning to be there as well. Shyguy, Kham, and Waxman I think was the other member. Waxman was there the day before I was, so I didn't meet up with him, but I spent something like half of the day paling around with Shy (which was a BLAST! his TOR Sith costume is EPIC! and he has some really cool friends), and we did find and hang out with Kham for a few minutes because there was no WAY I was going to Wondercon without chilling with Spidey.
Anyways, after the con, there was a lot of talk about our little meet up, and about how much all of us forum members wished we could do a real large scale forum meet up at a big con. Of course, most of us are fairly broke when cons roll around, and even if we aren't, we usually can't get half way across the country to get to one, stay there for several days, buy tickets, and afford food and con swag all together. Something or other reminded me of Flat Stanley, this little paper man that my old Bio Teacher's Niece had done as a class project years ago and sent around to everyone she knew, and everyone they knew. Then all those people took a couple pics with him, and sent him back. The class made a big map and taped all the photos together and put them on the wall at the end of the project to show where Flat Stanley had traveled. Remembering this, I thought 'Hey, we can't meet up... why don't we mail a paper Jedi around to all the members? We all post tons of pics of ourselves with our sabers anyways...' I did an interest thread and got LOADS of positive feedback on the idea, so I dug around until my colored pencils were reunited, found my sketch pad, some scissors and tape, and a week or two later, Saberforum Stanley was completed. Now he travels the globe in search of formidable sparring partners, wearing darkly colored Jedi Robes, carrying two sabers, and proudly donning his Nova Squadron Flight Helmet wherever he travels in the galaxy.

He's even been to a Con! That totally blows my mind. I have to wonder if one day we'll get some new forum member tripping over this thread and commenting, 'I think I saw that guy back at such and such convention....' lol
