Title: New Saber: Ultrasabers Malice
Post by: Deep on July 02, 2012, 12:18:40 AM
***The claw blades have DULL edges they are NOT SHARP.***

Ultrasabers is proud to present The Malice.  Another one of the most coveted saber designs has finally come to the Ultrasabers line up.  Just take a look at those pics and take a look at the video, this saber is begging you to wield it!

This saber is a BEAST!!!  If you are faint of heart or don't want your saber to be noticed, steer clear of the Malice.  This saber will stand out for all the right reasons!

The emitter is one of a kind.  The claw blades come in two sizes small and large.  The claw blades themselves are anodized black and the edges are silver to give it a pronounced and menacing look (the claw blades are NOT sharp).  The button on the emitter can come in any of our 6 available button colors.

The Malice can come equipped with our normal guarded switch or an AV switch with a bezel or you can get your AV switch mounted in an activation box.  With all these options you can really make this saber your own.

The Malice's pommel comes in three different versions.  The Round version, the Square version, and the Square Black & Silver version.  All 3 look great on this hilt, you can't go wrong with any of them.  The Round Pommel has a more traditional look while the Square pommels are newer to Ultrasabers and give the saber a very distinct look.

The entire hilt is just gorgeous.  And it is a BLAST to wield and it will catch everyone's attention in your hands, on your covertec clip, or on your saber stand.  This is one saber that no one will miss.

Do you have what it takes to tame the Malice?

Excellent. I saw the video get uploaded an hour ago. Already been on the site and specced one out. Too bad I'm saving right now!

Excellent work team.

"Pain, suffering, death I feel. Something terrible has happened. My wallet is in pain. Terrible pain."

When I saw this I immediately knew that it was one that I would have to possess. Being a fan of Star Wars: The Old Republic, I must represent!

Unfortunately, like so many others, I'll have to wait. I have court papers to file this week.

Also saw this beast. Caught my interests. I'm going for one in August. I'm officially a Sith. Its going to be with short claws, Violet Amethyst Ultra Edge Heavy Grade blade, round pommel, Obsidian with red av switch and silver box, red acc. button, and li-ions. I just can't wait. Nice work once again.

Not something I would want to fight If I was a jedi
Would go for it but already got my Heavy hitting Raven and a Monarch is top priority now

Do wonder if the Claws are for sell separate?...

This bad boy seems to be in the neighborhood of the Raven, size-wise.  It looks pretty sweet!

First solidly Sith saber I've seen that I'd like to own. This beast just looks sick. It's almost otherworldly as a saber, just because there's nothing else out there that looks like the hilt itself is literally designed to do nasty carnage. True, the Warglaive and Raven are pointy, but this is just nasty. Sinister. And yet it's elegant. I can so picture a duel between this and a Bellicose. And I definitely wanna grab a round pommel and a 40" blade.

Now thats is a crazy looking saber.  :o Not really a fan of the design itself though and I am not tempted to buy one due to its size, but the complex pommels are what really catches my eye.

Just look at that detail. The pommel itself is a work of art!  8)

Yup , this will be my next saber! It's a must. In thinking Pyrestone led with Fire Orange FoC , obsidian , short claws, orange AV Swich on silver activation box . 40"blade And end it with the round pommel. Ultra Sabers... As always you are AwEsOmE!

Yeah, I'm not gonna be rushing to get one of these, like Boss said, too big and bulky for my tastes. That being said, I am kinda tempted to get one eventually, to display on my bookshelf. That would be sick.

I know that this is going to be a huge hit with KOTOR and Sith fans everywhere.  I think that it could also go as a Jedi saber by removing the claws.  Also, with all the heat in my area, it could certainly double as a fan.   I cannot wait to see the first reviews posted as this will sell very fast.

Props to offering so many options as well.  I like the different color and activation switch styles.

Likewise Big Boss, Though I am also curious to see how the saber would look with a different emitter since its interchangeable. IE using the Dark War glaive emitter for example

Of course, aircraft aluminum, light and sturdy.

It weights 2.2lbs with the small claws and 2.6 lbs with the large claws.  Very light given all the features of the saber.

Very impressive, but not for me. If you release a version without the axes on it, I would consider. But now, it looks to unbalanced, and not easy to wield, plus imagine getting hit in the hand by one of those axe claws...ouch. But overall a nice take on a sinister saber. Once again, you impress me majorly.

I don't see a covertec clip. I know we can buy one, and request them to attach it, but I would expect it to have it normally. Unless I am mistaken and it does, but I didn't see a covertec knob.

I think he had been saving for a Bellicose for some time and was going to pull the trigger on it when this video was released today.  He then decided that this was the saber that had his stamp of approval and decided to switch targets.  I also wish that I could purchase sabers at the drop of a hat.  It took me quite a bit of financial finagling just to get the parts to upgrade my Overlord to sound.

Hehe, pretty much this. I use every little way I can to save up for a saber, I even put all my other hobbies on a complete freeze, and the result is roughly a saber per month. This month I planned on the Bellicose, fearing it might go out of stock soon(since the RGB version is out already), but I just fell in love with the Malice so hard I changed my plans on the spot.

I ALMOST bought it. I have the cash, but I really need to get these court papers filed. Unfortunately the filing fees cost more than the saber fully loaded.

A little off topic but I can honestly say that you are going to be so glad that you did get those papers filed.  I actually framed mine after my divorce.

I'm loving the saber, but I have some concerns- first, the video says that we can get an AV switch with a bezel, instead of the activation box. But I don't see this option listed:(

Secondly, I am not sure where I would take this one- due to the way the claws look, I would be nervous about taking it out in public- all it takes is one cop thinking I've  got real blades on that thing, and my night's over. I remember getting growled at for carrying a foam-padded practice sword as part of a costume one halloween, and the cop didn't back down when I showed him that it was nothing but foam with a wooden core the diameter of my thumb. "People might think it's real!"  Somehow I suspect that even blunt claws made to look like knife or axe blades wouldn't go over well either.

Likewise, I am not sure if security at my local con would allow me to carry or wear it- would they treat it like another garden variety lightsaber, or would they treat those claws the same way they treat blunt metal knives worn as part of a costume? The rules for even blunt metal blades are that they must be sheathed at all times, never taken out. Blunt blades with no sheath must be handed over to con security, who will give it to you for the duration of the costume contest, and collect it from you as soon as you're off the stage.

So I love the look of this one, it's completely bad-ass. But I'm not sure where I could use it- something that can only be enjoyed in my own yard, for fear of legal issues, or con security rules isn't going to be as useful to me as a saber I can carry pretty much anywhere.

I don't mean this to be a wet blanket, I've just been chewed out by the police for carrying something far less menacing than this before, and I'm still kind of leery.
Although that said, I could see myself getting one of these and having a machinist or metalworker make me some smaller claws of a different style to swap out- I suspect a pair of phoenix's wings would look absolutely stunning, and be a little less likely to get me into trouble.

The AV switch comes with a bezel if you just order an AV switch without an activation box.

Looked at this Beast and said yep, sith all the way!!! :-*

As stated before; I'm so getting one.

This sucker's getting ordered by the end of the day today.

Blade LED Color:Blazing Red
Blade Option:36" Ultraedge Midgrade
Battery Configuration:Li-Ion Setup with BuckPuck
Button Color:Red
Sound:Yes, Obsidian USB Sound w/ Red Illuminated AV Switch with Silver Activation Box
Flash on Clash:Flash Green
Malice Claw Size:Small
Malice Pommel Type:Square
Quick Disconnect:Nope.
Tip::Round Tip
Include Retention Screw Wrench:Sure!
Include Blade Plug:Yes

The one thing I can't decide is if I want the 40" blade.  I see that 5" of blade is eaten up by the emitter, so I'd only have 31" from the emitter out.  I'd lose another 5" with the claws.  A 40" blade would help this, but it doesn't come in Ultraedge, which I love.

Anyone know how well Blazing Red looks without the Ultra-edge?

I personally prefer Midgrade with BR! It looks amazing! I will be getting this saber, might take a month to get the cash, but I will have one!! I'll have a hard time deciding on the led. Either Pyrestone with FO FoC , or BR with Silver FoC . As I am a SWTOR addict it will probably be BR .

Second this blade choice.  Midgrade looks great with BR!

Pyrestone would look amazing on this hilt too, although you have a point that the more traditional SWTOR look would be Blazing Red.  Heck, I think it would look cool in Guardian Blue!

The hilt is gorgeous. If there was a price break for leaving off the blades I think I'd get it. Can we get word from Emory or Alex if we can special request for the blades to be left off for some credit, or, failing that, replaced with Glaive or Raven claws?

Love each and everything about it except the blades.

We can leave the claw blades off the order (if you want us to ship a smaller package or something of that sort), but it won't change the price since it's all inclusive.

The Warglaive or Raven Claws can feasibly be mounted on these with some modification (it's definitely not plug and play, they are mounted completely differently), I've seen it done on Standard Issues, Liberators, Dominix, Aeon, etc.  But it's not currently a service that we offer to do here at Ultrasabers.

Also as a note, the claw blades on this hilt are much easier to remove than the claws on the Warglaive and Raven, since these are keyed into the emitter instead of using pins.

The blades look great.  Trust me, if you see or hold the saber in person, you'd feel the same way.

We won't ever be offering the saber without the claws.  But the claws are VERY, EXTREMELY easily removable.  None of the orders we've gotten in so far has made any request for shipping without the claws (most people have requested multiple sets of claws) and most all emails about it have been about multiple sets of claws.  Once these sabers are in hand, the claws grow on you.

I think the large claws look really cool, but I would honestly not try dueling with them or performing with them.  These are more for the WOW effect for show.  The small claws look good and are a good size for ALL the practical uses of an Ultrasaber (dueling, sparring, spinning, showing off, costuming, etc).

So how do I get this thing with an illuminated AV switch but no box? I checked the dropdown menu under switches, and all the illuminated switches have a box included, I don`t see a bezel option for the illuminated ones:(

I prefer the lower profile of a bezel, I`m just not seeing it listed.

If you are looking at a saber WITHOUT sound, those have to have an activation box because the latching switch is humongous.

Deep, I agree with you 100% about the hilt being more for show. If you were to cosplay as Darth Malgus or another character, this would be something you wore on your hip or carried around for photo opportunities...

That said, if you remove the claws, then duel on!

Deep, where can the covertech clip be mounted on this hilt?  Would it be in the middle of the grip or is mounting it more towards the pommel possible?

I swear I saw an image (of Malgus) where the saber was hanging "tip up", meaning the clip would have been opposite the red button between the blades.  I assume that's not possible, yes?

I swear I saw an image (of Malgus) where the saber was hanging "tip up", meaning the clip would have been opposite the red button between the blades.  I assume that's not possible, yes?

Covertec knobs don't come standard with this saber.  You can get them by following the instructions here: http://www.ultrasabers.com/help_answer.asp?ID=21#294 (http://www.ultrasabers.com/help_answer.asp?ID=21#294)

We can mount the covertec anywhere you request us to.  We can mount it right on the emitter if you wish if you are trying to go for an emitter up mounting look.

So instead of getting an Archon with a war glaive emitter I am going to have to have this.

Question for Deep - the one without sound has many colored AV switches, any chance the other colors will be available with sound down the line? I would love to have a yellow AV switch on this bad boy with sound.

Epic addition to an already awesome lineup :D
With this thing who needs a blade, use it as a Tomahawk XD

Deep.. Is it possible to order an archon v2 empty hilt, but with a Malice emitter (instead of the original neck and blade holder of the archon)? It would be really nice if you could somehow post a picture of what that looks like:)

Deep has stated that not all hilts are shown in the build your own saber section but most an be purchased empty. You'll just have to email [email protected] to get details. Then just order the Malice emitter and what electronics you want and you'll be all set. Otherwise you'll need to order the Archon V2 and a separate Malice emitter.
How is it going Do-Clo?

If you want the Malice (or any of our sabers that aren't in the the DIY section) as an empty hilt, just shoot us an email at [email protected]

We need to update our Build Your Own Lightsabers section, it's missing a lot of items.  We've just been so busy actually building sabers  :)

We currently have the emitter and the pommels listed.  But we've gotten a lot of requests for extra claws, so I will get those listed soon as well.  In the meantime, shoot me an email and I can sale the claws separately as well.

I have made no secret that I am planning to do the costume of the character who wields this bad boy.  I think that I might be getting this as my first Obsidian saber.

I actually like the emitter and blades, but i'm not as excited about the saber as a whole.  Weird right?  I plan on getting those parts for customization though.  I love the "It's an axe!  No, wait it's a LIGHTSABER?!" effect of seeing it the first time.

Seriously thinking about getting the longer blade too.  My new dream is that US will one day have a ridiculously long 48" blade (though with the blade going 5" into the hilt with this emitter, i guess i'd need at least a 52" blade) so i can make a lightsaber nodachi!  Then i could be the not-quite-jedi version of Kikuchiyo (the crazy guy from Seven Samurai played by Mifune Toshiro).  And with freaking axe blades, it'd be utter INSANITY!  MWAHAHAHAHAHA!  I think i broke my own brain.  Sorry, short on sleep.  Going now.

I'm sure you could special order a blade that long! Try shooting an email to [email protected].

With my new job hopefully it will only be a few more weeks before I am able to get this bad boy I'm thinking Large claws with the red button and red blade, silver activation box and the square emitter to top it off let's not forget the USB obsidian soundboard and I'm thinking of going with the 40" blade just to give me extra room even though I won't be duelling with it that much.

I think that the small blades work just as well.  IMO the large blades just seem to be over kill on this saber, but I do like the square pommel.  On mine I went with the round as this look more like the one from the trailers. I am telling you once you get this saber it will be love at first handling :)  They really out did themselves on this one by far.  I had been thinking about this one since it came out and once I got to hold it I just HAD to have it :)    As Emory stated "It is a BEAST"

I am going with the large claws because they are most accurate to Malgus's saber and the square pommel is also the type of pommel Malgus uses and I want to try and get my setup as close to Malgus's saber as I possibly can. Yeah it will be a fantastic piece to my collection.

Actually, there's some divergence on the design. Some shots show it with the square pommel, others with a round one. And trust me, the small claws are PLENTY big, and from the looks of the saber I think they're more accurate actually.

The small claws are more accurate on there size but where the white part on the claws are with the small claws it is to small where on the large claws they are the right size. I like the square pommel anyway looks more sithlike IMO.

I absolutely love this saber.  Got mine with all the bells and whistles I could.  Flash on Clash, illuminated activator switch, only think I didn't get is the bullet tip (I think they look REAL dumb, but that's just me).

What a great beast of a saber, now I just need to finish my Malgus costume.

I have to admit, I'd really like to see this with a green blade, gold button and silver activation box and pommel.  Sort of a gray Jedi or highly aggressive Jedi perhaps.

I understand that the malice is designed to be sith... but I still wonder.....

I dont have mine in CG, but I DO have my Malice in AB (Arctic Blue), and I'm Light-sided.

I have one of these with the activation box and feel you are better off without it.  In my humble opinion, the box only gets in the way of your grip.  I think you made a wise choice.

How does the emitter look without the claws? Do the retention screw holes make for some cool accent light windows? :P Been curious about that one actually

Sweet, thanks for the heads up.

I upgraded from the guarded button to a red illuminated black AV switch! :)

So can't wait for it to arrive!
