Said it afore, and I'll say it again. If everyone (and I mean everyone) had a gun, knew how to use it, and could carry it.... crime rates would fall (after the likely initial slaughter cause by idiots trying to commit crimes not realizing everyone has guns). I maintain that criminals are every bit as afraid of being shot as law abiding citizens are, with a few exceptions of course, but still. You aren't as likely to pull a gun and say give me your money to a guy who has a 45 on his hip or a winchester on his back compared to someone who, well, at most has a 2" pocket knife.

The only problem with that is, there's lots of people out there who DON'T know how to use a gun, and that includes many of the people who I'm sure carry. And knowing how to use it is not enough. I'm sure there's lots of people who KNOW how to use a gun, but you probably wouldn't want them to have one, judging by their lack of skill with it, they're probably more likely to A)Hurt themselves, or B)Hurt someone else on accident.

I know I'm more likely to do those things, which is why I only want a few antique guns for their collect ability and maybe some target practice. I have no intention to walk down the street with a my WW2 Luger strapped to my belt.

I should have expanded on my gun toting rant. lol Allow me to clarify, I DO believe that before everyone gets one and is allowed to carry it, it should be confirmed that they do not have a record of serious criminal offenses (IE a parking ticket is fine, robbing a bank or committing a savage beating is not), must prove their mental stability, and must pass a test / training course that certifies their knowledge of how to properly clean, care for, load, unload, aim, fire, and all around use basic fire arms. I say basic because nobody should walk down the street with a 50 Cal or a Sterling L2 Submachine gun. lol

Here's my bit on the issue... We all must take a test issued by the DMV to obtain our driver's license correct? Yet how many idiots almost kill us from there motorized death machine on a daily basis? Some states more than others, but frankly I consider motor vehicles to be more deadly than the typical firearm.

The problem is as the great Ron White said, "You can't fix stupid." We haven't been able to stop dumb people from driving like idiots, and we won't stop stupid people from doing stupid things with firearms. It isn't a matter of keeping stupid people from getting firearms, it's about making sure we're able to protect ourselves from psychos with firearms. Granted I'm fairly confident in my ability to disarm someone without using a gun... It isn't ideal, and the odds are is I'll be shot. If I'm armed, then I have now leveled the playing field, it is no longer advantageous to be a bad guy. It's about giving power to the law abiding citizen.

We now live in a society that views firearms as evil, and dangerous... but that Prius that nearly took out my motorcycle is perfectly safe. Guns aren't meant for your protection against me... the rights are given to us for our protection of our rights.

But shouldn't we t least try? I firmly believe that we should. Like you said, it won't keep ALL idiots from getting firearms, but even if it keeps 5% of those who shouldn't be trusted(idiots, criminals, and the mentally ill). Criminals will find a way to get one illegally even if you stop them from doing it legally(all though we still should, it would at least make it harder for them).

And am I the only one who thinks that guy in Colorado shouldn't have been able to order combat grade weapons over the internet? I mean, seriously you should have to actually GO TO A PHYSICAL BRICK AND MORTAR STORE TO BUY A GUN. That should be a law.

The silly thing is that people believe owning firearms will somehow protect them from the government if they ever decided to completely turn on us. Face it, America is full of average citizens who know nothing about war; firearms or not, we'd get demolished easily. So why even bother? Though of course it wouldn't matter either way since people can still get guns.

Also, why the name-dropping? The Prius is an awesome car. Any idiot with a car could take out your motorcycle.

America is not only full of idiots who know nothing about guns but its also full of idiots who know  nothing about the laws and the government! Guns will only continue to take the blame for everyone else's stupidity. Guns will always be the scapegoat. Instead of educating  themselves about guns, citizens (not the government) will simply try to take our guns away! If the 2nd amendment ever gets repealed its the own fault of the simple minded citizens who are terrified of guns. Not Obama and not the rest of the government.

And an army of guys with inferior equipment and training fought for years and beat the best army and navy in the WORLD. Average citizens are the most powerful people on earth. Know why? Because there's Billions of us, and if you ever manage to get us all moving in one direction, we're pretty darn hard to stop.

I agree with this 100%

However, we're treading a little close to the "political debate" threshold, so let's just get back to talking about guns themselves... and not gun control.

My dad finally replaced his beloved Browning Gold shotgun that got stolen when their house got robbed.  The new one is camo, and is very nice looking!
