Ok we all should be caught up to episode 8 of season 2. Two words: Avatar Wan!!!! Holy Sith was this story jaw dropping!!! We finally got to see the origin of the Avatar, not to mention the mighty LionTurtles. 2 episodes were all it took to tell his story, 2 episodes well spent. I honestly didn't know where the plot was taking us, and I'm sure the rest of you were in the same airship with me. Season 1 we knew the ending already, Korra fights Amon. Simple.

Also did anyone else honestly see Verrick being a villain? I did.

For a current series that the episode is only a week old...put a spoiler alert on your first line...many of our members are catching up and are not up to our current watching status   Undecided

And the second of the two just came out... Shocked

It was a great episode as I noted...favorite bit yet!

seven pages and not one mention of Pandora or the Na'vi?  What kind of Avatar threat is this?

The good kind.

I think last weeks may have been my favorite Korra episodes so far, out of the whole series.  We need a series about Wan, not some angsty teen who think she knows better than everybody else.  I do like the series a lot, I just think Aang was a better Avatar, plus he wasn't a jerk to almost everybody.

Aang was also a little boy.

Kora is a young woman.

Just about all of us went through the rebellious years and we were not the Avatar on top of that lol.  And apparently Aang was a bit neglectful of his non-air bending kids...so he came into his jerk phase later  Smiley

The world of the 1st Avatar is quite exciting for sure...love me some Spirited Away type spirit realm activity!

Adding a whole season to fill in the gaps between the last two episodes of the 1st would be most welcome...and for the record the 1st was a bit of a hippie thief, before he found himself...and that we will not tolerate!

lol

This is true, but Aang also didn't want to be the Avatar where Korra always did, which is where I think some of the personality differences come into play.  Aang had to come to grips with being the Avatar and learn to accept it so he wasn't about flaunting his power like Korra sometimes seems to be.  Basically, I just liked Aang as the Avatar better.

Understandable, they are polar opposites...Aang a pacifist and Kora an activist  Cheesy

I guess that's the difference between monks and eskimos.  Grin

I'm thinking (hoping) now, after what happened last week, maybe Korra will get her act together and be less angsty teen and more Avatar.

I have been giving thought to the 1st Avatar world setting...I am going avoid specifics that are plot related.

The setting presents a world with the material and spirit realms existing within the same plane...the barriers having been broken...the spirits take the forms seen in spirited away, living in areas called the spirit wilds...(which we like very much thank you)...the spirits are not understood by humans and humans do not differentiate between spirits and animals.

There was a line that I found interesting within the 1st avatar story..."Why not go live in one of the other lion turtle cities?"

Each lion turtle is affiliated with one element...so that would be 5...fire, earth, air, water, and chi...the last being an energy bender, giving and taking away bending ability and one would assume the finer points such as realignment, purge poisons, healing, etc.

But the mention of more than 5 is interesting...I could see another, spirit bender...the ability to center or calm spirits, thus purging the darkness as we have seen Korra and Unalaq use, which is explained as highly advanced and specialized healing...I suspect each primary bending type could use this spirit aspect if the bender was a master of exceptional ability and insight...but a spirit bender, in theory could use it at the baseline level...with a material use like ecoplasm perhaps?  A blend of air and water.

So with that in mind, 6...fire, earth, air, water, chi, and spirit.

We saw some specialty bending...lightning generate/redirect and combustion(fire) (I know this gets the sith forumites all a quiver lol), metal and seismic sense(earth), blood and healing(water)...Air is a curious one, without a strong baseline, being they were nearly wiped out, there is no specialty noted...though the last was by an avatar so unsure if it was a combo...but for this thought we will let it ride.

There was a lava bender, though again was only an avatar.

So if we see these as combined in the Aang setting then perhaps they were primal in the Wan setting...and thus...

fire, earth, air, water, chi, spirit, lightning, metal, blood, lava...quickly with only a few moments of thought and we have 10

So with that thought in mind, the lion turtles during Wan's time, there could have been more types than the common 4 and the rare 5th.

Good times.

I guess we should wait another week or so before discussing in detail the world of avatar Wan and Raava.

PS
If there are any Avatar fans who are not caught up...you should do so!

Eskimo is an interesting word...most times in our PC world Inuit is the preferred word.  There is a common thought that the Southern tribes sold their heritage to the whites and thus Eskimo has a grey meaning.  Within the Algonquian, one of the largest collective North American Indian groups, eskimo has a black meaning...referring to the eating of raw meat, which goes hand in hand with savage and even cannibal...which in turn ties into the myths of the wendigo and the bloody hag...I lived in Northern Alaska and the native peoples are generally gentle and reserved, so they would rarely object even if it bothered them...and I have heard them say Eskimo without issue or ill intent...so I just file it under the category that I know and am considerate when the situation arises lol.

So, I've been working out a RPG set in the world of Avatar, called Avatar: The Lost Empire. Here's the main story, see what you think:

It's several years past the time of Legend of Korra and the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation have started a devastating war with each other, and the Avatar is missing... again. The game starts out in Republic City, where your protagonist (who starts the game as a bender) is on a mission related to something related to their initial starting class (earth, air, fire, water), when the Fire Nation bombs the place. The PC is rescued by Princess Azaran of the Fire Nation, who is secretly trying to find the missing Avatar and stop the war.

Your quest for the missing Avatar takes you far beyond known lands and to a completely unknown empire of spiritbenders (hence the title) who secretly controlled the whole war from behind the scenes and who can block someone's bending, subtly mind control people, and even kill with a thought. You find the Avatar dead at the hands of the Spirit Empire, you learn that the PC is the next Avatar, and you learn how to defeat the spirit benders once and for all and restore peace to the rest of the world.

What do you guys think?
