Title: Your favorite location in the Star Wars universe?
Post by: Master Rel on May 14, 2013, 03:27:37 PM
Let us say you could be transported to any time or place in the Star Wars universe, once...one way ticket.

Where/when would it be and why?

The why could be nearly anything of course, just include the membership on your thoughts  :)

Korriban, 7,000 years B.B.Y. As a Jedi Outcast.

Currently, Alderaan. It was freaking gorgeous. Why Vader. Why did you have to go and blow it up. You could have just take it and used it as a personal taiga resort or something. The mountains, the plains. The scenery. It was beautiful.

Alderaan long before the big bada boom of course :)

Endor would be fun.

And my first thought was Dantooine

Tatooine.

Coruscant.   I'd like the city for a little while, and when I get tired of it it'd be super easy to buy/sell/trade my way onto a ship headed for anywhere else.

EDIT: forgot the when.  Probably either during The Old Republic or sometime around The New Jedi Order.  I like the spaceships.  ;D

I agree. I live in a big city (obviously) and like the hustle and bustle but get tired of it at times. I would like to live on Coruscant but have a vacation home on Endor (don't feed the Ewoks or they will never go away!!)

Remember you are transported there as you are lol.

I looked to places with lots of green and life...not so much a super swamp though.

Green, trees, and interesting exploration potential.

Would cross my fingers that once there I might be able to expand my force powers beyond opening sliding doors at businesses and large stores  ;)

Naboo. The scenery, the architecture, the culture..... aaaahh! ;D

I'd have to put up with Gungans, but that would be a small price.

Just pop me on board the Millennium Falcon sometime after DS#2 is toast and I'd be cool.

Nar Shadaa so I can use my dark side talents to become an infamous Force-wielding bounty hunter! Then to Ossus to spend my waning days finding Enlightenment so I may die peacefully and become one with the Force.

I'm on board with Rogue here! Though I really don't mind Gungans...they remind me of hounds.

Anyway, I'd say Naboo about 80-90 years before the blockade. I'd rather live in peace than war.

Would your choice alter if you kept to the theme...you, a normal mundane human type person, is whisked away to the location (I had intended the location to actually be a place and not a thing such as a ship, but it is just a silly exercise in fun anyway lol).

You arrive, as yourself in all the human glory that you look at each morning in the mirror.

So no force powers, no Jedi or sith potential, just mundane human.  What ever skills, experiences, potential that you have at this moment is what you have where ever you chose to go  :)

Would you still choose the same location?

I would.

Naboo would be a great choice...especially if I had the option to visit the underwater cities  :)

So would I. Tatooine is a fine place to start a career of smuggling or bounty hunting.

As much as I would like to choose one place and one place only, I think my place would really be on the bridge of my own ship. I would see all of the worlds, and maybe stay for a while on each.

As much as I would like to choose one place and one place only, I think my place would really be on the bridge of my own ship. I would see all of the worlds, and maybe stay for a while on each.

Playing devil's advocate...and just working the initial thought of the game...I fully appreciate the ideal of the ship traveling from place to place, but if "you" were transported to the Star Wars universe what would you have to offer to own a ship, manage a ship, fly a ship, etc.?

And this is not shooting down a dream or a thought, the idea of traveling all over and seeing it all is one we would all be on board with...but it is a cheat for the game so I gotta ask lol.

I am a extreme example of a tech with engineering, extensive logistic/personnel/and related experience, as well as the 21yrs of military...and I am not sure if any of my skills would mean anything in that universe...I am sure some would convert over.

If I were in the "on a ship traveling everywhere" theme I would think that I may be able to sign on as a tech but I do not have a bucket of diamonds or a case of gold or anything else we consider valuable to carry over and buy my own ship.

I guess we could consider the potential of stealing a ship...but this would require help, could you trust this help to not turn on you and leave you on some random dock or out the air lock?

Again, not picking on your dream, it is a good one  :)

If the question were "would you rather be in this universe on Earth or in that universe on
insert name here
", we would most likely would all choose to go.

But the idea is to name the place, as in a location on a moon/planet/asteroid field/etc. and not a ship, that appeals to you and that you would want to live...as a mundane regular human that you are at this moment in that exotic location.

;D

PS
Owning a ship and scooting about the Star Wars universe would be sweet though.

I would choose, hmm, this is a hard one. umm, well, I always thought that kashyyyk was pretty cool. but probably Alderaan, just before the invasion of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

For starters, you can always hitch-hike on someone else's ship and see many planets this way until you make it big.

well lets see, I am a machinist, a decent sharp shooter, and an auto mechanic. None of which would help me at all in the Star Wars universe (not that those skills have done me any good here on earth), I figure that once you are there you need to survive, which means Credits and a job. I would love Endor or Kashyk (I know I spelled it wrong) but with the lack of employment opportunities in any of my fields of expertise in those location I would not be well suited to those environments. on a ship however there is need for a machinery repairman, which is a machinist who makes ship parts, But obviously that doesn't "fly" here. so I would probably settle near one of the major shipyards, http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Fondor_Shipyards, (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Fondor_Shipyards,) so on the planet of Fondor.

Sure they would.  I'm all of those things in one capacity or another as well, and I'm 100% sure I could do something big in the Star Wars Universe.  Star Wars still has to make metal stuff, so being a machinist is good.  There's plenty of guns and militaries/militias around, so sharpshooter is in demand, and they have groundcars, so being an auto mechanic is useful.

Plus, having all these means I can learn all the other necessary stuff.  In short, I'm more than capable of thriving in Star Wars.  Also, consider that the average light freighter costs somewhere around 120-180,000 credits.  That's less than a Ferrari here on Earth (assuming a 1:1 exchange rate), and I fully intend to own a Ferrari.  So I don't think I'd have any problem buying a ship at some point either.

I will amend my original thought to agree with Frizzen on one point though: living near a shipyard.  I'd choose Corellia though, to be nearest to Corellian Engineering Corporation.

I wonder if employees get a discount on the YT series?....

Starting at a shipyard makes a great deal of sense!  And a machinist would convert nicely to some related trade I am confident.  From there it is matter of making contacts and then off the yard as a crew member ;)

How about another line of thought...we can open a one way gate to a single location in the star wars universe, we can go through once, and then we are on our own as we are in that location.

So a forumite offers up a location and you give the "hell yeah" or "nah I will wait for the next option"...then when the location gets stale (the thread gets quiet, another location is noted and we start again)  :D

I will start it off...

Dantooine, circa KoTOR

Taris, prior to Darth Malak's BDZ. All the greatness of Coruscant, but without the galactic political B.S. and with fewer problems

Zeltros.... because it's frakking ZELTROS (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Zeltros), man!

I'm going in. Coruscant underlevels are also a nice place to start a smuggling or bounty hunting career.

And if it fails, Coruscant is a nice place to hitch a ride to another planet. For example, Mandalore, the Planet of Equal Opportunity Badassery.

Until I read the hyperlink for the image, I had no honest idea where that was.  Knowing it's Old Republic Alderaan (redundant much?) makes it a bittersweet choice for me.  If I go, it's a beautiful place, but I'd always know it was doomed, which would suck.  Not sure on this one.

Nar Shaddaa was the largest moon of Nal Hutta. More commonly known as the Vertical City, the Smuggler's Moon and Little Coruscant, Nar Shaddaa was similar to Coruscant in that its surface was entirely overgrown with city sprawl for millennia. But unlike Coruscant—which was only relatively rundown and dangerous on the lower and under levels of the world city—Nar Shaddaa was filthy, polluted, and infested with crime everywhere.

You know, I'm going to add another planet to my list of favorite locations in Star Wars. Hoth.

Yes, I know it's a frozen wasteland of death and snow, but I want to reiterate this with how they portray it in SWTOR. It's freakin' gorgeous. It's just so....beautiful. There's something about that icey, vaste wasteland that makes it stand out. Also the same goes for Tatooine, and it's arid endless deserts.

Yes, I know it's a frozen wasteland of death and snow, but I want to reiterate this with how they portray it in SWTOR. It's freakin' gorgeous. It's just so....beautiful. There's something about that icey, vaste wasteland that makes it stand out.

Ya know, I hate cold weather but I have to agree.  They did a great job in SWTOR making Hoth not suck.  It's actually one of my favorite planets in game.   Tatooine, not so much though.

Nar Shadda might be pretty sweety its like Vegas.....yah know when the Mob still ran it. LOL

Who says they don't?

A buddy of mine sent me this wonderful little encounter a friend of his had in Vegas...

Quote
A couple I know moved to Las Vegas several years ago, and the husband had his own construction company--it was a small operation, basically him and a couple of guys, but he was the boss. On the very first job he got, he showed up on the first day and within an hour was approached by two well-dressed gentlemen who began asking questions about who he was and general information about his company. Initially he thought they worked for the city, but after about 20 minutes of conversation they told him, "You need to come with us." They took him to one of the well-known hotel/casinos (he didn't say which one, I didn't ask) and escorted him to an office on one of the top floors where he had a meeting with a mid-level "boss" who made it very clear that he had to get "permission" to start and operate a business in Las Vegas. When the "boss" found out how small his operation was he eased off, but told him certain contracts would never be awarded to his company, and that he would occasionally be instructed to turn down certain other jobs. He said they were very professional and treated him well, but that there were a couple of moments when he seriously thought they were going to throw him out of the window. He also said that once they determined he knew his business and saw the quality of his work that they actually sent some work his way--jobs he would not have gotten otherwise--and that their "cut" on those jobs was far less than he imagined it would be. All things considered, he said they were actually very easy to work with as long as you followed their rules (i.e., don't take money out of our pockets or cause us any problems) and actually helped him expand his business...to a point.

You were saying?
